Chapter 40:

Returning to the Prydwen was a quiet affair, neither one wanted to break the romantic mood they had set. But Arthur knew that the Brotherhood would need him at some point and set out the signal grenade for them to be picked up. The minute she stepped onto the ship she headed for the medical bay, Cade working quietly as he turns to her. "Ah, Sentinel, good to see you again, let me guess.." She holds out her hands to stop him. "I need your help..." He blinks at this and nods. "Of course ma'am, that's why I'm here." She takes a slow breath, she couldn't believe she was doing this. "I need to know if I can have children." He rises his brow at this, but he nods, quickly understanding. With all the new equipment they had, he might be able to help. If nothing else, she just wanted to make sure it was safe for her to even be thinking about this sort of thing after the hell she went through. The good doctor could at least give her some answers as he takes a small sample of her blood and told her he would give her answers, as soon as he had any. One step at a time. All she could do was wait now and heads off to get some work done. About two days pass when Nate had returned to the ship, Danse oddly missing in action as he smiles and walks over to her. "You busy?" She looks down as she shakes her head. "Not really, what's up?" She gets up from her chair as Nate wonders off somewhere a bit more quiet.

"Danse is in Sanctuary at the moment, trying to get things started over there. I wanted to head to Goodneighbor, but honestly I hate going that route alone." Sara was more then happy to join him as she grabs her weapon. "Sure, but what do you need in Goodneighbor?" He shrugs a bit as they head off. "Honestly I'm just hoping maybe to get more people to help, since he's been a mayor for awhile, that might help get things in order in Sanctuary." She pats his back lightly, he was trying so hard it seems. "Alright, calm down their soldier, lets get a move on shall we?" They would take a waiting Vertibird to the Boston Common and just travel by foot from there. Nate still made sure to stay as far away from the pond as he could. He points to a few broken swan boats and tell her they were apart of a sleeping Behemoth. The thing was huge, from what little she could see under the water. She was more then happy to get the hell out of there. They walk slowly, the most they run into were a few Feral's as they make it to Goodneighbor. Much to their surprise Hancock was waiting for them, with a young man in a yellow duster coat. "MacCready, he's kind of cute up close." He was another favorite of her's he was so, cute and he was a good shot as well. He just tugs his hat to them both as Hancock turns to him. "This is my good friend RJ." He holds out his hand to them both. "Most people just call me by my last name MacCready." She shakes his hand, his hand was so tiny, but rough as she lets him go. "Always a pleasure.." Hancock tilts his head as he takes a hold of her hand, letting out a low whistle. "That's some rock you go there sister."

She pulls her hand away as she smiles. "I got married, long story.." She watches the ghouls eyes widen then he lets out a low sigh. "Damn, the pretty one's are always spoken for." She shakes her head at him. "Can we move on?" Nate laughs a bit. "Right, we came here for a reason, but it seems you were waiting for us." Hancock leans his head back as he smiles. "Right, RJ it's on you brother.." The poor man blushes as he looks down. "I don't..I mean you sure?" Hancock nods at this. "These are good people, I swear." It seems to take him a minute. "My boy, Duncan..see he's sick, and the only cure, is in Med-Tek Research. Thing is I tried to go in there before, but the place is crawling with Feral's..." He tightens his fist at this. He was so close to helping his boy, and the only thing stopping him were a bunch of radiated zombies. Sara nods her head at this. "I'm in." Nate nods his head as well, he couldn't stand seeing another parent lose their child. "I'm in, we'll come and help you get that cure..." She see's RJ's eyes light up at this, she could swear he was close to hugging them both. "Oh..thank you..." Nate brings up his Pip-Boy and takes a look at the map he had. "Let's see, Med-Tek, I think I remember the place, it's rather far from here.." Sara rises her brows at this. "We can always get a lift.." Nate turns to her. "I don't..oh who am I kidding, you common half the Brotherhood now." She just wiggles her brows at him. "Jealous?" Nate shakes his head as MacCready gives her a surprised look. "I thought some..Elder fellow ran the Brotherhood?" "Elder Maxson, yes, he named me his Sentinel." Hancock looked impressed. "I gotta hand it to you sister, you certainly know the right elbows to rub.." "That's not all I'm rubbing." Her back handed comment made RJ blush as Hancock sits there stunned.

