Chapter 41:

Sara was glad to see Sanctuary, it had been a long trip and wondered if they would ever make it. Not that she minded her current company. Hancock was a talkative fellow and whenever it was safe they would talk lightly about different things. The minute they reached the cul-de-sac, they felt ten times lighter. Seems they had made it before Nate and MacCready and she could already spot Preston heading their way with Dogmeat. "Good to see you again ma'am." He tips his hat to her as he looks at Hancock. "Hancock.." The Ghoul just gives him a charming smile. "Preston, good to see you my brother, tell me, you got anymore of these uniforms, I might look good in blue." He points to her as she shakes her head. "I keep telling ya, this was the only one, and it's mine now.." Preston lets out a low sigh at this, still wishing Nate had taken it, but it didn't really matter. Dogmeat lets out a soft bark and she jumps a bit. Hancock tilts his head at this. "Don't like dogs?" "S-sorry, it's not that I don't like them, the big ones kind of scare me..." She takes a deep breath as she leans down. Dogmeat sniffs at her and gives her a lick. "Heh, he's not so bad though..." They head in, most of the place had been cleaned up over time. Most of the houses that were still standing were slowly being put back together. Someone had already made a water purifier in the nearby river. She looks up to see Danse and waves at him. "Paladin." He quickly bows his head to her. "Sentinel, ma'am..." She laughs a bit as she smiles warmly. "Relax Danse, I'm just here to help." He rubs the back of his neck. "Right, where's Nate?" She looks back and shrugs. "Should be here soon with that MacCready fellow.."

Piper lets out a hard sigh at this. "Great.." She had been there for awhile, helping out as well. A passing Vertibird lands somewhere near the Red Rocket station. "Ah, that might be him now..." Danse looked far more happier at the idea as she gives him a playful nudge. "Happy to see your boyfriend huh?" He turns a deep shade of red and wonders off as Hancock starts to laugh. "Man today just keeps getting better.." She lets out a small laugh. "Never seen anyone turn that red that quickly..." Preston just shakes his head again and wonders off to go greet Nate. Poor MacCready was a bit shaky after the ride, but he was smiling from ear to ear. "Man that was fun, to think I used to hide from these things when I was a kid." Nate just pats his shoulder as he leads the way to Sanctuary. He smiles when he sees Preston. "Good to see you again General, seems everyone has made it." Nate was glad to hear that. "So Hancock and Sara are here then?" Preston nods at this. "They just got here actually." They enter the small town and Nate smiles when he sees Danse off to the side. He was now inside his power armor, trying to hide. He rolls his eyes a bit and heads off to go see what he missed. Someone had set up a small patio table and some chairs in a cleared out area and Sara was more than happy to sit back. Hancock joins her and looks up at MacCready joins them. "Enjoy your ride?" The young man just lights up. "It was so amazing, you could see the whole Commonwealth for miles!" He plops himself down in a chair and helps himself to a beer someone left out.

It wasn't long before everyone had gathered and just started to chat. It was rather nice as Sturges explained all the work they had gotten down since the last time Nate had been there. It was still odd how he was the only one here with a slight southern accent. Piper just shakes her head at all the big words he kept using as she tries to understand it all. Sara was impressed with all the work they had gotten done. All that was left was some patch work on the remaining houses and making sure they had enough food. They had their own area for growing food, just not a lot of people that were good at farming. But it was progress and finding a passing settler to help with the farming wouldn't be that hard. They just had to make sure they had a safe place for everyone to sleep. Of course finding beds wasn't easy, so they made do with old sleeping bags they had found over time. It was still warmer then nothing. They still had to set up some kind of protection, walls maybe. It would be easy for raiders to attack this place and Preston didn't want to see that happen again after Quincy. Sara was sitting back as she tilts her head. "So that's what happened, so your old place is overrun with raiders?" Preston sighs deeply as he nods, looking down. The whole thing had been a mess. They had lost so many people because the person they relied on decided to hell with it and bail. Sara rises her brow at this. "So what's stopping us from taking it back, I mean from the sounds of it, it'll still make for a damn good settlement and we have the man power to take them out."

