Prologue
Keith woke from his dreaded slumber feeling a sense of certain doom flowing from his veins. Keith walked over to the mirror and examined himself for any death lingering on his flesh. But all he saw was his short chestnut hair and deep brown eyes looking back at him. He lightly touched his chocolate skin to see if it still was there. A sigh of relief escapes his mouth, and his nerves jump right back on to maximum level. He scans the room for his clothes. As Keith reaches for his clothes he notices the clock at 4:47am. s**t, I’m going to be late if I don’t hurry! He races to put his clothes on, then rushes out the door into the hallway. When he final makes it to the end of the hall the clock reads 4:52am. s**t, s**t, s**t! 7 minutes to draw that complex diagram, why did I have to wake up so late today! He opens the door and rushes to Dr. Shermind. “Keith you’re late, we started the diagram without you.”
“Sorry sir.”
“You can just set up the ten stones.”
“Yes sir.”
Keith rushed around the diagram carefully putting the stones in there exact locations for five minutes. Tension through all the staff increased as the final line was drawn. They all gathered around the circler diagram, holding a knife in one hand and a finger extended right above the circle. Dr. Shermind started to chant strange words that slowly weaved the air around the diagram. Then he spoke words in a whole different voice that seemed to not be his own. The 5o’ clock bell sounded and all the people cut their fingers letting one drop of blood on the diagram every time the 5o’ clock bell sounded. The diagram began light with a glow filled with hatred and a feeling of magic. The air in the diagram was pushed out making a current of air that circled the diagram. The stones pulsed as if they were alive, and then a scream from the air resonates throughout the very bones of the people. The outer lines glow as if they were metal reflecting light, and then the center of the diagram slowly dissipates leaving a dark purple mixture in the center that cascades down through the very essence of time and space. The current increases speed, and the roof above the diagram breaks off in a perfect circle. A being appears from the falls, it reeks of a stench of death and decay. It slowly turns looking at its surroundings; it screams a scream of malevolence then flies at one of the people. The person falls to the ground and instantly becomes dust as the creature flies through them, more start to appear and destroy the life of the people. Dr. Shermind watches in horror as the events unfold before his eyes, completely unable to move he waits for one of the specter-like creatures to kill him. Then all the specter-like creatures take the places of the people, they start to weave the light as if it were a liquid material. The falls slowly become a rich and shining flow of gold. Dr. Shermind starts to silently cry for the beautiful image before his eyes, but at that very moment a whole other being came out of the falls. It had eyes that seemed to be only made of bloodlust, it wore robes made of a black smooth cloth, and had chains binding its body. As it looked at Dr. Shermind he felt a pain go through his entire body. The gold of the falls vanished and was replaced by the deepest black liquid; the smell of the liquid was a smell of dry roses. The doctor looked back at the being then the world went black for him. The bonds of the being broke as Shermind died, the being started to laugh with the happiness of being able to do as it pleased now. The laugh echoed across the world, destroying hope wherever it was heard.
Chapter 1
Drew awoke from the horrid nightmare of his teacher cutting off his head. Sweat was all over his body and bed. Deciding to wash his sheets when he got home from school, he took a shower to wipe away the painful thoughts. He got on his school uniform and ran off to school through the debris of the city.
That day Drew’s class got a new student his name was Leos, a tall slender Dusk Elf. His skin almost completely black, his eyes were like the sky when the sun was below the horizon, and his hair was the color of the autumn leaves. He took his seat at the back of the room and started to follow along in the text book with the rest of the class.
The class had been learning about the old world and how it was at its peak when it had been ripped apart from the strange phenomena.
Drew had got to know Leos during the break, class started up again and the teacher was getting pretty boring by then.
Then a slight pressure filled the room. Drew started to look for the source of the pressure and saw Leos seem a little distressed. Leos stood up and told the teacher he needed to be excused. He left in a hurry after the teacher said yes, Drew decided to follow him so he told the teacher he was sick than ran off after Leos.
Outside was a scene of mass chaos, everyone was running from a huge dragon. The dragon wasn’t trying to eat anyone but it seemed to be looking for something. Drew noticed Leos on a large pile of debris; he seemed to be trying to looking for something too over the debris around the dragon. An extreme pressure hit Drew hard, he was fighting against the force but he wouldn’t last much longer. Drew slowly felt his strength wane, then noticed Leos was right in-font of him. When Leos touched Drew’s shoulder a weight was lifted from his body. Leos spoke in a soft voice, “It seems you have some magical abilities in you, I’m surprised a human could even feel magical pressure.” Drew surprised by Leos’s sentence could only think of what he could do with magic.
Then Leos suddenly turned his head towards the direction of the dragon.
Drew looked where Leos was looking and saw a child, the child was clutching is chest and he seemed to be in greater pain than Drew had been in. The child had long moonlight hair down past his shoulder blades, silver and green in his eyes, and there was a distinct mark under his right eye and was probably a scar. The child running as fast as possible could while in pain, was headed towards Leos. Leos told Drew to hold on; Drew felt the ground leave his feet. Then a rush of air touched Drew’s skin and he noticed he was going down towards the child with Leos. Before they landed from their jump the child screamed in great pain. As the child screamed his pupil stared to become more oval shaped and his iris started to fill his entire eye. Before anymore happened Leos gave the child a hug and he stopped screaming but tears ran down his face and he seemed to be very tired all the sudden. The dragon all the sudden turned towards us and let out a roar that shook the very land and started walking towards the group of three children. As the child started to fall into a slumber due to tiredness he said one thing, “Sorry mother.”
The dragon roared louder than ever and ran towards the trio. Leos started to say some strange words then the world around them changed to a small apartment. Leos checked the child’s pulse then laid him on the bed.
“Leos was that a dragon?!” Drew said as the adrenaline was still running through his blood.
“Yes it was…the queen to be exact.”
“Who is this kid?”
“I… I can’t tell you.”
“Why not?!”
“I just can’t.”
“How did we get here then?”
“I used a spell of teleportation.”
Drew looked at the child and saw a sense of peace on his face. As the adrenaline wore out Drew felt fatigue come over his mind and body.
“I’m hitting the sack, Leos I at least want to know his name.”
Leos smiled and as Drew closed his eyes he heard, “Kurai.”
Then the darkness overtook him.
Chapter 2
When Drew opened his eyes he was in a different place, the cleanest light shining down, white pillars covered in ivy, green grass and colorful flowers all round. He had never seen such beauty in his life, his mother told him about places like this, and how they held great secrets. He saw the boy named Kurai standing by some flowers, and there seemed to be two of them. One was dressed in all black the other white, they were back to back and the wall past them had a symbol for dragon.
Then Drew woke up to the smell of eggs cooking. Still groggy from the dream a big yawn came to him. He walked into the kitchen to find Leos cooking eggs, bacon, sausage, and rice. “Where is Kurai?” asked Drew. “Up on the roof looking at the stars, go get him for breakfast please.” Replied drew. Drew saw the clock it read 4:00am. As Drew went up the stairs he wondered who the Kurai was. When Drew got to the roof Kurai was sitting on the edge of the building and he was humming a strange tune. The tune seemed to add a slight pressure in the air and the surroundings seemed more alive.
