I've been considering doing a guide for it if I ever found a good way of explaining it all. |D; lol Which is why I don't really want to explain it. Putting it simply:
1st part I gave: Controls the appearance of the non-hovered, but not how it links. You can change the background to transparent and just use the link part instead really. 2nd Part: Controls the links and appearance if you decide to make the first part transparent. 3rd Part: Controls the appearance of the button when it goes onto hover.
The width on the second part is the width of the button, the height is already set on the #bar property but you should add height: XXXpx; in if it exceeds the #bar height. The two negative numbers move the background, though why they've done that, I don't know.
As for adding the image. The image is simply the background: url();. So you'd set one background for the normal selector then another background for the selector with :hover.
