You may already know that some gorillas have learned sign language in the past, but did you know that they have owned pets too? I grew attatched to one particular gorilla named Koko, and her cat named All Ball. One day Koko asked her trainer in sign language that she wanted a cat. Koko chose a boy grey manx from a litter of abandoned kittens, and took care of her like a baby gorilla. One day All Ball escaped and was later ran over by a car. When her trainers told Koko about what happened, she signed to them the symbols for cry and sad. It is said that Koko cried for two days after this happened. This story makes me feel so emotional ;_; and its so surprising too. I had no idea that gorillas could feel emotions that were so similar to peoples. Koko was allowed to pick two new kittens from the litter that were later named "Lip Stick", and "Smokey".
