Aramaki Profile

Age: 62
Birthday: January 9
Class: Ninja

Bio: Leader of the ninjas living in mountains that contain Godbird's Eyrie, the former nest of Empyrea before Rhapthorne's revival and subsequent destruction. He is the adoptive father of Motoko.

The Schism of Empyrea: After the defeat of Rhapthorne by the Hero of Trodain and his companions with the aid of the Godbird Empyrea, the people of Empycchu had a decision to make. They knew that they were about to get a lot of attention because their deity had helped save the world. The isolation they had enjoyed since the time of the seven sages was no longer possible. The question was, is the outside world a threat to Empyrea now? Some thought that outsiders would not act in ways that align with the tenets of Empyrea and should not be trusted. Others thought that they should be the ones to teach them about Empyrea and guide those who sought them out. Both groups agreed that a stronger focus needed to be put on combat arts, for the defense of both their homeland from the monsters that remained after Rhapthorne's defeat and those who were sent out if they decided to do so. The debate between the groups on either side bubbled under the surface until the Hero of Trodain, now king of Trodain, arrived for the first time since Rhapthorne's death. The hero asked what the people of Empycchu intended to do, as he had begun to hear increased interest in Empyrea from those who survived his wrath. Two representatives approached the hero, one for each group. With the hero acting as a mediator, the groups came to a compromise. The group who thought outsiders were a threat would live in the mountains that contained the Godbird's Eyrie. These would eventually become the ninja. The group who thought those interested in the Godbird should be allowed to learn about her would live in and around Empycchu. These would eventually become the monks of Empyrea. The hero and his companions would be the sole outsiders allowed on Godbird Isle without extensive interrogation. The hero said he would work to have it so the people of Godbird Isle would be allowed to run a stall at the annual Grand Bazaar in Argonia if they so desired.

The birds and the chief: One of the people who left for the mountains was 23-year-old Aramaki. Before the schism split the population of Empycchu, he took care of the various birds on the island. He had a particular knack for helping hawks and other birds of prey. Originally, he was assigned to gather information on the local bird populations by the chief ninja. The chief intended to use the birds as sort of markers for the locations of various resources. Aramaki, however, started noticing that several species would bring nesting material to specific locations no matter where they flew previously. He began to wonder if these birds could possibly be trained to deliver messages between his people or between them and the monks. Against the wishes of the current chief, his group leader approved of training the birds. Four years of secret collaboration between various small groups of ninja and monks led to a dependable message relay system being created. The ninja and monks could quickly send notes between various spots on the island. Despite going against his orders, this impressed the chief enough to put Aramaki in a leadership position in the fledgling intelligence division of ninja.

Excision, Ascension and Adoption: After four years as leader of a team, Aramaki had developed a reputation of being incredibly effective when it came to gathering and compiling information. He was also known to be one of the more friendly and calm people associated with the ninja. He had made friends with multiple disciplines of both ninja and monk. This irritated the chief, as separation from the monks was the intention of forming the group in the first place, but he couldn't argue with the results. It had become much easier to coordinate operations across the island thanks to his efforts, perhaps to easy. In his steadily growing paranoia over the years, the chief began to see Aramaki as a threat to his power. He needed to be made an example of. An opportunity came under unfortunate circumstances. A woman had succumbed to complications during childbirth; one who Aramaki was well-acquainted with. Under these circumstances, the child would normally be taken in by the chief. This was not what the chief decided to do. In defiance of tradition, the chief said the child would be given to whoever gave him the best offering. Aramaki would not stand for this. He cited various tenets of the Empyrean faith the chief was violating, such as "the flock must care for the fledglings unconditionally", but the chief would not change his mind. A brawl nearly broke out between Aramaki's allies and the chief's henchmen, until a duel between the two leaders was issued by Aramaki. The fight was close, until the chief managed to get his hands around Aramaki's throat. His life flashing before his eyes, he knew he had to finish the fight quickly. He focused his ki into talons and thrust his left hand into the throat of the chief. His arm cracked with the strain, but the chief fell to the ground. Aramaki stood up and tossed his mask off before facing the crowd. He picked up the child and began to weep. He had become the new chief and adopted the child. He named her Motoko.
