Journey through the Realms
Chapter 18:

Evelyn woke up slowly, it takes her a minute to remember she's in Proudspire. Spending time in Solitude was always pleasant. Since speaking with Mora, her dreams have stopped. It's not as constant as before and it no longer leaves her in pain. Which is nice for a change. And after talking to Paarthurnax it makes since as to why she kept seeing the same thing over and over. Death is a powerful emotion, not only that but the part of her that was once dragon saw her nest get burnt and her mate killed. By none other then the Blades so it was no wonder she felt so much anger for awhile. She lets out a deep yawn as she pulls herself out of bed. She wore a simple shirt and some leggings. Her and Artemis had spent the last few days here. Ironing out her plan to deal with Elenwen once and for all. She runs her fingers through her hair a few times as she makes her way downstairs. It's just past morning and only a few days away before the ball. She makes it to the main floor of her home to find Artemis sitting back. Anytime they're not doing anything she finds him reading something. Not that she doesn't have plenty of books to pick from. But to her surprise he's reading The Lusty Argonian Maid. "Artemis, what are you doing?" He scowls slightly the more he reads. "Who reads this garbage?" "Well you for starters..." He glares at her, which she's used to by now. He places the book to the side. "Honestly I don't know why people read that stuff. I was never huge on romance novels. Most are to sappy or it's nothing but sex..."

She shakes her head slightly as she sits down. "But who ever wrote those books had a screw lose or something..." She's not even sure where she got them. She just collects books. "They always seem to come off as unrealistic." But what did she know, she wasn't really that experienced in such things. "I just horde books." "Most dragons horde gold, treasures." Artemis blinks, realizing that she does that too, it's just scattered. "Never mind." She chuckles slightly as she starts to make breakfast for the both of them. He enjoys some warm bread while she does. "As a mage I'm surprised you don't know how to shapeshift." Her head tilts at this. "I think a few people tried. I never looked into it. From what I read some people got stuck and couldn't change back. Or they just lost their minds to the magic." It's not something people study, or understand to well. "Besides I'm kind of happy the way I am, I don't need magic to change myself." "Some mages use magic to change into birds, to get a better view. Or something else like mice, cats even." Her mouth twitches slightly as she sits down with her food. "I'm sure if it was perfected, it could be useful. But honestly I still wouldn't try it..." She would rather use her own abilities she knows will work. "Ever thought of having a familiar?" She gives him a confused look. "A...what?" "Familiar, some mages I knew had those too. There animals you have a magical link to. Some mages find them useful.." "I've....never heard of anyone doing something like that. But then again magic works differently from here and where you're from."

Artemis nods slightly as he bites into his bread. He seems oddly fine with his meal of choice. "You really should look into cooking." He shrugs slightly, he knows some basics, but he's never really put much effort into it. He rather just buy food from a inn, or just let her cook. "It's not that hard, I even have cookbooks." "I read one of them, the one you got from the Gourmet." "Ah yeah, I'd try that first one, but I can't seem to eat cheese. Kind of taste funny.." It wasn't a problem until she got older. After awhile she just couldn't handle eating it, and soon even the smell started to bother her. "Well now it does, milk to." She's gotten used to it by now, but every once in while she misses cheese. "But I can teach you at least the basics so you don't always have to rely on me." He doesn't say anything as he takes another bite out of his bread. "Or you just let me cook because you enjoy it." Still no answer, but he's blushing slightly, which is something new. She holds back a small laugh, but she smiles. "Ah, fine, but we have a long road ahead, still can't hurt." He waves his hand slightly, so she lets it go. This time she does laugh. "Fine then admit you just enjoy my cooking." He holds his ground on not answering her. So she throws a small bit of bread at him. "Stubborn." After while they go outside and sit at her porch. She enjoys the outdoors, the weather, the music. Mostly the music. "I'm surprised you didn't join them." She's a part of everything else that he knows of. "The Bards Collage? As much as I love music, I have no talent for it.."

