The ticking sound got louder. …Tick…tick…tick…tick…beep….. All of a sudden an explosion was heard as Kana’s kitchen exploded her whole house began to catch fire Kana was knocked out as the fire spread all over. ~I can’t… move..~

Kari sighed “Man… I can’t believe mom made me walk all the way out here just to look for Neji” she said “Neji…. Where are ya boy” she said looking around and sighed “that damn dog always gets lost” she said looking up at the sky as she smelled of something as burnt wood “Hmm? A barbeque?” she turned to looked at where it could be at her eyes widened “A-A Fire?! People could be inside..” she ran toward the house as she walked inside to see the fire spreading everywhere she looked to see the figure helpless on the floor passed out “Kana!” she shouted running over and grabbing hold of Kana she strapped her on her back and headed for the door as objects started falling and the ceiling started to crack. Kari ran to the door as the ceiling was about to fall and jumped out far enough away from harm holding onto Kana. Kari looked at Kana from behind her “You’ll be fine now… Kana..” she said and smiled looking at Kana passed out with some cuts and burns. “Let’s get you to the hospital..” she walked to the direction of the hospital. Neighbors and people around Kana’s neighbor hood whispered words into other people’s ears and peeked at the house burnt to a crisp. Kari sighed looking down “Who ever did this to Kana-chan is gonna die…”

~I hear voices… and sounds… Am I… dead?~ Kana thought as her eyes opened slowing as she coughed. Kari and a nurse looked at her as Kari smiled “Kana! You’re awake!” she said standing by her bed. Kana looked at her “Kari-chan.. But..” she looked around “where am I?” “At the hospital silly” Kari said and smiled “I brought you here after I smelled a burning nearby, you’re lucky I made it in time” Kari smiled at her. Kana’s eyes widened ~That’s right… my house was burnt…~ she thought as she stood up slowly and looked down. “H-Hey be careful Kana, you’re still injured” Kari said as she looked at her “Is something wrong?” “My house…my home…it was gone so fast…I couldn’t do anything to save it… I don’t have enough money to buy another house… what do I do?” she asked almost at tears. Kari had a worried face “Well.. Maybe someone is available… I would offer you to stay at my house but… it’s full” she said “Karai-chan’s house is also full, and it’s not a very safe place since Karai and her sister always fight, Hmm… maybe you could ask Keade-chan, her apartment is good enough, she lives by herself so maybe you could move in” Kari said to her hoping she’s feel better. “But… I don’t want to cause anyone trouble..” Kana said “Don’t worry about it, I bet Keade-chan wouldn’t mind and besides, we’re your friends, we’ll always help you if you’re in a jam” she said and winked at her “So don’t worry ok?” she said giving her a thumbs up. Kana had a smile on her face as she clinged to the blanket. ~So… this is what it’s like having friends…~ she thought ~I’m so happy…~

A few days after, Kana was able to leave the hospital with Kari, along the few days she had visits from Keade and Karai, Kari had slipped the question to Keade about Kana staying over at her apartment and Keade had agreed. Kana promised she’d only stay long enough until she was able to buy a house. Kana smiled as she walked off with a suitcase of her clothes that wasn’t burned in the fire. Kari looked at her “Keade-chan’s apartment isn’t far so you can relax if you’d like there” “No, I’m fine, I just need a quick bath and I’ll be up on my feet again” Kana said smiling at her. Kari smiled back “Hmm.. But I do wonder..” Kana looked at her alittle puzzled “Hmm?” “I’m wondering how Nakora is doing not being able to see you, is he worried?” Kari asked herself and Kana. Kana looked down “I think he is worried…” she sighed “But don’t worry, when I go back to school I’ll be sure to tell him what happened” Kana said Kari nodded as they arrived at the apartment labeled ‘#34’ Kari rang the door bell as Keade opened it. Kana smiled at her “Hello Keade-chan” she said “Hey Kana-chan” Keade said as she smiled back “You can come in and unpack, there was an extra room so you can use that, the bathroom is on the right if you wanna use it” she said to her giving her room to enter her apartment. Kana walked in looking around “wow.. It’s so clean and pretty in here…” she said Keade sweat dropped “It’s not that pretty… just some stuff from my family before” she said Kari smiled “well Kana-chan, have fun and get acquainted, I’ll be leaving now, I have Karate Practice so I wont be back until later” she said waving goodbye and left. Kana smiled as she entered her room placing her suitcase on the bed opening it looking at the picture of her parents, the sides burnt. “It’s a good thing it wasn’t all burned” she sighed in relief as she placed the picture on the desk by the bed. She folded her clothes placing them in the drawers. “Well there’s not much clothes I have left but… it’ll have to do… I need to buy new clothes..” she sighed.

