About

Greetings all fellow Gaians, this is the inner mind of Alex Denton (Now Ares Denton). I am an uber nerd/geek, metalhead, and wanna-be physicist.

The last an About Me was written for myself was about a year and a half ago.

Very interesting to see how a year and a half can completely change someone.

Over the course of the year and a half that I left my now out-dated About Me stay up, I am a completely different person.

- My major kinks in writing have been knocked out.
- My vocabulary has grown tremendously.
- My view of the world has completely changed (See below for a detailed explanation).
- My mathematical ability has doubled.
- My scientific knowledge has quadrupled.
- Since late April 2008, I am high-caliber College material (See below for detailed explanation).
- I have finally understood the concept of a social life and the roots behind it in humans (See below for detailed explanation).

These major changes happened recently actually, nearly three months and a half ago.

Why am I so Scientific now?

And the start of the change occurred with one simple event:
I played Sins of a Solar Empire for the first time.

Yes yes, a video game, I know what you're thinking.

That's because you haven't played it!

The game has made such an impact on me that I'm listening the Soundtrack as I type up this new About Me.

Sins of a Solar Empire is a RT4X game. http://www.sinsofasolarempire.com/faqs.aspx

Look under Gameplay for an explanation of what RT4X is.

However, the genre nor the graphics nor the gameplay nor the music nor the sound dramatically changed me.

Space exploration of the future of the human race

The simple concept of space exploration is what changed me.

We humans believe that we are the size of the Milky Way.

The reality is, in the universe, we are but a small speck of dust. Inferior. NOTHING.

Our arrogance was so extreme when we launched our first manned Moon mission, we beamed the Human Genome to one of the distant stars.

That means there is a distinct possibility that extraterrestrials are overlooking the Human Genome as I type this new About Me, looking for any flaws in the human race that will aid the inevitable invasion/destruction of the Earth.

Either we will blow ourselves up, something will do it for us, or we are engulfed the expansion of the Sun as it turns into a supergiant because our bureaucrats have failed to realize the major importance of space.

Space is the KEY to human survival. Look at what we have done to Earth. Humans need to expand now. All of our pesky wars mean nothing to the universe. They mean something to us because we are so narrow-minded. The cosmos does not care if a civilization is conducting a civil war. The cosmos simply exists and continues to expand.

And then there's String Theory saying that there are multiple universes. Imagine humans being completely intergalactic, roaming the known multiverse and meeting other intelligent lifeforms.

Humans in Science Fiction are known to be a young yet eager race, with high adaptability to any situation and expertise in a field that no other race can match.

We must live up to the call. Space is our future.

Oh no, I'm WoWing again!

On the other hand, I started playing WoW again. Why?

I made a new friend at the Church I'm working at, and he's a long time player. We started talking about the game and I told him my story.

One day I went to his house and played on his 2nd account on his 70 Hunter, and ran regular Ramparts to help out his 62 Priest. Needless to say, and as Xfire says, I went back the week before Christmas.

Why I originally quit WoW and what I did afterwards.

In early 2007, I had no job. I needed upgrades, and I couldn't spend a lot of $$. So, I sold my account, and didn't play WoW for nearly a year. I enjoyed the time, but the summer really dragged me down. There weren't many amazing PC games that lasted a long long time, only StarCraft.

And damn did I love StarCraft. Why I stopped playing, I don't know. But I know without a doubt that I will go even crazier (I played nearly 70 hours of StarCraft in 2 weeks) once StarCraft 2 comes out.

Don't get me started with Ninja Gaiden 2.

Current WoW situation

So now, with WoW, I am in a raiding guild, fully epiced out, with a 70 Mage.

My armory:
http://armory.worldofwarcraft.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Area 52&n=Rhonie

I only boot up the game to go on raids and level my 2nd Warrior, so I'm not as insanely addicted as I was in late 2005-early 2006. I haven't played it for nearly 3 days since I nearly lost my head due to severe anger on Sunday night, 5/18/2008.

Note on 6/23/2008: If my guild continues to drag its feet on raid progression, I'm cutting it off once my Senior year starts. It's getting ridiculous and annoying.

7/11/08: I have quit again. Next week I will post a very lengthy journal entry explaining why, all of the motivations, and the s**t that I was paying for. Basically, what I faced did NOT fit the definition of game:

"activity engaged in for diversion or amusement"

What I faced was not amusement. It was ignorance, retardation, and carelessness.

KA-BOOOM!
Team Fortress 2.

I'll say it again. Team Fortress 2.

Halo, Counter-Strike, Call of Duty, Battlefield fanboys, LEARN TO FEAR THIS NAME.

TEAM ******** FORTRESS 2.

The best multiplayer game I have ever played. EVER.

I was in the open beta for those that pre-ordered The Orange Box on Steam, about a week before release.

I am still playing Team Fortress 2 for about 3 hours a day.

The Orange Box was released on October 10th, 2007.

That means I have been playing Team Fortress 2 for 7 months and 11 days.

And I can still it for an entire day, in one sitting, without stopping at all.

Team Fortress 2 has EVERYTHING I want in a multiplayer game.

Ludicrous gore, insane gameplay, whacky style, completely different play styles in the same game, fast-paced, skill-based, and the best of them all, GIBS.

The last time gibs were seen in a major FPS was back in Quake 3. I know there are plenty of other FPSs that have gibs (Painkiller, Quake 4, Serious Sam, etc.) but those are not major.

I'm College caliber.

Ever since I took the April ACT, I knew I was different.

I got a 27 on my first try, without studying.

This is HUGE. I am 1 point away from earning a 100% Florida scholarship, and this means I am able to attend the higher-caliber colleges.

My designated Major is Computer Engineering, and I am close to narrowing it down to a handful of schools. FIU and UF being two of them.

Evolution: It directly affects our social lives

Girlfriends, boyfriends, religion, etc.

These are byproducts of evolution. Our primitive survival instincts cause some behaviors that may appear civilized today, such as belonging to a club or having a large group of friends.

Humans in the neanderthal era had to stick together in order to survive. They were hunters, and formed tribes. The concept of the social gathering is first seen here, in the early formation of the current homo sapien era.

Emotions and everything related to it are the results of chemical reactions to the brain. They are hard-wired into our DNA as instincts, which were used by our ancestors to make life-or-death decisions in a split second. Those that use emotions as a decision maker are primitive as they are acting on primal instinct, rather than reason. Reason is what will keep the human race alive.

All of our logical systems have been set in place for a reason. They will allow humans to continue on for eternity, as long as we leave Tier 0 territory, which is basically using materials found on a planet as power, rather than harvesting the planet's natural energy, which is Tier 1.
