I was handsome prince. I live in an extravagant castle in France; and have everything I could ever want. Due to my lavished and luxurious lifestyle, people label me as selfish and spoiled. On the eve of Christmas, there was a knock upon my castle doors. As I opened the doors, I found myself faced with a woman, begging for shelter, and offered a rose as her payment. I would have probably let her in, if it was not for her revolting and repulsive appearance. I sneered at the beautiful gift because of this, and demanded her to leave at once.

The ugly woman begged once again, and I turned her down a second time. Once shunned, her ugly appearance seemed to disappear, and the hag before me turned into a beautiful woman; and then reveals to me, she is none other than a very powerful enchantress. Enamored by her beauty, I try to apologize. I offer her a place to stay, but it is too late. The Enchantress before me states there is no love in my heart, only the need to be shallow. As punishment for the empty heart I carry, she cursed me for eternity. In the light of her magic, my handsome appearance soon flipped.
I am ugly.
I am hideous.
I am ... a beast.

If that was not enough; she cursed my entire castle, turning it into a dreary place. My plants died, my statues of people turned into gargoyles, with terrifying faces. My servants paid the price of my heartless actions; and were turned into household objects and appliances.

There is a cure to this curse; and it is for me to find love in a woman, who could love a man that looks like my beastly self. I know it's impossible, and know I would live the rest of my days in this awful body.

I am ashamed of my looks. I am disgusted with what that woman turned me into. I do not want others to see me, so I am locking myself away in my castle, and hiding in the darkness, just sealing myself off from the rest of the world. All I have to keep my sanity is this magic mirror the enchantress gave me, which is my only contact with the outside world.

It seems like an eternity; but several years have passed, and an old man trespassed onto my property today. I was enraged, and threw the man in the dungeons. My servants seemed to have let him in to care for the sick man, but I don't care one single bit. He trespassed, and must pay the price. I want no one to see me.

It seems this old man has a daughter, for she came to my castle, looking for him. She indeed found him, but also found myself. I ordered her to leave; and she refused; but then offered to take the place of her father. I watched her stand up to me, and was curious. I accepted her offer; only if she remained at the castle with me forever. When she accepted those terms, I let the old man go, taking her in his place; as my prisoner.

I gave her the rules; she could be anywhere in my castle, except the west wing. I invited her to dinner, and she never came down. Angry, I rushed up to her room, and demanded her to come down to dinner with me, and she refused once again! I said she could starve for all I cared, and fled to my room.

Today was the last straw. She came into my room, I yelled at her to get out; and she fled my castle. The woman was daft! She ran into a pack of wolves. If it was not for me, she would have been dead. I myself sustained a few wounds, but thanks to that woman, I was better. I think, there is something there now. She does not look at me with fear or anger.

She smiled at me...

I showed her the library today. Seeing that smile on her face brought joy to myself. I was so happy she enjoyed her present. In fact, she even read a story to me in front of the fire. Our time together is glorious, and tonight I am eating a nice dinner with her, and then dancing with her in the ballroom. I am very excited, and everything is planned out perfectly.

Tonight, I will confess my love to her.

...
Tonight was a disaster.
We ate dinner. We danced.
I was ready to confess my love to her, when I saw sadness in her eyes. She spoke of how she missed her father; and to try and cheer her up, I gave her my mirror to use. Seeing her father, she saw he was in danger, be was ill; so I did what I thought was right. I let her leave me forever. I told her, she was no longer my prisoner. I watched her leave my castle, my heart is hurting now.

This will be my last entry.
