Chester and Cress grew up together and are best friends. Orphaned at a young age, Chester lives with his little sister. A master of the bow, he is a tireless worker with a somewhat sarcastic attitude.

As a boy in the quiet hamlet of Toltus, Chester was inseparable from his best friend, Cress. As both grew into manhood, they frequently hunted in the woods just outside the south gate. As a master archer, Chester's quiver holds astonishing secrets

Personality

Chester is of the best-friend archetype of character to Cress, the main male protagonist. The two, of course, need to form a good dynamic in order for their interactions to be interesting, and in order for that to happen their personalities need to not only complement each other, but also bounce off of each other and go in different directions when the need calls for it.

Because Chester is a supporting character, his personality was specifically sculpted to have a role that serves the main characters, namely, Cress and Mint. Well, mostly Cress. So, it's a given that the creators would take special consideration when making Chester the character.

One thing that is readily made apparent from the very beginning would be that Chester is Cress' friend, and apparently his only friend in Toltus; Chester comes to pick up Cress for a round of manly hunting. The two are around the same age, and it's also made apparent that the two trust each other, despite having different priorities; Chester and Cress split ways while Cress goes on a series of events to meet his love interest, Mint, while Chester goes off to take care of his own personal business.

Obviously, Chester cares a great deal about tradition; his attire is rather traditional and Eastern in design, and he stays behind apart from Cress in order to give everyone in Toltus a proper burial, including his little sister, Ami. In the Animation, an additional scene is given where Chester is hysterical, and Cress more or less allowed him to slug him, even though Cress' parents also just died, not just Ami. It is at this point that Chester gains even more respect for Cress, and their bond deepens.

However, Chester makes a true sacrifice for Cress, which proves that he's more than just there to look pretty. Chester actually stays behind in the present to distract Dhaos, while Cress and Mint are transported to the past by Morrison. The Animation goes even further with this sequence; before Cress and the others come back to the present, additional scenes with Chester and Dhaos are shown, where Chester is certain that his friend will return, and curses Dhaos for selling humanity so short.

When Chester finally rejoins the party afterward, he is at a significantly lower level than the rest of the party. This obviously bothers him; he and Cress have always trained together, but in a few minutes of time Cress has had days, if not several weeks, of experience in battle and is now much stronger than he is. Chester also refuses to drag the party down; this is played on even further in the Animation, where he is still recovering from his injuries. Being considered dead weight to those who have already accomplished a good amount was not something he was going to tolerate.

Equality is apparently something that Chester also values. Not only does he take his training very seriously in order to catch up in strength with the other characters (to the point of being very muscle-bound, as duly noted by Cress), in the Animation he is shown being the only one to go back out of Heimdall to keep Arche company, feeling disgusted at the elves' high and mighty attitude.

Chester isn't without his whimsical and quirky side, either; after all, in a memorable event, during the first hot springs scene he is the only male keen on spying on the bathing beauties beyond the wooden fence, thus proving that when libido was being distributed among the male characters, he was the only recipient.

******* OOC *******

I'm a girl in real life, my name's Lindsey. Nice to meet ya.

This is my favorite poem. x3

Don't Quit

When things go wrong as they sometimes will,
When the road you're trudging seems an uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest if you must, but don't you quit.

Success is failure turned inside-out,
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you can never tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems afar,
So, stick to the fight when you're hardest hit-
It's when things go wrong that you mustn't quit.

I try to be a good friend, and like to help my friends work out their problems the best I can. It makes me sad whenever I can't do that.

Obviously my favorite character in Tales of Phantasia is Chester Barklight, but did you know that he's also my favorite character out of all games and animes, and has been for about 4 years now? :3 For a while Lavi from D. Gray-Man was really close, but Chester is just awesome lol.

I also started writing a book and the main character in my book's name is Chester too, and so is my pet rat. (My rat was named after the chester in my story, Chester Lawless, not Chester Barklight, but Chester Lawless was inspired by Chester Barklight lol. xD)