Preston wasn't sure about the idea. He had given up the idea of ever going back after losing so many of their people. But Nate nods his head to this. "Yeah, we can clear it out and set up a beacon, get more people out there and make it a proper town again.." Poor Preston hangs his head a bit. "I doubt we'll have the numbers..." Sara places her hand on him. "Hey, you're friends with the Brotherhood, we can help, right Paladin?" Danse was quick to salute her. "Yes ma'am..." He blinks and narrows his eyes at her a bit as she giggles. "Just give use the word, and we'll storm those bastards." MacCready raises his fist at this. "Yeah we'll show those as...jerks a thing or two!" Everyone seemed to be in on the idea as Preston slowly smiles. "Alright, Sturges?" The young man nods his head. "Think or little group will stay put, get more settlers to move in while you're out there saving the day.." The others nodded, the small number of people that had survived, weren't really fighters. "Alright then, you sure the Brotherhood won't mind?" Sara shrugs her shoulders at this. "I doubt it, I think our good Elder wants to keep his promise on helping the Commonwealth.." Nick had been there, remaining silent about the whole thing. The Brotherhood still put him on edge, for good reason, but slowly nods. "Alright, I'm in.." He might as well give them a shot, if they were really willing to change.

Quincy was a bit far, so they would use the rest of the day to get ready. After all the small town had been completely been taken over. It wasn't going to be easy, but they now had the numbers to deal with the invading force. Sara pulls out a signal grenade. She turns to Danse as she smirks at him. "How long before Arthur gets angry we keep using these things?" Danse shakes his head at this. "I hardly think he'll ever get angry when it comes to you.." It was her turn to blush now as she lets out a nervous laugh. "You think?" Nate joins her, they might as well all return to the Prydwen to have a chat with their Elder. Sara throws the grenade and just waits. It wasn't long before a Vertibird shows up and picks the three of them up. They promise to meet near Quincy before taking off. When they got to the Prydwen they went straight for the command deck where Maxson was over looking the Commonwealth. It still surprised her how quickly word got out as he turns to them, his arms behind his back. He was happy as well as surprised to see all three of them as she salutes to him. "Elder." He salutes her back. "Sentinel, you have something to report?" As deeply as he loved her, he would still be the one to remain professional about these sort of things as she turns to Nate. Nate nods at this as he steps forward. "You know that, before I meet the Brotherhood that I was working with the Minutemen. Well my friend, Preston, you remember him." Arthur nods at this, he owed the man a drink after his night at the Castle.

"Well, they had originally came from Quincy, but the place had been completely overrun by raiders. With your permission we would like a small force to help clear the place out and reestablish it as a proper settlement." Arthur rubs his chin as he looks at Nate before looking to Sara. "I think it'll be a wonderful opportunity to help the Commonwealth.." Arthur slowly thinks it over before he nods. "Alright, Paladin Thomson, I'll trust this mission to you and Danse, you know them better then anyone. Gather whoever you need and clear out this settlement..." Nate salutes and leaves as Danse quickly leaves. It was sort of a polite way to tell these two to buzz off so he could talk to her. She gives him a slightly guilty look. "Angry?" He shakes his head as he walks over to her. "Hardly, you have a good heart, so what exactly where you doing out there?" She smiles a bit as she steps closer and soon his arms had wrapped around her. "I was helping Nate gather people to help rebuild his home in Sanctuary." She tells him how they stopped at Goodneighbor and helped MacCready get the cure he was looking for to help his boy. Arthur slowly nods at this as she talks as he tightens his hold on her. He had to hand it to Nate, both of them seemed more then happy to help those that needed it. Maybe it was something Arthur could learn, it didn't always have to end badly after all. Branching out wasn't a bad idea, but it had lead to a lot of problems in the pass. But he was in charge now, so it was time to do something right.

She smiles a bit when he kisses the side of her head. She turns as she looks into his eyes. "So my orders sir?" She smirks at him a bit, his arms still around her as he tilts his head. "You're free to join Nate...raiders shouldn't be that hard to deal with. Or..." He gives her a large smile as he pulls her in, kissing her deeply before letting her go. She blushes a bit as she lets out a low laugh. "You evil man you." He gives her a light shrug, not seeming all that bothered. "As much as I love your offer, I think I'll join Nate. I hate the idea that raiders drove off so many people. It sounds silly I know, but I really do want to try and make the Commonwealth a better place now that the Institute is gone." Arthur just smiles at her warmly, brushing his hand over her cheek. It was moments like this that made him realize why he had fallen so hard for her. "As you wish...just be careful?" She leans in and kisses him lightly. "Of course, now I should get going while I still have the chance. Besides I think your guard is giving me the stink eye." Arthur looks up to see one of his guards quickly turn away. "I'll give them something to look at.." He growls out a bit as she pats his arm. "Later dearest, and with a lot less clothes." She winks at him as heads off before he could stop her. Arthur grumbles a bit as he looks down. He was going to get her back for that, but chuckles. His mouth twitches a bit as he looks down. What was stopping him from joining? His brow rises at this as he turns and heads for his room. He finds his weapon and heads out to join them. After all it wasn't like anyone was going to stop him.

Nate had managed to gather a small number of his fellow brothers and sisters to join the fight. With Sara at his side, they didn't question him much. After all between the both of them, if Arthur wasn't around, she was in charge. No one was going to question that. She blinks when she sees a familiar black coat heading their way as he just rises his gun. "Might as well start putting myself in a more...positive light." Her eyes widen at this. "You're going to join us?" She looks at Nate. He was more then happy to have him join. "If that's what you want sir, you're one hell of a shot with that thing." Danse was surprised, but as he looks at Sara, maybe he shouldn't be that surprised. He had never seen Arthur so happy so of course he wouldn't let anything happen to her. They just got married after all as they file out and head for Quincy. From this moment on, Nate was in charge since he was the one connected to the Minutemen. They find a place some miles outside the town to wait for Preston and the others. It was going to be awhile so they set up a small camp out of sight so no one would know they were hiding out. Hyde Park had become their new base at the moment. It had a small number of raiders, but they were easy to deal with. No one messed with a large number of soldiers in power armor. It was slowly getting dark, it really had been a long day. Some of them had gone inside to get some much needed rest.

They had managed to find a quiet space as she finds an old mattress that had been left behind. Sure it didn't smell right, but again it was better then sleeping on the floor. She props herself up against the wall as Arthur joins her. She had to hand it to him, at least he was trying. Helping others didn't always have to lead to problems. But from what little she new it had caused a bit of a rift among the Brotherhood in the past. She just hoped things could turn out better, there was a lot of good they could do after all. She smiles a bit as he joins her and she leans her head on his shoulder. He just wraps his arm around her as he holds her close. "The future of the Brotherhood...I should hand it to you. I always wondered what I planed to do once the Institute was taken care of." She looks up at him, holding back a yawn. "I know it hasn't been easy Arthur, but sometimes, it's better to lean a hand then become the new villain." He shifts at that, they had already been targeted once by the Railroad. How long would it had been before someone else placed them on their radar. He lets out a deep sigh at this, feeling slightly guilty now for closing himself off the way he did. She blinks as he pulls her onto his lap and she giggles softly. She lays her head on him as he just holds her close to him. "Aww did you miss me, I promise I didn't get into that much trouble...yet."

He shakes his head a this. "You're something else, but that's what I love about you.." She feels herself blushing again as she settles into him a bit. "Arthur?" "Hmm?" Her brows knit together. "What's the date, any idea?" He looks up a bit as he gives it some thought. "The eighteenth..I think.." She nods, it was still so hard to keep track of time in a place like this. Still hard to believe it was December, November just went by like it didn't even exist. She could only imagine they didn't really celebrate Christmas anymore, but she was more then fine with that. "Why?" She blinks at this as she gives him a small smile. "Just trying to keep track, you know, lady stuff." It takes him a minute before he slowly nods, his cheeks turning pink. "Right...that.." She laughs softly, poor thing was still slightly uncomfortable with certain things, but that wasn't a bad thing. "It'll be fine, mother nature is still a jerk but I'll survive." She closes her eyes as he keeps her warm. She loved the feeling of his body, he was always warm. He lays back with her, getting comfortable as she slowly starts to fall asleep on him. He watches her as her breathing slows and he takes a deep breath. He really hoped he was doing the right thing. The whole thing was making him nervous, but maybe he should more trust in his people. After all they were more then happy to come out here and lend a hand it seems so maybe he really had been wrong. He wasn't sure what to really think anymore but he soon yawns and shifts as he too starts to fall asleep.
