Chapter 21:

Over the next few days Sara was finding it hard to sit still. It was only a matter of time before Liberty Prime would finally be completed. Once all it's parts were in place, she knew Ingram would need to send out Nate to go fetch the Nukes the robot used as it's weapon. It was like watching a play fold out before her, and she had no control. Still maybe she would have some sway over the choice Maxson makes. After all there did seem to be some reason to her being here. Even if she still wasn't sure. She had been given a back jump suit to wear for the day. The uniform was a bit tight, but it would allow her to bend a bit easier as she worked. Though she had to admit the tight outfit left little to the imagination. She was just lucky most the people here knew better then to stare. Mostly after word got out on what Knight Veris had tried. Still as she wipes a bit of oil off her cheek, they were almost done. So when the time came to report to Maxson, she didn't waste any time. She knocks at his door as she waits for him to tell her to come inside. She enters his room to see a large gun on his table. His weapon of choice, the Final Judgment. He had been expecting the weapon and it pleased him to see it had finally been completed. She closes the door as he turns, he didn't hide how his eyes roamed over her for a split second. "What do you have to report?" She tries to wipe away what was left of the oil that had gotten on her. "Liberty Prime is almost up and running. It won't be long until it's complete. Ingram says the only thing we might need are it's Nukes, which she was looking into and..um.." Sara looks up as she tries to remember what it was called. "The Beryllium agitator...I think, I don't know I might be saying that wrong..." She mostly likely was, but she'd try and get it right as best she could.

Maxson looked pleased as he steps forward. "Good, any idea where Ingram might be looking into to find the Nukes?" Sara shakes her head. "Not yet, but she thinks there might be a bomb storage facility located somewhere within the Glowing Sea. Just gotta figure out where. Can't just wonder about a place like that aimlessly.." She shifts a bit, maybe she should had cleaned up first, her hair was still tired up but she felt like a mess. "All in all once she has it figured out Paladin Dance and Knight Thomson will head out, I think they'er already working out the details." He smirks at this. "Fantastic, we're finally making strides to making our way into the Institute, I'm already making plans to remain here and make this airport into a proper base of operations." She just nods her head to this. "I think that's a great idea, after all there's no guarantee the war will end with the Institute. After all it's impossible to know how many synths they have roaming out there undetected..." "Exactly the idea Knight, though the fight won't be as dire at least." Still with any luck the data they had would give them some idea who to look for, and how many had been set lose into the Commonwealth. She turns her eyes back to his weapon. "Is that yours sir?" He smiles brightly and nods, showing it to her. "My pride and joy, the Final Judgment, it was a work in progress, but it was well wroth the wait.." She lets out a small laugh as she nods. "Kind of reminds me of those Fat Mans. The weapon that just screams, for when you absolutely have to make sure that thing over there stays dead..."

Maxson couldn't help but let out a good laugh as he sets it back down. This thing was huge, but the guy had a way of making it look like it was light as a feather. "You make that look so easy to carry." He just rolls his shoulders at this. "It's not as heavy as it looks." She lets out a low hum at that. "Mmm-mmm sure." He steps closer as he looks her over. "I see you made a change in uniform." Sara looks down a bit. "Oh right, I was working with some..dangerous stuff, the other uniform was to bulky so they gave me this..." She blushes a bit as she looks down. "I honestly don't know how you get used to them." "You manage, they do serve a propose after all.." His eyes were still drinking her in a bit. She just gives him a sly smirk. "Oh I see, last time my checked my eyes were less south then where you're looking." He lets out a nervous cough as he looks to the side. It was amusing to see how fast he became bashful. It was still interesting to see him in such a different light outside of just being a massive jerk. "It's fine..though I should had cleaned up first, I think I got oil..just about everywhere.." She winces as she lets out a small chuckle. "Guess it's better then grease...man that got everywhere. I hated having to clean our grills when no one had done it in awhile, because half of it would just be caked in hard grease." She shutters at the memory. "And the smell was awful." She didn't mind getting down and dirty, but that was by far the worse she had to deal with. "Nothing like the smell of old meat to start your day!" He shakes his head at her. "You seem un-bothered by all this.." "What, getting dirty, you're talking to the girl that liked to play in dirt, I think I'm used to it..."

