Unsurprisingly for the man who produced Grange for numerous years, previous vine Barossa Valley Shiraz is at the heart of what he does. On the other hand, Duval is not in search of to recreate the powerful, muscular fashion of Grange. Grapes are sourced from pockets of excellence across the Barossa. The wines are long and layered, characterised by fleshy berry fruit of terrific purity supported by ripe, polished tannins. Plexus exhibits the characteristic red cherry notes of Grenache, but the fashion is additional restrained and pleasingly drier in perception than is typical for the Barossa. However wealthy and involving, Entity Shiraz shows a light hand in terms of oak and extraction. Flagship Eligo is much more iron fist in velvet glove, exhibiting denser layers of fruit very well met by highly effective but ripe tannins.
