Koneri's Archive of Epic and Fail
Film/anime/manga reviews, awesome videos, epic wins and epic fails, and stuff about life.
Hello, hello, hello! <3

Ever since I’ve been in Gaia, I’ve never even written a journal—well, maybe, a proper one that is. So I’ll begin writing something-that-looks-like-a-journal-but-really-isn’t-one…

THIS WEEK, I’ll comment on the best horror manga I’ve read.

1) By far the most terrifying of all, UZUMAKI! No, not Naruto. Uzumaki, written and illustrated by Junji Ito, presents the story of a town in Japan cursed by a very trivial shape—the spiral. Slowly, everyone is getting addicted to spirals in one way or another.Well, long story short, Uzumaki isn’t actually a ‘’manga’’—rather, it’s a collection of stories involving the two main characters, and various other scary people. However, throughout the manga, the truth about the spirals is revealed, and man, is it a horrid one.

(For any potential readers, it’s read from left to right. Yes, surprised me too, especially since I read it wrong the first time >w> wink

ART

Junji Ito is my favorite mangaka; he has by far the most intriguing art style. Ever. And since I usually avoid manga with silly art, I’m not disappointed at all :3 I’ll post a link to a blog that had pix: http://randompanels.blogspot.com/2006_10_01_archive.html Few pages from the manga are available once you scroll down to where it says, ‘’Seriously, This Has Got to Be, Like, Totally Freaking You Out’’ Don’t be put off by the ugly, spirals..creeping out from the eyes..mouth..AHEM yes generally the art is simply awesoperfectofantastic.

Huge, huge warning man.
If you have a weak stomach, heart, or whatever, stay away from everything Junji Ito. He is truly the master of this genre, and his two works presented here, Uzumaki and Gyo, are both complete [********.

2) Okay, let's see: pretty art style, check. Sudden death stench, check. Freaking scary fish on mechanic legs, check. Very creepy s**t, check. In other words, you have yet another manga of Junji Ito, but this time its name is GYO. Any further things will ruin the story but...you'll never, EVER, EVERVERVERVER look at a fish the same way again.

Again, not for the weak stomached.
(Also, mangafox also has the bonus stories that came with GYO, equal in scariness.)

3) Final (and getting into the scary science-fiction stuff) is Highschool of the Dead (which is getting adapted into an anime this July) Suddenly, teachers and students at a high school in Japan start to become zombies after a crazy-butt man bit someone. The zombiness can be transmitted through bites, and the zombies cannot die unless they are shot at the head. All in all, there's a group of survivors which consists of: A bad-a** guy, a fat nerd that is creepy, 4 ridiculously busty girls, a loli and a dog. Also, guns. And zombies--oh, and more zombies...Did I say zombies?

Lots of ecchi and gore, the storyline is not THAAAAAAAT original, but it is surely creepy. Especially the desperateness of it all just makes you shiver--there's no chance for humans to survive, it seems. At all. (or maybe I've missed a chapter saying so :c)

ART

Okay, the art is not that great as Uzumaki, but there's something special about it. And the zombies are drawn fairly well~:3

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And that's it with scary-a** manga that you have to read if you are interested in horror stuff. I know I am. [goes to read stuff that will give me trouble sleeping later]

I'll update in a few days with a review of Umineko no Naku Koro ni.

CHIAAAAAAAO.
