I just finished watching this anime at the beginning of this week.
This anime is a little hard to follow. If your not one for horror do NOT watch this.
The animation is kind of mediocre but I think that's what adds to the creepiness of it. I think it's based off of a PC ga,e since it's a doujin anime. HOWEVER there is no hentai in it. Very VERY mild fanservice which was a relief for me.
Since this was only the first season the ending kind of leaves you hanging.

Higurashi no naku koro ni literally translates to When cicadas cry

In this anime every three or four episodes the story changes.

The characters involved are Keiichi, Rena, Mion, Shion, Satoko and Rika.
They all live in the village of Hinamizawa and for some reason their lives always end up in tragedy. Some how, everyone of the characters die, and when they do they're automatically reborn into a new Hinamizawa. There are mysterious disappearances and they end up going unsolved. But bit by bit, they're all trying to reach a happy ending. They somehow remember tiny pieces of their past life in Hinamizawa and they try to reach a better future, but it ends up failing anyway.
The main character seems to switch every 3, 4 or 5 episodes so you need to keep up if you want the ending to make sense! biggrin
