About
Opening his eyes the moment he felt the sun touch his pale skin, the boy drew himself to his feet. His routine was beginning to bore him, having completed it so many times before. He supposed he should be grateful, after all, he was still alive because he had been found by his 'family.' He shuddered to think of what or where he could be if he hadn't been saved. Out in the wild, feeding off humans on camping trips and hiking expeditions...he tried to push the images out of his mind.
He dressed slowly in his usual fashion, trying to blend in with the crowd, choosing that day to wear a burgundy T-shirt, a pair of faded and ripped jeans, and a pair of Converse. He pushed a hand back through his dark hair, trying to make it look less presentable without actually rolling around on it. The creature had no use for sleep, so he tended to find other things to occupy his time, even if it was just sitting against the wall of his room, lost in thought. Stopping finally in front of a mirror, the only one in the house, he sighed, realizing how little good it did him. Not to say he didn't have a reflection, he just knew that no matter what he could do, his hair would more than likely fall neatly back into place before he made his way outside into the day. It didn't take long for the early morning sunlight to fall behind the thick cloud covering of the area as he walked.
Closing his eyes, Taranis let thoughts pour over him. Not thoughts of anything in particular, just...thoughts. He had an idea for a new short story, though a few of them were still sitting on his editor's desk, waiting for approval under the pen name Asher Nightshade. Maybe he would head home soon and start it. It was, after all, raining, and normal teenagers didn't sit around on the beach while it down-poured on them. Of course, normal teenagers didn't need to live in the cloudiest, rainiest part of the country, either. That was a special treat for only his family and himself. He sighed, sitting up. He didn't technically have to breathe, but it was a hard habit to break and it was hard to do so with the water coming down on him so hard. "Time to leave the beach, I suppose," he said, getting to his feet and walking up toward the rocks and grass.
He still had the feeling that someone was there, across the beach, but with his eyesight and hearing off due to the rain, and the fact that he couldn't read the person it was, made it unable for him to tell whether or not it was someone who meant harm. He thought against the idea of just...walking up and talking to this...being. If he couldn't read it, then it was obvious that he (or she) was something special, and he was curious as to what, but smart enough not to be suicidal about the situation. So he would take a walk, and let his thoughts go mad with what they wanted to, and have fun with the story in his head before he wrote it later that night, when the rest of the town slept safely.
As he walked, the story played out in his mind, a tragic love story of a vampire's life, how he went home one night, thinking that he could control the new hunger, control his need for the blood of others, how he crept into bed with his wife as not to wake her up, closing his eyes and feigning sleep, as he could no longer actually do so. Wondering if his wife would he happy to see him when she woke in the morning; he had, after all, been gone for over a month.
And she never woke up.
Killed. All of them. His wife and his two daughters, with no one else to point blame to then himself. The blood was all over his hands, indisputable truth staining his fangs still, proof staring at him. However, he couldn't put an end to his own existence, for it was nearly impossible to kill a vampire, and even harder for one to kill itself.
Taranis's eyes burned, a feeling he hadn't felt in a while. The story he had began to form was much too close to a past he remembered all too well.
Laying on the beach watching the sky, Taranis sensed another presence near the beach where he lay. He quickly decided that it was a human presence, and calmed down, becoming less tense about it. The thing that troubled him was that he didn't know who it was, he couldn't get inside their heads to figure them out. It was a strange feeling for Taranis, who was always used to being able to get inside people to read them. He'd been able to do it for years, ever since he'd been 'born.'
The creature stood, still feeling predatory, not allowing himself to become prey for any reason, or for anything else. There was only one creature he would fear, and they were not in his town. He walked toward the edge of the beach, where rocks began, hoping to get a better vantage point to see the person approaching him. "A girl?" he said to himself, barely a whisper. Focusing closer, he noticed the girl from school. The one that had sat near him at lunch. What was she doing out on a day like this?
Of course, it was Saturday, and people did do things on Saturdays. Maybe she was just out exploring her new town. Being an orphan couldn't be that interesting in this day and age. Nothing much to do around the place but watch everyone else make friends and be abandoned by those friends. He wondered if he should go and speak to her, show her that he hadn't meant to run out on her that day, but when he caught the slightest trace of her scent in the wind, he knew that it wasn't an option.

Questions were probably a good place to start.
Nodding in agreement, he listened to her questions in order. "My age, twenty-two. It's more a question of how long I've been twenty-two." A smile spread on his face as he spoke the answer that would probably get him smacked, had he known her a little better and she was a little more comfortable around him. "That is why I left my food. Vampires can eat, it's just a little...unpleasant once it starts digesting," he said, not wanting to get into the details of the matter."
He thought for a moment before answering the next question. "No, that's not all I can do, but it's all that seems to work on you," he said. Seeing the confusion before it sprouted on her face, he quickly jumped into a short explanation. "Usually, with most people, I can...not read their thoughts per se, but that's the closest I can find to describing it."
