Odds and Ends of the Quiller's Mind
I'm only crazy if I refuse to admit that I'm crazy. I admit that I'm crazy, so I'm not crazy! Right?
When Time Weeps
Circle of Lies
Lifetimes of lifetimes of lifetimes ago, before the first stars began their cosmic dance, and these worn pages of time were yet to be touched - the writer had not written that far yet - there was a prequel.

Yes. A prequel. A prequel to this story that we live in now. Of course, there was a prequel before that prequel, and a prequel before that earlier prequel as well, but they are distant, distant songs. Their remnants echo through our story, yet none seem to remember. Almost none. There are still some, some that still watch, and have stepped from one story to the next over various chapters and books.

She is one of them. The Weeper. The one who, though bound by time, did not serve it. She is the one who walks through the pages of Time through the guidance of the Author, the true, true author, and she weeps. She is the Weeper, and she weeps for Time.
She weeps for, though hopefully distant, Time will run out. There will be no more. The final, last sequel will be written, then Time will stop. She is bound by time, and even if she did not serve it, she cannot escape it.

So she weeps for each story, that begins, and that ends. She weeps, and never sheds a tear. Not tears. Her eyes are long blind from weeping, and no tears are left to fall. Her own story ended, and she goes on, even when all that she has known and seen has faded, hundreds and hundreds of pages ago.

She saw the prequel. She witnessed the ones before that. How long ago and how many, only she knows. But she remembers, each world that comes...and goes. Their birth, their fall, their redemption, and then - immortalization. Death.

She weeps.

Yes, she weeps. She has seen gods rise, she has made heroes and legends and myths of the past into gods, she has seen gods rise and gods fall. But they are not gods, just like she is not. They, like her, do not serve Time. They serve only the Author. Only the Author.

The Weeper is the Goddess of Time. She has watched worlds come and worlds go. She does not know when she, herself will end. But she will weep until she does. Perhaps, the weepers that came before her, and the ones that she will teach, and the ones she walks with now, may find something more. But she cannot end by Time. No, she will end when all other Weepers end - with Time. When the Book ends, and the Author's attentions turn elsewhere. She will smile, smile with lips and form no longer human or flesh or spirit or mind. And with all the weepers that have every been bound to time, she comes and goes through the worlds she has been to, and she weeps.

The Prequels that were, the Sequels that are to come. And now...the Story that is being written with every breath of every creature of every race of every time. And the Weepers watch. And weep. And weep. And weep.
