we're all stars now...

Marilyn Manson. Amazing musician, and clearly a very intelligent, well- spoken man. Listen to any interview with him and you'll see that. People don't seem to realize that he's human- a very bright human- simply because of the way he presents himself. His name represents Marilyn Monroe and Charles Manson; two extremes, he says. He has a very interesting outlook and while I don't agree with everything he says, I think he argues his points very, very well.
I can't belive they blame him for the Columbine shootings.
If I went out and shot some folks today and I happened to be a Hillary Duff fan, no one would think about my favorite musician. But if I shot some folks just the way I am- a head banging Marilyn Manson lover- it would be all because of him, just because he's a non- conformist in the extreme.
Also, I like to think of it this way; literature seems completely unimportant to the people who persecute Manson and his fellows. I use the metaphor again: if I went out and shot some folks today and my favorite authors were Anne Rice and Edgar Allan Poe, no one would think anything of it. It only seems to be the musicians they target, when writers can be just as violent and sinister! Stephen King, people? Hello?
I think it's just because he uses a lot of metaphors- and I take them only as metaphors- that seem to promote violence, like in Fight Song (which is one of the best songs he's ever written) which seems to be more about anti- Christianity than anything else. But the name itself makes the parental units cringe.
People go nuts about Freedom Of Speach- first ammendment, first ammendment, first ammendment. Well, he deserves Freedom of Speach as well, doesn't he! He's not purposely insighting anything, he's just voicing his opinions.
I also want to tell a little story of my own.
My mom is a total social butterfly. She talks up a storm to anyone she's near. So one day, she had my iPod because she wanted to walk around the track at the YMCA with it. When she was done, she was talking to this group of friends she has about what music their kids listen to. My mom was scrolling through my iPod and she says, "Erin has so many different kinds of music on here. She's got everything from Johnny Cash to Marilyn Manson!"
So this crazy dude butts in and goes, "Oh, if I were you I'd remove that!! Marilyn Manson is a bad influence!! I would never let my daughter listen to him!!"
So then, good sir, what exactly does your daughter listen to? Brittney Spears, the bald crack whore? Oh yeah, she's a great influence.
All I know is that, hey, I love Marilyn Manson. I turned out alright- I'm in the Honor Society and Tri- M, the Music Honor Society. I donate my hair to Locks of Love and I volunteer at my local library; I read to the little kiddies. Little children, well, they love me lots 'n' lots. I take good care of my two autistic siblings and I'm very patient when the old folks start rambling ^_^
And all the bitches who call me a lesbian freak listen to this pop s**t, have no lives and live to watch others suffer and be degraded. Who turned out better?

And that's my view on it.

I just don't think it's right. Just because a few people are influenced by him to do something (and they still don't know if he even influenced those two kids) that doesn't mean he's a criminal himself.
PS: Dir en Grey is kewl.
