Dog of the Week Information Station

Canis Familiaris Oftheweekis

This is a segment I've recently decided to incorporate into my revised profile, which will daily depict different breeds of domestic dog. I intend to include as much of the following as I can research: geographic origin, genetic origin, original breed purpose, modern breed purpose, historical facts; as well as vivid photographs and personal opinion and insight if I discover it to be adequately mentionable.

I'm developing this portion to help expand the knowledge of myself and the people who view it. I hope dog lovers abound will appreciate and enjoy.

Dog of the Week

Airedale Terrier
Canis Familiaris Oftheweekis

My first recognized candidate is the immensely popular Airedale terrier. Families, farmers, and vermin haters alike have implemented this animals flexible functions to achieve very satisfying results, both in the field, and at home.

This rambunctious breed has conspicuous ancestry in the Otterhound, and has adapted skills and abilities for both land and water. Primarily as a hunter, it was trained to track and kill rats, mice, otters and even ferocious badgers. This dog is famous for being extremely independent and cunning, which made it a very self-sufficient towards game. Though this also means it may have a tendency to become mischievous if not properly stimulated in the home.

Identified as an English breed, the largest terrier breed received its modern name from the Airedale Agricultural Society in Bingly, Yorkshire, in 1879, as its contributions were attributed to many successful crops. It possessed prior names such as the Bingly, and Waterside Terrier.