Nate just covers his face. "Oh my God..." Sara just laughs softly as she shrugs her shoulders. "Sorry, not sorry, so lets get the show on the road.." Poor RJ was just hiding his face now as they head out. She rises her brow as Hancock follows. "You're coming too?" The ghoul shrugs his shoulders. "Already had a talk with the town, and you wanted to have a chat with me anyways." He turns his dark eyes to Nate as he nods at this. "Sure, but we might want to walk, the Brotherhood is..slowly getting used to the new rules.." There was no need to push their luck as she groans. "Fine, looks like we're walking, lets go boys." They turn as they start to head north. Nate took the lead, since he was the only one with a working map as RJ and Sara walk a few steps behind and Hancock walking next to Nate. "Thank you again, for this, I was starting to think I would never have enough caps to hire anyone to join me.." He kicks at a nearby rock. "No worries, I'm not asking for any caps for this.." Nate nods at this as he smiles. "Same, I was a father once...I know what it's like to lose your son.." Sara gives him a sad look as RJ goes quiet. "Oh sh...shoot I'm so sorry, how...?" "The Institute had kidnapped him. By the time I found him, I was to late to really do anything about it." MacCready slowly nods at this, feeling bad now for the poor man. "I just want to do right by Lucy.." Sara turns head at this. "Lucy?" "Oh..my wife...she was killed by Feral's...about two years ago...I couldn't save her, but I managed to save our son.." Sara places her hand on his back. She already knew the story, but she had to act like she had no idea. "Sorry for your loss, but, hey you still got your kid out there."

He lets out a low huff. "Yeah some father I turned out to be, Duncan is sick and it took me ages just to get this far.." Sara shakes her head at him. "Don't be so hard on yourself, you're still a damn better father then my own." Hancock nods his head as he tips his hat. "Same.." Nate lets out a low chuckle. "Mine was a blind drunk that killed himself." They all go quiet at this. "Man we're depressing people." Sara points out as Hancock laughs at this. "Don't I know it sister, so if you don't mind my asking, who did you get hitched to?" Sara looks up for a moment as she smiles at him. "Take a wild guess." Hancock rises what used to be a brow before he looked a bit shocked. "You married the man in charge?" She nods her head at this and he lets out another whistle. "Damn sister, that's some power craving you got.." RJ just shakes his head at this as they walk. "I remember the Brotherhood from the Capital Wasteland, I never did trust them. But I have heard a few good things. So there's that I guess..." It took them several hours to reach the large medical building. They had only stopped a few times to eat and rest before moving on. Sara sees something move as she pulls out her gun. Something pulls out from under a car and she hits it's head. "Feral's..." More start to stumble out at them and they had to carefully aim at the Feral's, and not the cars. But Sara gets an idea. "Everyone duck." She pulls out a grenade, she always made sure to carry a few of them.

She throws it in between a few cars and they make a run for it. The mass explosion takes out the Feral's at least as Hancock starts to laugh. "Please tell me you got a sister out there.." Sara just shakes her head. "Nope, I'm one of a kind, sorry." They head inside and she could only hear more ghouls inside. "F*ck.." She whispers softly as RJ nods at this. "I second that now in order to get into where they might have the cure I need to find the terminal. To override the shutdown." They nod and slowly head out, killing any Feral's they came across. They moved slowly since most of the place was falling apart. She blinks when she comes across an old battered comic book. "Aw man, couldn't be one I liked.." RJ was at her side in seconds. "Ohh, I read this one, it's..um.." His face goes red as she lets him have it. "Be my guest.." He stuffs it into his coat as he pulls out his rifle again. "You read comics?" She lays her arm on his shoulder. "Oh you have no idea." Hancock shakes his head at this. "Great, more nerds.." "Hey...shut up." She points her finger at Hancock and he just chuckles at her. They make their way upstairs and RJ hands over the password to Nate. He wasn't good with computers after all, and he couldn't handle the idea of it not working. Nate gets in and RJ was so overjoyed. All they had to do now was go back downstairs. He was so close to the cure now. "Hang in their Duncan, I'm coming." They made their way farther inside, only to run into more Feral's of course. It was no wonder one person couldn't handle a place like this, they would get overwhelmed in seconds.