She stepped into the bathroom and undressed herself and hopped into the bath as she sighed feeling the hot water on herself ~Keade-chan is so nice to let me stay here… but still… my house.. It’s gone~ she sighed again leaning her head back looking at the ceiling. “I need to work extra hard so I don’t cause Keade-chan any trouble. I’ll make sure to get enough money to get my own place in as short a time as possible” she said and nodded washing herself off and dumped a bucket of water on her head. ~I’m glad I have such nice friends… it’s been so long since… before~ she thought thinking of the boy that helped her all those years ago: Kana was age 7 and he was 8 years old, Kana was petting a cat she had found straying around by her house. The cat meowed and Kana gave her some milk she had from her lunch. As the cat drank it someone yanked the cat away from Kana. Kana got scared looking up to see the same kids who’d always bully her. “What kind of cat is this?” one of them asked as the others laughed. He held that cat by the neck as it hissed and tried to break free but couldn’t. “St-Stop it!” Kana said standing up to help the cat. Two kids pushed her down and started kicking her ~This hurts… make it stop..~ she thought as she started to cry “Kana! Kana! That’s such a stupid name!” someone said. “Haha! You’re named after a boy’s name!” “Hey! If she has a boy name, she should look like a boy” the one holding the cat said as someone gave him a pair of scissors. Two people held Kana back as he went to cut her hair. Some then rushed forward pushing the guy as he stumbled down. The little boy grabbed Kana’s hand pulling her up and dragged her away from them. “Huh?” Kana asked as she looked at the boy dragging her. “You’ll be ok now, Kana-chan” the boy said as he smiled at her. Kana blushed “A-Arigato(thank you)..” she said as he dragged her to a safer part of the playground. Kana smiled remembering it. “He was so nice.. I wished I knew him now… maybe.. We could have..” she shook her head “No no, I’m with Nakora-kun hehe… I can’t be thinking of things like that” she said as she started drying herself off.

When Kana finished in the bathroom she walked out looking at Keade as she was eating some breakfast. Keade looked over at her “You hungry?” she asked Kana blinked “Uh..” her tummy growled a bit as she blushed embarrassed “hehe…” Keade smiled “Well if you need food there’s some in the fridge or you can make some yourself.” Keade said. Kana walked and looked into the fridge and then the cabinets seeing flour and all sorts of stuff “hmm.. I think I’ll make some pancakes” she said and smiled taking the ingredients out and a bowl. Keade watched her as Kana placed each ingredients in and stirred it her touch was very gentle as she stirred it nicely heating the pan placing one glob of the pancake batter onto the pan. In about 10 minutes or so, 6 pancakes were made, nice fluffy and smelled incredible. Keade blinked looking at the plate of pancakes. ~Wow…~ she thought. Kana giggled seeing her expression “You can have some if you want” she said putting three pancakes onto a plate for Keade. Keade looked at the plate of pancakes gulping she grabbed some honey pouring it on the pancakes. She cut a piece and ate it chewing slowly she had a small blush “Wow… this is so… delicious” she said. Kana laughed “Thank you…” she ate some herself “Hmm… needs some fruit” she said getting some strawberries cutting them and placing them atop her pancakes. She started eating again. Keade blinked “How’d you learn to cook like this?” she asked. “From my Obaa-chan… she was a good cook and she taught me everything” “Wow… if I ever meet your Obaa-chan one day I’m gonna ask her to teach me how to cook like this” Keade said taking another bite of the pancakes. “She’s dead.” Kana said looking down. Keade looked at her “Huh?” “She died… about two years ago…she had a bad illness and passed away..” Kana said taking another bite of her pancakes chewing slowly. “O-oh… I’m sorry..” Keade said. “Oh no it’s ok” Kana smiled at her “Obaa-chan was a very important person to me, and if she ever saw me sad I’d make her sad, so I know she’s there watching me, it’s better than nothing else I’d ever want. So I am happy..” Kana said. Keade smiled “Right” she nodded.

After their breakfast Kana decided to take a walk around to the park. Keade was off at work so Kana was alone. Keade told Kana to be safe before she left. Kana had nodded and promised her she’d be ok. Kana walked out the door to the park as she felt the bandaged on her cheek and forehead and her hands. She sighed “It hurts…” she walked to the street light as she stopped. Looking down ~Nakora-kun… he’ll be so worried when he sees me~ she thought and sighed walked into the entrance of the park she walked along the path as kids and parents passed her. A man selling ice cream stopped on the side as kids rushed up to him. Kana turned as she neared a bench with a person sitting on it eating some ice cream. Kana made a turn as her name was called “Kana-chan?” Kana turned her head to look at the person on the bench. “N-Nakora-kun…” She said alittle surprised. He stood up dropping his ice cream as he saw her bandages he walked over to her “what happened to you?! Are you alright?” she asked Kana smiled at him “I’m fine, I was in the hospital for a few days that’s all” she said “No need to worry” Nakora gave her a close hug “I was worried when you didn’t come to school” he said Kana blushed hugging him back “Nakora-kun…” He pulled back from the hug looked at her “But why were you in the hospital?” he asked. Kana looked down “W-Well…” “Come on.. You can tell me” he said “My house…it was burnt down and I… was inside..” she said. His eyes widened alittle as he clenched his fists “It had to be Yuna…” he said getting very pissed. Kana looked at him “I don’t think it was Yuna-chan, she couldn’t have done this, she didn’t have my key, and I must have dropped it on the way home from school” she said “The person who did it must have broken into my window, but Yuna doesn’t know where I live so It cant be her” she said. Nakora sighed “then who could it have been? You don’t have any enemies at school and I doubt it was a thief.” he said. “I- don’t know but… at least I’m fine right?” she looked at him and smiled. He looked at her “Yeah… and I’m glad you are or else I wouldn’t be able to do this anymore.” He held her chin kissing her deeply Kana blushed more kissing him back the same. Nakora pulled away from the kiss looking into her eyes and smiled “But wait… if your house is gone.. Then where are you living?” “At Keade-chan’s apartment with her, she said it was ok so I am… I didn’t want to at first but she insisted” she said Nakora smiled “that’s good, but are you sure you’re ok?” he asked concerned. Kana smiled “I’m perfectly fine, these bandages are just helping my cuts and burns heal” “Well if you’re sure…” Nakora said Kana nodded “yep” Nakora smiled and held her hand walking “Good” Kana smiled at him as she squeezed his hand gently as they walked through the park together.
