The Joshua Foundation: Make Life an Experience!!
Stalked by Kangaroos!
The conservation work wasn't all that bad. Okay I lied. There wasn't much to do but the physical work was strenuous. The first day was easy, we simply drove out to watch a bushfire and then got into an argument with the team leaders because they never told us anything about the schedule or what we should expect. It was a complete waste of time, since it changed nothing. Over the next few days, we climbed two Australian mountains; Mt Barney and Mt Edward (points for originality! sweatdrop )
Mt Edward was my favourite, not only because the most obnoxious members of our group ran ahead and got lost for the entire day, but because we climbed to the top and arrived at a gorgeous waterfall! Only one of our group was brave enough to get in the water, but the rest of us were quite happy rock-hopping and having water fights.
Life in the chalets was enjoyable as well. On the other side of the golf course was a set of shops, including a chipper (English chips, people! Yay!). The only trouble came one night when my friends and I didn't get back from the shops until late, after the sun had gone down. It was getting darker and my two friends were really nervous, nothing I said would calm them down. Then the situation was made worse when we found ourselves surrounded by wild kangaroos! It was like something from an Alfred Hitchcock film; they just sat there staring at us. We made a break for it and didn't stop running until we got back to the chalet. Thankfully none of them followed us.
