Yeah, most sci-fi really bugs me. Mass Effect did a decent job with alien design and Halo is pretty inspired. Except for the Brutes, because giant ape aliens? Pass. I think part of the reason mermaids get passed up is aquatic sci-fi is usually ignored because SPACE is nautical enough. Also, I think mermaids are considered really feminine and sci-fi is MANLAND. Which is a shame, because mermaids helming starships would be epic.
The punny name doesn't even fit the story I made, but I couldn't not use that one. And yeah, mermaids are so underused. Especially in sci-fi. If Star Trek is supposed to sort of capture the adventures during the Age of Sail, then it makes no sense for there not to be a mermaid/siren analogue. Beyond Good and Evil (the game) had space whales. Why not have space mermaids?
Thanks. Dion Necurat's actually competing. He's been posting in a few different forums to spread his campaign. Clever b*****d. But yeah, I really like this avi. Coincides with me trying to write some mermaid fiction because there is a serious lack of mermaids in most genres. Space. Westerns. Et cetera. The Little Mermaid shouldn't have been a niche movie, y'know? My favorite character in the latest Pirates of the Caribbean movie was the mermaid. Most mermaid I've seen in a while.

Actually entered this avi into an avatar contest. Don't reckon I'll win, though. Already rated low. sad