She scratches the back of her head for a second. "Well that's not true. I remember when I was younger I used to sing. I even knew how to read music. But as I got older I didn't have as much time for it. But I'm still able to remember like...tunes." He gives her a surprised look, but she just gives him an slight smile. "I had some weird hobbies when I was a kid. But my love of anything shiny now makes a hell of a lot more sense now.." He lets out a low chuckle. "I told you of the Crystal Shard didn't I?" She nods her head at this. "We found out the only way to destroy the thing was to use the flames of a powerful dragon. So we wondered into the lair of a red. The thing was huge, his pile of treasures even bigger. We didn't stay long, but I can only imagine what that creature might have hidden. You need a lair." "Hey, I'm not that bad. Besides who needs a lair when I got like, over ten houses to live in?" He leans his head into his hand, rubbing his temple slightly. She pauses slightly as she turns to him. "Oooh, think I should invest in like, a cave. Fill that sucker with pillows, satin pillows, the finest silk...servants." She purses her lips at that then quickly shakes her head. "Nah, I never liked the idea of maids and stuff. I don't need people to handle my undies." Something about the idea of people touching her small clothes gives her a weird vibe. Artemis is giving her a weird look again. "What you telling me you're fine with people washing your underclothes?" He's not even sure if he should even answer that. He normally just takes care of his own needs. "Could we maybe talk about something else?" He really doesn't want to think about her silky underthings. In fact he's been doing everything in his power to not think of what she might look with far less clothes on. It hasn't been working so it's been making it hard to sleep.

He just wants to spend the next few days in peace and keeping his mind off things. Which is easier said then done. Which is why he's been spending so much time reading. It's better then letting his mind wonder. But spending time in Solitude helps, sometimes they just wonder about, walk the docks. He admires the ships, but stays far away from them still. It seemed to drag a bit till it was finally the day of the ball. He thought he'd never be so happy for something so simple. He had picked out a rather nice outfit. It was a dark leather coat, with a tunic that matched. Dark pants and some new boots. He found he could get used to this, but he still likes the armor. He didn't like not having his dagger, but he promised to leave it behind. She wasn't taking her weapons either. She wore a simple, but nice traveling outfit. She felt this was good enough. Those who were invited to the ball, entered the Blue Palace. The ballroom was near the back of the palace. Most of these people she knows and would rather stay far away from. She glances up as Elisif herself walks up to her. "Oh I'm so glad you came. I got your letter and I thought it was a wonderful idea to invite Elenwen. She should be here soon.." The young Jarl blinks as she looks Evelyn over. "Is....that what you're wearing?" Evelyn rises her brow. "Yes, I am an adventurer, I don't really do 'fancy'." Elisif is shakes her head at this. "This is a formal party..." Evelyn lets out a frustrated sigh. "Woman I don't own a dress!" "Alright, come with me, your guest can wait here." Artemis rises his brow, but says nothing as the Jarl takes her away. "Is this necessary?"

He swears he can hear her complain the entire time. Evelyn sighs deeply as Elisif takes her to her room. The Jarl digs a bit, finding a backless dress. Evelyn makes a face at the outfit. "Ma'am, really, I know it's a formal ball, but I'm not comfortable in dresses.." The Jarl ignores her as she holds up a different dress. "Oh it's just one evening, plus your gentleman might like it." Evelyn feels her eyes widen. "Artemis, we just travel together. He's more my body guard." Elisif just smiles as she keeps holding out a dress she found. "Come on~" Evelyn feels a low growl come out. "Fine, you owe me woman." The Jarl just giggles softly as helps the woman into the dress. It was a find outfit that tied in the back. Evelyn had Artemis hold onto the potion she made, just in case. So she was glad for that. Once she was changed, Elisif smiles brightly. "You look lovely~" The dress was a lovely emerald color that seemed to fit her well. That didn't mean she had to like it. "I feel stupid...." She runs her hands over the dress, it hugged her curves unlike most her outfits. Elisif even gives her a pair of shoes to go with it before they head out. Of course Evelyn is slagging behind as they make their way back to the hall leading to the ballroom. Artemis looks up, his eyes going wide. He's never seen Evelyn in a dress before. The light green sleeves cover her arms as the rest of the dress covers her well. But leaving just a bit to show off her womanly curves. Elisif leaves the two of them as Evelyn glares slightly. "Say anything, and I'm using the potion on you..." She's so mad right now it's not funny. He decides the best thing to do is not say a word.

Elisif wasn't joking, everyone is wearing a nice outfit of some kind. Evelyn just huffs as she crosses her arms. She just wants Elenwen to show up and get this whole thing over with. A few people are already dancing. "Evelyn?" She jumps slightly to see General Tullius, dressed in his finest. "General." She bows her head slightly to him as he chuckles slightly. "I never would have imagined seeing you here." She blushes deeply as she looks the other way. "I...mostly came for information. Elisif made me put this on..." He smiles warmly, trying to be as nice as possible. "Well you look lovely..." He stops there because her stare alone scares him just a touch. Hell it was bad enough the Jarl had to see her scars, but at least she was polite enough not to say anything. But she saw the look of sympathy there for awhile. For awhile Evelyn worries that Elenwen isn't going to show up. But after a hour or so, the High Elf finally shows up. Jarl Elisif is all smiles of course, the Jarl thinking this is nothing more then a show of good faith. Evelyn gives Artemis a small nudge as he hands over a small bottle. It fits into her hand perfectly as she grabs a silver goblet and makes her way over to the elf. Elenwen doesn't notice her at first until the woman hands over the offered drink. "I'm glad you came." The elf narrows her eyes a bit until it hits her where she's seen the woman before. Evelyn holds out her hand before the elf could say anything. "Now I know you're angry. I admit I was given some...misleading information." Elenwen is still glaring at her.

