My Stories or Poems
Highway 16
Driving down that highway 16 and seeing a full starry night.
Everything seems endless and timeless.
With everything seeming perfect, a night like this will end, even if it shouldn't.
Fields of Wisconsin have been killed by the snow and ice.
Things wishing would heat up outside.
Inside my heart is burning with a desire to not leave him now.

Driving down the long road seems to take up the time nicely.
Holding onto his arm and trying to listen to his heart beat,
this seems like the perfect place to be.
A silence seems still but yet quiet enough that it isn't awkward.

Soft music playing throughout the truck and my heart beating slowly.
When the time comes to say goodbye, it will be hard to let go.
The snow flashes by and all I see is the corn fields of Wisconsin.
Bitter cold air is spinning in the air and there are no clouds in sight.

Turning down the road past the church, the sign is just bright as the stars.
I don't want to say goodbye and I don't want to open the door.
Finally, the last turn into the driveway.
Slowly my heart starts to break.
But between us, there is a moment of sadness and not wanting to part.
The air settles around the vehicle and the heat from the truck makes its' way onto our skin.

Frost continues to grow on the windows outside but the heat starts to kick in.
After saying goodbye, I sadly have to open the car door.
A rush of cold air rushes in and takes the place of the heat.
Sometimes I wish the night wouldn't have to end.
Seeing his smile as he pulls out of the driveway.
Maybe this could be the last time.
Just maybe.