They made it to what looked to be a closed off testing room. She sees something move behind the glass, and it was glowing. Nate heads for the terminal to get them inside. "Weapons loaded, there's a Glowing One in there." RJ sees it and frowns as he picks up his rifle. "I'm ready..." Hancock picks up his own gun. "Same here, we'll show it a thing or two." Nate gets the door open and the Feral's quickly swarm after them. Sara keeps herself steady as she fires, killing as many as she could before the Glowing One stepped out. The moment it did, she felt sick to her stomach. This thing was dangerous as she gags a bit. "Oh God, we need to kill this thing fast.." Nate felt the same way as he quickly fires at the Ghoul. It lets out a loud shriek as it's explodes a nauseous green gas. Sara loses what little she had in her stomach as Hancock had to take the lead to kill it. Even RJ was holding his stomach as he quickly pups a few Rad-X pills. He made sure to share some and they slowly started to feel better. They enter the room slowly as they look around. There on the table was a single vile. Sara picks it up and holds it out to RJ. "I think this is it.." He jumps up and runs to her side as he takes it. "Yeah, this has to be it, we should get this back to Goodneighbor." He smiles wide as they turn and slowly head out. It was late at night as she gets an idea. "We're close to that listening post, we should camp there.." Nate blinks at this and nods. "Hey yeah, good idea.." Honestly she felt like s**t now as they made it to the post safely. It was quiet there so they wouldn't have to worry about keeping an eye out. "When morning comes I'll use a signal grenade to get me and Mac to Goodneighbor."

RJ blinks at this as he places his back against the wall. "We can walk, I'm not going to leave Hancock behind." The two of them had been friends since the moment he entered the town. RJ had a good amount of respect for the Ghoul and Hancock was just happy for an extra gun around. "You do whatever you need too RJ." Hancock goes into his coat for a hit of Jet as he takes in a good poof and holds it out. Sara just shakes her head at this as well as Nate. RJ had no interest either as he just pulls out a normal cigarette and starts to smoke. It was so quite down below, but it was safe as Sara picks a spot and lays her head on her bag. Hancock takes another hit of his jet. "Besides, it's important to get that to Daisy as quickly as you can." RJ lets out a low sigh, but nods. "Alright..." Sara raises her hands. "I'll walk with him, make sure he stays out of trouble, head for Sanctuary and you two can just catch up." Nate turns to her at this. "You sure..what about...?" She blinks a bit as she sits up, realizing she left without telling Arthur a damn thing. "F*ck...wait hang on.." She gets up and heads for the back, where Danse had been. There was still a working terminal down there as she gets it booted up. Lucky for her, Arthur was in his room when his terminal beeped at him and he rises his brow. More so when he saw the message had come from Listening Post Bravo of all places, but he opens the message.

"Arthur, I'll keep this sort and simple. I'm here with Nate on our way to Sanctuary. We had to make a few stops first. Will tell you the rest later, much love, Sara. P.S before you freak out everything is fine, will see you soon~" He blinks at the simple message, wondering what her and his new Paladin were up to. But he shakes the thought aside, he trusted her, he'll just have to wait, or make a trip to the place himself to see what was going on. He would go that route, but would wait till morning because it was never a good idea to go out at the dead of night with little to no lighting. Still he hated having to turn in that night alone. Took him forever to relax and go to sleep. The minute it was morning Nate throws out a signal grenade as Sara and Hancock made their way to Sanctuary. Oddly enough she didn't mind the long walk, at least now she was feeling better after that damn Glowing One. She never did like those. Hancock just smiles as he walks with her, popping a few pills along the way. "I have to ask, just what are Mentats, what does it do?" He gives her a rather wicked smile. "Why want to try one?" She narrows her eyes at him a bit. "No." He shrugs as he laughs. "Fair enough, the ones I have to help sharpen your mind a bit. Keep you on your toes.." "So as a Ghoul, you wont become addicted?" He shakes his head at this. "Nope, still feel the high though, which is great. All the drugs I want, none of the side effects you dig?"

She lets out a low laugh as they walk. She liked Hancock as well. He was always so laid back and never judged you for how you lived. As long as you helped people, he didn't care. "So is there anything out there you haven't tried?" Hancock gives it some thought. "There was this pre-war drug I read, some kind of weed.." She lets out a low snort. "Marijuana...I grew up in California, that s**t was everywhere. And yes I had a few stoner friends..and no I never tried it, but I had thought about it.." His eyes just seem to light up. They reminded her of a fresh brew of coffee. "Damn sister, you should hook me up, you're holding back on me.." She only laughs more as she shakes her head. "I doubt it's still around now, I'm a lot older then I look you know..." He tilts his head at this, she had to be pulling his leg. "You can't be that old, you're like what...twenty?" She hangs her head at this. "Boy are you off..." Hancock goes quiet for a bit. "Seventeen?" "No, God, you went lower!" He looked surprised as he leans back. "Twenty-seven?" He was just going to keep guessing and she sighs. "I'm thirty-two, you dingus." He stops dead in his tracks as his jaw drops. "What's your secret?" "Good luck, and a lot less drugs sugar." She winks at him as she keeps walking. He lets out a good chuckle as he follows after her. "You're something else, I like that." She gives him a small pat. "Of course you do, your high as f*ck, now lets get going.." He just tips his hat to her and they keep on walking.
