Maka Albarn (マカ・アルバーン, Maka Arubān?)
I, Maka, is Soul's meister. We live together in an apartment in Death City, though I seem to be the one doing most of the household chores such as cooking... Soul and I make an efficient team, as shown at the start of the series when we had already claimed ninety-nine evil souls. I am a very dedicated student at DWMA, and I scored highest of my class during doctor Stein's test. My father is Shinigami's current death scythe and my mother was a very powerful scythe meister. They are currently divorced. While I adore my mother, my so-called relationship with my father is strained. I hate him for constantly flirting with other women (which caused the divorce), though deep down I still loves him.
I'm a bit annoyed at the fact that my body has not developed yet (something which Soul tends to make fun of at times). Though I seem to have a higher IQ than Soul, I am prone to violent outbursts when anger gets the better of me. I usually hit Soul with my book (the so-called Maka-chop) after he does something perverted or makes fun of me. I may have feelings for Soul, as I seem to get jealous when Blair attempts to seduce him. I also stated that I want to get stronger for Soul, after he got injured while protecting me.
I am a very skilled scythe meister and I fight together with Soul. When Soul and I resonate our souls I am able to use the techniques Witch-Hunt Slash and Demon-Hunt Slash (a more powerful form of Witch-Hunt Slash created by my mother). Like Doctor Stein, I can use Soul Perception. This ability allows me to track down people by sensing their soul and in combat it can be used to gauge an opponent's strength. My Soul Perception is notably strong; with the death of Joe Buttataki, Medusa recognizes that my ability makes me a threat to all witches. After Soul is infected with the black blood, I start to develop black blood as well when Soul and I perform Soul Resonance. When I awaken to the power of black blood while facing off against Chrona, I become battle-crazed and incredibly powerful (even more so than Chrona), but my sanity is undermined, causing me to behave erratically at times. This can be seen during the battle with Crona where I tried to eat Chrona's head. Soul and I gradually manage to control the black blood to a certain extent, though it remains a possibility that we will be consumed by its insanity inducing properties. In the manga, I develop an 'anti-insanity' wavelength after defeating the Clown. This makes me resistant to insanity inducing attacks. In the manga, Soul and I eventually collect the souls we require to make Soul into a full-fledged Death Scythe.
In the anime it is revealed that I actually possess what is referred to as "weapon blood", meaning I have the ability to fight as a scythe. I have this ability because my father is a weapon. However, I have no direct control over my weapon powers. They only manifested when I was knocked unconscious in my final fight with the Kishin Asura.
