After all the crazy stuff that happened in Gaia for the past two months with the arrival of the Zurg and the several plots that involved them with the gaians, Christmas in Gaia was expected to be just as crazy this year.
Gaia Christmas banner:
We start with the conclusion of the mystery of the Zurg website (link to it in the previous entry). As you may remember there were several passwords that were required to advance through the website, the last time we discovered the codes for the first two pages. The code crackers managed to figure the rest:

RedBino Lotus Elise Blue Creep
Page four:
there is no cow level (beside the megaphone icon) zurg1234 delta (bottom left of the page)
After this you get conducted to a new page asking you to who you want to give the blue prints, depending of your choice you receive a special item, a rebellion face mask if you chose the resistance or the antennas is you chose to aid the Zurg.
The blue prints suggested that the Zurg had big plans for Santa this year, but what? Will they kidnap him? And if so, could this be the end of Christmas!? gonk
Unfortunately there was no way to know for sure until the Christmas event kicked in. As the date was approaching Cindy Donovihn interviewed Johhny Gambino, who wanted to give all of us a warning:

(And no, is not about his interest on Cindy xp )
It looks like whatever he and Mother were planning didn't turned out the way he expected and now he urges us not to forward her plans.
There wasn't anything else added for this part of the storyline, but as the days passed the plans the Zurg had for Santa were revealed in a very brief storyline, even though they didn't turned out the way it was expected xp :
Oh yes 02, you screwed up BIG TIME! xd
But if Santa now has the mind of a cow, who will give us the presents this year? Was Christmas doomed?
Naturally the answer was no, another interview by Cindy Donovihn cleared things up, were alien 02 made a proposal:
Introducing also Rancher Bill, the newest NPC:
And of course, the interview:

It was time for all of us to become Santas this year, however the rivalry between the Gaians and the Zurg was far from over, the next battle took place during the Christmas event itself.
The event was divided in two parts, like the past two years we had the Christmas caroling event and new from this year the Gift giving event.
Gift Giving
For the Gift giving event we had to deliver presents to other Gaians in a special forum used for the event (note: Gaians didn't actually got them in their inventories, is just like the Halloween event candies). We chose to give gifts for Santa or alien 02:
After receiving the gift we went to the forum and sent it to any user we wanted by clicking the button under their avvies. After giving enough gifts we received special event items depending for which Santa we delivered, We got the long bull horns and the cowhide santa hat from Santa and the lucky star and watermeat (might I add people loved them way too much? heart ) from alien 02.
We had 10 full days and we only needed to give 20 gifts to receive all 4 items at least once, so imagine how many duplicates will be roaming the marketplace once the event ends. xp
There was a personal record that let you know how many presents you gave away and another one stating how many gifts were delivered for both Santas, this was my final count and also the final general count:
Looks like the Zurg won this battle, I don't blame Santa, his items weren't as cool as the Zurg's (I heart the lucky star xd ) We still don't know how this will change the outcome of the main storyline so we will have to wait.
Caroling:
Caroling was basically the same as the last time, we went through the NPC stores singing carols, after singing to all 10 storekeepers we received a Christmas 2k6 gift containing one of 8 2k6 spirited items. By the way, almost all the store owners showed their Christmas spirit:
(Rufus didn't showed Christmas spirit, so why bother adding him? rolleyes )
There was also the traditional towns caroling, by going from house to house singing carols by clicking the carol books in front of each house filling a ''Cheer Meter'' as we went by. After filling the meter we received a 2k6 gift as well.
As for the map and town decorations they were the same as last year.
At the end of the year there was also a New Year's Eve ball, but it wasn't anything special, just a forum for the event opened to chat:

And with this we reached the end of the Christmas event, as for the rest of the features this month we had:
- A tagging system to help us find topics easier. - Store item update. - Going postal returned after ages of absence.
- The December 2006 donation items were released (I refused to call them monthly collectibles!), this month the letters came with 3 items instead of 2, so we had the choice between the Elemental hair, the Flame sword and the Winter Rose. The fact whether the future letters will continue holding 3 items or not will be decided by a poll according to the admins.
- And finally the Weekly comics for this month:
There is still no telling how the relation with the Zurg will end, but for the way things have been going it won't be pretty, Gambino tells us they are up to no good, but alien 02's actions during Christmas didn't seemed like a threat, I wonder what they are up to. ninja
To be continued...
