Haha, maybe.
RIG stands for Random Item Generator, they're a new thing Gaia has added recently. Basically you buy one in the Cash Shop and you have a chance of getting some shitty item or a fantastic incredibly rare one that only like, 3 people ever get. See this for an example.
Really they're just another ploy to get users to buy Gaia Cash.
Gaia has kind of 'sold out' so to speak recently. Pretty much anything good now can only be obtained through the Cash Shop, forcing users to give Gaia they're money.

It sure is. And it changes so often too. Before I rejoined in 09, I had about a 6 month hiatus due to lack of internets. When I came back there were all sorts of crazy RIGs and stuff.
But it is good to pop in now and then just to see what's happening. It's not fun coming back after being out of the loop for that long. D:
