It's My Life, It's Now Or Never Cause I Ain't Gonna Live Forever
Chapter Three
Chapter Three

One month later–

Since promoting Victoria, Harold Saxon’s standing in the polls had improved markedly. His chances of being elected Prime Minister were extremely good. Victoria was fulfilling her promise. She was systematically eliminating those who openly criticized or opposed him, and in such a way as not to arouse suspicion. Since the death of that reporter, Baker, only one other had died. Another had simply had a change of heart, even writing an apology in his weekly column and then throwing his support behind Saxon. The Master still wondered how Victoria managed that one! A member of the House Of Lords who spoke out against Saxon often was exposed in a nasty sex scandal and resigned. Life was indeed good for everyone involved in the campaign.

However, two things gnawed at Saxon. First, Alec and his man had discovered nothing on Victoria. The Master still has her followed. If Victoria gave any sign that she knew, she had never let on. Saxon was beginning to think she did know and was leading her surveillance on a merry chase. He also suspected she was still bedding Alec. Saxon was determined that would soon end. In Saxon’s mind, Victoria was his and his alone. However they were not yet lovers. Indeed, Saxon was enjoying the flirtatious game they had going and as much as he wanted her, he also wanted to take his time. More than once he questioned himself about that. He normally saw humans as toys to be used and enjoyed. But with Victoria, he was slowly seeing her as... an equal. He was beginning to think she’d make a better politician’s wife than Lucy. But it was too late in the campaign to switch. That annoyed him.

Saxon and Victoria were in his office, going over poll statistics and newspaper articles. Victoria was sitting on the edge of his desk, her legs crossed. As always, she was well dressed and again in a short black skirt, this one silk. A form fitting black silk blouse completed the look, and her stiletto black pumps. Saxon was absently stroking her leg as she spoke. He did this often. If she was within touching distance, he couldn’t bare not to touch her. He smiled as she spoke. “So, it looks great! Barring any scandals in your camp, I truly believe you have this in the bag.... Master.” She smiled at him.

Saxon nodded, liking how it sounded when she used his name. He stood slowly, his hand traveling up to her thigh. He leaned into her. “Sounds as good as you look. I am very pleased! Come closer.... “ They leaned towards each other, about to share a deeply passionate kiss.

Just then, his intercom crackled. “Sir? Your wife is here. She needs to see you, says it’s urgent!”

Saxon pulled away from Victoria with a growl. She slid off his desk and moved around to the other side. His voice showed his annoyance and frustration. “Show her in!” He sat down, looking at Victoria. “The b***h has excellent timing doesn’t she?”

Victoria laughed. “If you truly cared for her, you’d never call her that, nor allow anyone else to. I wonder what’s wrong? They paint her nails the wrong color again?”

Saxon muttered, “probably” , as Lucy dashed in, looking pale and frantic. Victoria studied the woman. This was no botched manicure.

Lucy rushed to him. “Harry! I need... we need to talk! Now! Alone! It’s very important!” She clung to him, ignoring Victoria.

Saxon suppressed a growl. These human hysterics grated his nerves. How did men stand it? No wonder the human divorce rate was so high. He forced a gentleness he didn’t feel. “Now.. Now, Lucy. Calm yourself, my dear. It can’t be that bad! Take a deep breath. Please, sit down.” He looked at Victoria. “Would you excuse us? We’ll pick up where we left off later.” His eyes sparkled with promise.

Victoria gave a small laugh. “Certainly, ‘Sir’. I have a lunch date with an old friend anyway. I’ll see you later.” She nodded at Lucy. “Mrs. Saxon.” Then she was gone.

Saxon felt heat pulse through him as he wondered who this old friend was, and how close they were. He turned his attention to Lucy, who paced the room. “Lucy, do sit down! Now, what the hell is the matter, woman?”

Lucy kept pacing, ringing her hands. “It’s.. it’s not a problem! At least, I don’t think it is! I think it’s wonderful! But... well, I’m not sure what you will think!” She gulped air and tried to calm herself, seeing him growing evermore annoyed. She blurted it out, hoping for the best. “I’m pregnant, Harry! You are going to be a... father! Isn’t that great?”

Saxon stared at her, growing cold. Surely she had not said what he thought she said. “Excuse me? Preg.. Pregnant? You?!” He stared at her, slowly rising to his feet.

She flashed a trembling smile. Why wasn’t he smiling? She figured it was shock. Didn’t men feel shock? Surely that was universal, even with Time Lords. “Harr... Harry? Aren’t you happy? You know I’ve been wanting children. Surely you as well? Granted he, or she will only be half Gallifrian but....”

Saxon’s eyes held a murderous glare. His voice was deadly calm as he spoke. “Stop rambling! Lucy, my... ‘dear’, there is a reason the Doctor and I are the last of our kind. Our genetic make up renders it impossible to conceive in any species except our own!” He grabbed her arms painfully. “In short, my ‘faithful’ wife... it is not mine! What have you been doing?!”

Lucy stared in horror, her eyes wide. Dear God! Why hadn’t she thought of that? He kept saying no children until after he won, yet they never used birth control! Her shock rendered her speechless. There was no way to pawn this off as Harry’s now. She was caught dead to rights. Lucy feared that ‘dead’ might become the operative word. “I... I... Harry...it was just... oh dear God , please don’t kill me!”

Saxon glared at her, hate in his eyes. “Kill you? Why, Lucy, why would I kill you, my dear, faithful wife? My loving companion!” She was sobbing now. He had not loosened his grip, even though she begged him too. Instead he tightened his hold. “Who is he? WHO? You stupid cow! Don’t you know this could ruin everything?” She was sobbing still but wouldn’t name her lover. Saxon’s rage built up then exploded, he let go and slapped her across the face.

The shock of the blow sent Lucy tumbling to her knees. She hit the floor hard, laying there, holding her face. “I’m sorry... so sorry, Harry! I love you, I swear I do! But, you get so busy, can be so cruel! He... he’s kind... tender... he listens to me, makes me feel... loved! I won’t let you hurt him!

Saxon jerked her up by the hair. Lucy was kneeling now, looking up at him with teary eyes. He’d never hated anyone as strongly as he now hated her. “Save your sniveling! I don’t plan to hurt him. I plan to kill him! No one betrays me! No one! Who is he, Lucy?” He let go in disgust. The Master paced the room thinking. He breathed deep. Now wasn’t the time to lose control. He could not kill her here. He needed to think. He summoned Alec, and ordered him to escort Lucy home. He then cautioned Alec not to allow Lucy out of his sight for a minute. Without a word to her, he went to his desk. Alec helped her up and walked her out. Saxon was in such a rage he failed to notice the look of concern on Alec’s face or the gentle way he held Lucy as they left.

Saxon dialed Victoria’s number. Her mobile rang but it was her voicemail that answered. He shouted into it to come to his office immediately then slammed his mobile down. Minutes later, when she had neither answered or arrived, he flew into a rage, demolishing his office. Where the bloody hell was she?
