April 2007 (Lesson learned: Too many events = BAD) |

After last month's events and features it was believed that with more events and features things couldn't get much better, since for the first time ever St. Patrick's Day was celebrated on the website. Unfortunately by April we would discover how too much of one thing can be bad, in this case, too many events.
The month of April started once again with our hopes that Gaia would pull a prank on us on April Fools Day (a.k.a. Innocent's Day), after all we got served back in 2004 and the next two years we got a storyline update but for me those are not considered AFD events. The day started like any other, we were certain that once again there would be no pranks this year and since there was no announcement about storyline updates coming we thought there would be nothing.
But suddenly......
Whoa a black giftbox! *Clicks* (Come on, blow my face! evil )
Surprisingly there was no You got served! banner or anything strange happened to my avatar, what the ********? eek
Oh right, the box is in my inventory. Open the box? Hell yeah, this is it, it's going to blow in my face and I can already see it. ninja
Oh my a platinum halo!? surprised Well, maybe there will be no explosions this year so I might as well get the best of it and try this pretty halo on.
*Equips and gets a soot face instead*
WTF? gonk Oh s**t, I got served all right. xd It was too good to be true, how clever of them to trigger the prank when I let my guard down, it was too obvious if the box would have just blown in my face so they disguised it as a pretty halo. Unlike the soot face we got in 2004 this one became an equippable item so now we can use it without worrying we might lose it when we change our avvies. smile People can't complain about the originals not being special anymore, since all the existant ones turned into red X's and the owners had no choice but to save and lose it or stay like an X.
Yes, April Fools Day was awesome, can't wait for the Easter event which would be celebrated a week later. whee
Easter is one of the biggest events every year, is perhaps the best after Halloween and maybe Christmas. Collecting Easter events, finding the Easter Bunny somewhere on the maps and then getting the basket with one of many event items. Sure I preferred when the eggs were hidden on the pages and after finding the Easter Bunny we also had to search for the basket to get the event items, but is ok, I don't mind the small change we had in last year's event.
However, the Easter event this year was HORRIBLE! *Lighting strikes*
And here is why, and I have A LOT to say:
At first the event seemed it would be great, but as soon as it started I knew it wouldn't be that great. The event was basically a St. Patrick Day rip-off, but worse. The first part of the event was in the forums were these random Easter eggs would pop on the screen just like last year and we clicked them to collect them:
We did the same thing for St. Patrick, and after collecting enough orange chicky eggs (bunny eggs with their ears cut off xp ) we could trade them for the event items in Rufus store, the prizes and the egg requirements were:
2 eggs = Small Easter Egg = Baby Chicky 4 eggs = Medium Easter Egg = Cutie Chicky 6 eggs = Large Easter Egg = Chubbi Chicky
Pretty much the same thing happened with the Clovers in St. Patrick, is the same item on 3 different sizes. Pretty much this is all we could do during the event, because although there was the second part which would be in towns collecting Easter eggs we could sell for gold, it NEVER WORKED! There were no eggs at all during the event, a few users claimed to be able to get one but it was all product of a glitch. In St. Patrick it was the same thing but at least they fixed it and for those of us who couldn't get into towns there was no problem when the event was extended. Why couldn't they do this with the Easter event? I don't care how long we have to wait until they fix the problem, and who cares if they get it fixed by one month after Easter. Why can't we celebrate it later? Doesn't anyone know the old saying ''Is never too late to celebrate''?
Too add to the dissapointment the forum event had a limit, after getting 50 orange eggs on the account we couldn't get anymore, so basically for me the event was officially over. Sure I could make a mule and get 50 more eggs but, what's the point? I am not going to make extra accounts just for this, and in fact I hate mule accounts, I am fine with this one alone. I never understood why they added a limit to the event. If the reason was to prevent the item hoarding then it was the stupidest reason ever, because people just made mules and kept hoarding items, unless they would have prevented the making of new accounts during the event but for the looks of it they didn't. And it got worse, because sometimes when we clicked the eggs there was this error message that said the egg couldn't be granted, which means you lost an egg. That's right, the egg is lost you never got another chance to get it back, so if someone got the error 50 times then cry me a river because the event was over anyways. gonk
Why there weren't no Bunny items either? We all know that the bunnies are the principal symbol of Easter, I know I always see them on the cartoons and promotional Easter products, but I never see any chickies. I figured that since they made 5 bunny items last year and only one was a chicky item they decided to make it even and add more chickies. xp What a shitty event!
A two part event were one didn't worked at all and the other was very limited, since I reached the limit the first day of the event I did nothing the other two days. Did the staff cared to explain why was it so messed up? In effect they did:
According to the developers they ran out of time, since they made so many events recently (Valentine's, Anniversary Ball, St. Patrick and April Fools Day). They planned a better event but because of us greedy ungrateful Gaians they couldn't because of all the developing they had to make the last two months, which includes many features as well. Things didn't turned out the way they expected, neither did we. xp
Well, glad I could get all that out of my system. Hopefully we all learned our lesson and will stop asking for too much from now on and give the staff a break. 3nodding In fact we all deserved it anyways, so for now let's just move on and forget all about this event which I consider the biggest screw up in the history of Gaia events. xd Don't get me wrong, I still appreciate what the staff do for us and all the effort they make to please the majority (because they can't please everyone, is impossible).
After all the ranting I did you are probably thinking ''Dude shut up, be thankful it was for free and stop whining'', well is true, I pay nothing to use the site but the staff need our feedback to know how things can be improved for the future of Gaia. Saying I loved it and that it was awesome would be a lie, I expressed how I felt and will always do. But besides the Easter event, nothing else have really dissapointed me this much. Hopefully we will have a better event by next year, I believe in the staff. 3nodding
Now the other event is worth mentioning was that Gaia reached it's one billion post eek
There wasn't much except that the gold bonuses were doubled for the day, it was a nice little detail, and I never got to find out in the poster of the one billionth post ever got a reward.....
We also got an update on the header banners, we can choose from many designs to add to out banner which are:
That last one of the sailor I never got the option, but someone told me it exists.
And now for the rest of the features:
- April 2007 items: We got the choice between the Occulus Magica, Lunar Scythe and Aquatica.
- Gaia Cinemas:
Now we can watch movies that will be passed on the site while we chat with our friends, hope you remembered to bring some pop corn. blaugh
- Dressing Room and Museum:
Now we can try the new donation items every month before we buy them, so now there is no risk of losing gold on items that doesn't please you. Plus the museum which shows every donation item released and with their respective release dates.
- And of course, the Weekly Comics for this month:
Ok, I am finally done for now. Thank you for reading and listening to my rants (maybe one year from now we will all be laughing at this xd ) and good day to all.
