“Oh, that was pitiful. Why didn’t you just call for help, you stubborn thing.”

“No maid service here,” I told him, “Even if you’re sick. Meals get brought, the rest you handle yourself… or go without.”

“How harsh.”

“Nah, mum’s just not the nurse you back to health kind.”
“You wanted a shower don’t you?”

“Not if you’re planning to give me one. No offense but I’m uncomfortable in the same room as naked guys… and certainly in the same shower cubical.”

“I never dreamed you were so modest.”

“When I’m in my right mind I am… still, I don’t want to disrupt your shaving.”

“Very well, this time I will grant you privacy.”

“Thanks,” I said wryly.

He snapped his fingers and a lady in a maid’s uniform appeared. He read the raised eye-brow and ‘what the?!’ in my expression and laughed. “It seems you entered a competition sometime during your nightly wanderings that has won your mother Maid Service for a year,” he smirked.

“Very neat… but make it once a week only. I don’t want too many of your people around my family. The only reason I’m even willing to allow weekly visits is that I know mum could use the help!”

He gripped my chin and tilted it up as if he was about to kiss me. “Are you seriously trying to give ME orders?!” His grip was uncomfortably tight but I wasn’t daunted.

“When it comes to keeping my family safe and out of the targeting sights of you people, you’d better believe it! I’ll do it again too!”

He stared hard at me for a minute and then burst into laughter. “Your loyalty, pride, integrity and strength are a credit to you and your family. I respect that and so I will leave your family to you. YOU however are mine and those qualities, once you have recovered, will serve me well.”

“Tch,” I said or something similar. He shook his head and handed me over to her.
