*Yawn*
Many of us probably get bored of Gaia when there is no special events involved or anything big to talk about, August appeared as another boring month were there would be nothing to do except continuing on the same routine. There are always updates and features each month, but they are only exciting at the moment they are released.
However Gaia will never forget what happened as we approached the middle of the month:
The day the Gaia economy ALMOST crashed!
No, it wasn't a special event, if you were there you know what I am talking about. xd
It all started that night of August 14 when a brand new feature called The Daily Chance was released. This feature allows everyone to get a freebie randomly by clicking the randomizer on the top of the page at the sections ''Home'', ''My Gaia'', ''Community'', ''Games'' and ''World'' so we get 5 freebies per day. We can get from simple game items like trash, flowers, bugs and ink to rare valuable items. eek I am not sure if that includes old donation items but it would be cool if it happens. cool My best non-game item so far has been a white baseball cap though, better than nothing. xp
The thing is that this feature didn't worked as the admins planned at first, it was quickly noticed as the marketplace was infested with tons of rares, specially rare fishes and testing items that are not released to the public yet. gonk
The rare fishes from being worth hundreds of thousands of gold dropped dramatically to cheap prices in a matter of minutes. Everyone thought the economy was permanently damaged and many of us weren't happy with these results. Even though some liked the rare fishies being given out so they could get the rare hats without the need of fishing (lazy bastards, fish and earn the gold if you want them evil ) and others because of the dramatic deflation. As a dedicated fisher I was disgusted as well as several others since it was a huge insult to us fishers, but I had my suspiscions of it being all a glitch and in effect it was since there were unreleased items in the marketplace. xp Lots of users even made mules to exploit the glitched daily chance (greedy bastards xp ), to think I have been using this account for so long without the need of making mules.
The admins announced it was a huge error in the new feature and to fix the damage they turned off the feature and started to take away all the rare fishes and unreleased items which I forgot included unreleased flowers too, I had one but they removed it. However not all the items were removed, some people were allowed to keep theirs since they spent gold to get them and they were not going to do a rollback to fix the problem, so it wouldn't have been fair to take their items away without a refund, excluding the test items of course. Some of the users who started to see the day deflation actually appeared to stay inmediately woke up into reality as the damaged was being fixed, sure there were complaints and many ''NOT FAIR!'' posts, but that's the way things are in Gaiaonline today.
The economy was eventually restored, but still there are scars left from the day when the Gaia economy was almost destroyed.....
Hopefully this kind of close calls will never happen again, it was perhaps the most disastrous start for a new feature in Gaia history.
But things are fine now and hopefully they will stay that way. 3nodding
One day after the ACE (Almost Crashed Economy, I made that up xp ) the donation items were released, we got the choice between the angelic microphone and Gwee the dragon, lots of people wanted dragon or dragon items and they got their wish. These items weren't that popular either, but they beat the last month's items in my opinion, *pets his Gwee heart *
Besides the donation items we got:
- Another item update for the stores with the new Gunner, Partition and Squid sets. (Good, we haven't had an item update in a while)
- Gold notification, now under our gold amount we get a message everytime we earn gold and how, except when we sell things. xp Luckily we have the choice of turning it off like the Daily Chance (But who doesn't want free items? xd )
As Halloween approaches everyone begins to expect big things approaching, but we still have to go through September, so let's wait and see what surprises are waiting for us now.
Until next month readers, hope the daily chance bugs didn't traumatized you. xp
Man, I went to sleep with a headache the day the Gaia economy almost crashed.....
*Thunder sound effect*
eek ..........
