It's not so much that I'm obsessed...

In today’s society the controversy surrounding gay marriage is a large one. It ties into a person’s religion, personal beliefs, up bringing, social views and more. If one doesn’t address this topic carefully they may end up insulting the other person and may even end up hurting the point they were trying to make, by not seeming educated about what they were arguing for or against.
Those who are against gay marriage often argue that “…Homosexuals have done something wrong that should deny them the rights of marriage…” [Alex K. Rich]. Those who oppose them, who fight for gay marriage, believe the opposite is true, that “…they (Homosexuals) have done nothing wrong, and shouldn’t be denied any rights, including those of marriage, based on their sexual orientation…” [Alex. K. Rich].
Those who oppose gay marriage often bring their religion into the ring even though marriage is legalization by the state and America preaches the separation of church and state, saying that their holy scripture specifically bans gays, or that the rules of their god do not approve of the relationship between two of the same sex. If someone argues that it goes against their religion, whether the homosexual is or is not part of the same religion, aren’t they making a point against their ‘God’ or ‘Higher Power’? Wouldn’t it be their ‘Gods’ decision to have homosexuals on this Earth? The following is not meant to offend anyone, nor is it meant to single out Christians, or to say that all Christians or only Christians oppose or support homosexuals; it is just being used as an example. Christianity for example, The Bible clearly states that homosexual relations are a sin. And yet, does it not also preach that we are all made in Gods image, that we are all Gods children. Doesn’t this mean that he has created us to be the way we are, homosexual or otherwise?
Marriage is a legalization of the state, a way of proving that the two involved are in fact committed to each other. It is a way of socially showing that the partners are together, and can often bring closeness that living together may not be able to bring to the couple. “The debate surrounding same-sex marriage incorporates personal issues, such as gay couples' ability to adequately raise children, contribute positively to society, or maintain meaningful, loving relationships….” [Alex K. Rich.] We are giving these rights to heterosexual couples, and yet we are denying them from homosexual couples. We do not make a heterosexual couple prove that they are good family material, nor do we make them prove they’re in a lasting relationship before legalizing their relationship. Why are we trying to make a homosexual couple prove this when we don’t make a heterosexual couple prove the same thing?
When arguing for the opposing side, that gays should not be able to marry, some end up making points that go against themselves, by proving that the heterosexual marriage standards that they hold so high are not actually such a great thing at all. “Homosexuals claim they only want equality under the law, and to have their relationships treated the same as those of heterosexual couples. … Many heterosexuals never marry. Others see their marriages dissolve and never take another trip to the altar. Whether by choice or through circumstances out of their control, they never find the right person. Asked if they would prefer not to marry, most would undoubtedly say yes. Marriage can be considered a right; but more specifically, it's a privilege to be enjoyed by those with the responsibility to be able to work through the tough times inevitable in any long-term relationship.” [Brian Wilson] By stating that, he’s just helped the opposing side. If we are going to claim that marriage is only a right, and should be proven, then why is it that for heterosexual couples the only needed proof of the couples love for each other is usually a name and drivers license to prove their age? If we are going to deny the right of marriage to homosexuals, then do the same for heterosexual couples, as their really is no difference between the two.
Homosexual couples are not even being given a chance in many cases to prove themselves, and this is defined as discrimination. Isn’t America supposed to be all about equality? We’ve got laws that state that you can’t discriminate against someone because of their race, ethnicity, or sex, and yet people are trying to pass a law that is pure discrimination towards sexuality. America is supposed to be a tolerating country, and yet we clearly aren’t.

I need an ending to it. NAO.

As it is that I'm in love.
