Yes, I believe they will make use of the mythology and background for some of the characters like Elrond, Galadriel and Gandalf. Maybe some things about Mirkwood and the history of the Wood Elves.

I've read that they are adding things from The Silmarrilion and other books by Tolkien to give it more depth.

I loved the books when I was little...still do! They did a great job with the movies. Aslan was wonderfully done!

That's a really good movie! I love the woman that plays the Angel. She was the Evil Queen in The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe XD