"I want us to move forward. As a sign of good faith, I wanted to tell you personally that the last of the Blades are gone.." The elf gives her a surprised look. "I am the Dragonborn after all, the Blades were helping me...to a point. Until we had a slight....disagreement. Now you don't have to believe me, but I think we can create a good partnership. Given I've taken care of a good deal of your problems.." Elenwen slowly takes the goblet as Evelyn takes her own. She rises her cup. "To a new start..." The elf still isn't sure, but they toast and Elenwen takes sip of her drink. Evelyn just watches as he potion takes effect, fast. Her body does stiff and Evelyn catches her. No one is watching as the elf is dragged away. Once hidden, Artemis finds her. "There's a balcony up here." Evelyn smiles brightly, "Perfect!" They head upstairs, it's a simple lay out, it's mostly used as a place to make announcements. No one can see them, which works out for Evelyn. They had scoped out the place as best they could before someone took notice. Artemis hands her a length of rope he had hidden. "Thank you." Evelyn ties the rope to a near by pillar. She then works the rope into a noose. It's not something she's done often, but she still remembers how it's done. "Now, I know you didn't see this coming, maybe you did, hardly matters.." Evelyn smirks at the elf. She can't move, the only thing she can do is breath. Elenwen can do nothing but sit there as Evelyn places the noose around her neck. "Now here comes the fun part, the potion won't last long. That's the good news, bad news is, is that it won't matter. I can control you with just a Shout. I've been testing it out for awhile, it works really well from far away."

If she's learn anything the last few weeks. Is how to use the Bend Will Shout quietly. It took a bit of work, but she found a way. "GolHahDov." Evelyn watches as her shout takes a hold of the elf. She smirks slightly as she turns and heads back to the party with Artemis. Once back onto the dance floor, she turns her head up. By now the potion has warn off. "Now walk..." She waits for Elenwen to slowly walk to the edge of the balcony. It takes a few minutes for anyone to take notice. But when someone does, all she hears is a loud gasp. Soon all eyes are up. Poor Elisif, Evelyn does feel slightly bad for what she's about to do, maybe. Evelyn begins to speak for the elf. "No one make a move, I have made my choice, and wish no interference. The Emperor is gone, and with his death I realize how pointless this has all been. The war, the White-Gold Concordat. The lives lost to the war, and to the Thalmor are countless. Families lost, loved ones, it's all thanks to us. I will apologize to you, young Jarl. But I felt this would be the only time to announce the Concordat is now void. The agreement we made is now useless and my fellow Thalmor will remove themselves from Skyrim. I pray Auriel forgives me.." With that, she steps off the ledge. All Evelyn hears is a loud, crack and a few people scream in panic. The guards rush up the stairs, as well as the good General. But it's to late, it's clear the woman is dead. The guards then start to usher everyone out of the room. Poor Elisif is crying, but her housecarl is holding her close.

Evelyn gives her sympathy to the Jarl. Elisif sniffs but smiles. "Thank you, I had no idea she came to the party for this reason." Evelyn only offers her a shrug. "Guilt is a powerful thing my Jarl. But I am sorry she did...this." She bows her head to her and her housecarl before leaving with Artemis. Once outside she lets out a loud breath of air. "Oh boy, for a second there I didn't think that was going to work. I'm kind of glad I used my time to work out the kinks in that Shout. She almost got free so I cut it a bit short." It was risky, but her plan worked. Now only time will tell what becomes of this. She's so happy she no longer cares she's in a dress. She's skipping down the road, even Artemis stays a few feet behind her. Once back home, she's looking forward to getting changed. She blinks, realizing she left her outfit in Elisif's room. She'll go get it later, as well as return the dress. She makes her way to her room and blinks. She can't reach the tie that holds it together. She can't bend her arm that far back. "Crap..." She bites her lip. "Um....Artemis?" The assassin pokes his head into her room, her face bright pink. "I can't reach the tie..." She feels so foolish as she sits on her bed, her back to him. She tires again. "I don't even know where it is!" For a second she thinks he left because it got quiet. But soon she feels his warm hands on her. She remains still as he tugs at the strings, even moving it down a touch. She's about to move when she feels him lean close, and place his lips on her shoulder. She blinks and turns to him, his eyes dark. Her face got a lot redder at his look.
