Meeting a Holocaust Survivor... And my Birthday!
... You're probably wondering about the title.

Yesterday at school, a survivor by the name of Al Weiner came to speak to us about his experiences in the Holocaust. And darnit, he's so amazing and sweet! :O Even at the age of 82, he's still relatively healthy. But... he still has these flashbacks and nightmares about what happened to his family... and himself. That saddens me. How can humanity be so cruel to it's own brethren? And all in the name of becoming a better "human race". It's all so hard to understand. Even he doesn't understand.

After he spoke, practically all of us went up to him to talk (or in alot of cases hug) him. It was amazing to see the amount of people that cared SO much! The crowd looked like a mob ring in my opinion, but this mob ring was all about hugs. xD

So, while some friends and me waited for our turns, I bought his book, "From a Name to a Number". I'm only in the beginning, but it's downright tragic. He lived in Poland before he was deported (seperated from his stepmother and little bro). He was only 15 at the time, basically the age I'll be tomorrow (more on that later).

Anyways, what I found strange is that my teachers kept on coming up to me, and speaking to me about stuff. o_o; That's unusual. Maybe they thought I was going to break down and cry or something, like what happened when the Japanese Garden trip ws canceled. I was so hopeful that things would turn out alright, but my optimism made me fall down hard.

... Back on topic. Once the crowd was thinning out, I made my move. I was nervous and shy as usual, but I hugged him. biggrin He smelled dusty, but other than that, the hug was very nice. During the hug, I said, "The millionth hug". He laughed at that. <333

But I wasn't over with him yet. Once everyone else except my friends and me were alone with him, I finally asked him my question.

Why is the sky blue?

He didn't hear me correctly the first time. His hearing's no good. So, my English Teacher (who is a close friend of his) told him. Then, he told me that I should ask the Almighty that. That was a nice response, I thought. Then he went on from there.

"But there's alot of things that I don't really know the answer to." That's the basic gist. The rest, I'm keeping close. >D

MY BIRTHDAY'S TOMORROW, AND THE PRESCHOOLERS ARE GRADUATING TOO. <_< >_> *poof*
