Long ago there was a kingdom of light ruled by an indifferent queenGossip spread that she was both lovely and powerful but quite mean
You’d see nothing but a deep darkness in the queen’s cold, dead eyes
Every night the villagers could here a benevolent knight’s cries
“Why I ask you, do you let your kingdom die?” he would say
And always her reply was, "Why care? We all must die someday."
The queen's indifference to life led the villagers to think her mad
They wanted her dead but the knight said "She's actually really sad."
"We care not," a villager said "her depression will see to it that we all die."
The knight's mentor said to him, "Will you kill her or shall I?"
The knight loved the queen but knew there was no other choice
She would not change with just his pleas and sincerity in his voice
He prefered if it wasn't his mission to carry out this dark deed
But he was the only one close to her and their people must be freed
The full moon was high as the knight entered the queen's chamber
He looked at her face one last time so still was she but with a face of anger
Anger, like she knew of his betrayal but he still drew his sword high
The knight struck, right through her heart, blood splattered his eyes
To his surprise though, there was no scream of pain, instead she smiled
And this smile was genuine, something she hasn't done since she was a child
Suddenly, behind him there shined a great golden light
An angel was there and spoke, "She's at peace dear knight."
The angel showed him a vision of the queen laughing in sunlight
"Your queen shall be reborn and return to rule with love and might"
The wonderful being touched the queen's lifeless body and it turned into dust
The knight cried, "I can no longer be a knight for I have broken milady's trust!"
"Fear not, for a knight you are no longer but a now a loving king,
You will govern the kingdom of light, go now, attend your crowning!"
The knight left the chamber to see that it was already the birth of dawn
The kingdom awaited him cheering, "He has vanquished the devil's spawn!"
He failed to tell them the queen wasn't truly dead but no matter
The new king reigned and was just, the queen will soon return to a happily ever after