He places his hand on her, clearing away some of the mess on her face. She just smiles at him slightly. "I've done so much worse then this I don't think it really bothers me anymore...plus I kind of like the smell of oil.." He rises his brow at this. "Yes I'm odd, tell me something I don't know.." Maxson wasn't sure what else to really say. But he was already forming a plan on what he wanted to do. "I want you to join me, during our final assault against the Institute." That surprised her a bit as she leans her head to the side. "You want me to tag along. Sure might as well see this to the end and give those bastards what for.." She rises her fist to the air. "I should really learn to stop swearing, but I think over the years my filter broke.." Maxson rolls his eyes a bit. "Oddly I find myself agreeing with that statement, the Institute has had control over the Commonwealth for far to long.." Sara nods her head along with this. "I try not to think about it to much, it kind of makes my skin crawl on how bad the damage is when it comes to the Institute..." She looks up to see that he was only standing an inch away from her once again. "I hope you plan to stay with us even after this is over with." She crosses her arms at him. "Last time I cheeked, I'm still not going anywhere, besides what other job lets me use power armor?" His eyes narrow just slightly. "I see, your just in it for the armor?" She wiggles her brows at him. "Hard not to when you got this in your storage." She jesters to the skin tight suit she was in. "Plus I don't see you complaining about it."

He places his hand on her hip as he pulls her against him. "Not in the slightest..." He really wanted to help her unzip that suit, but he keeps his hands away for now. "Well okay then, besides I rather enjoy the perks of getting you all flustered. It's far to amusing watching you blush, it's adorable." He lets out a low growl at this. "I am far from adorable..." She pats his cheek lightly. "You keep telling yourself that tough guy, don't worry your secret is safe with me.." She looks to see she got a bit of oil on him as she looks down a bit. "Err sorry, I really should go clean up, before I end up getting oil all over the place.." He badly wanted to say to just use his shower, but he knew it would be a bad idea. "Very well, I trust you'll return..." The man was still full of surprises as she nods. "You bet, I promise to return, a lot less messy and, maybe in something less tight. Other wise I won't be the only one dealing with tight clothes." She throws him a wink and heads out, swaying her hips along the way. He doesn't look away as he lets out a hard cough. Damn that woman, he needed to sit down, and fast, lest someone see him in this state. It takes her awhile to clean up, oil was a pain to get out with as little soap that she had. She would have to try and get something better at some point. Maybe she would have enough time to visit Diamond City. Once she was sure she was looking at least more clean she returns to his office, wearing a different outfit. She had managed to get a old flannel shirt and some decent looking pants.

Teagan tried to talk her into a dress, she told him to stuff it up his back side. It would still be a cold day in hell before she ever considered the idea. Once back in Maxson's office she takes a minute to actually look around. It was such a small personal space. "I gotta ask, why the couch?" Maxson looks as she renters his room. "Honestly, I don't recall where that came from, or why it ended up here.." She flops down on it as she sits back. She was surprised how soft it was, if not a bit dusty. She lets out a small cough. "Yeah I can tell you don't use it much.." She slides over as he joins her, handing her a glass. She wasn't to sure what he was offering, but she takes it. Whatever it was, it had a kick to it and she ends up coughing again. "Holy s**t you trying to get me blind drunk, or just blind?" Maxson chuckles at this as he takes the glass back. "My apologize, I didn't think that would be that strong.." She shakes it off a bit. "It's okay, in all honesty I don't really drink that much, just every once in awhile..I know for a fact I come a long line of alcoholics so I try not to over do it you know?" He was a bit surprised, but found he could respect that about her. She knew her limits, most had a hard time drawing that line. She ends up moving closer to him and soon she was leaning her head on his shoulder. He wraps his arm around her and lets her get comfortable. He could get used to this, it was oddly relaxing he soon realized. She kind of liked how he always seemed to smell like a mix of whisky, cigar smoke and something else. She was quickly started to enjoy it.

It was a relaxing kind of quiet as they just seem to enjoy the moment. His mind was already working a mile a minute, but for now he would keep his plans to himself. She decides to dive in a bit more about her old job. After all she had an endless supply of stories to spill out. "Oh.." She turns as she places her hand on his chest. "So, remember how I was telling you I got used to cleaning and such right? Well, uh that time we cleaned behind the stove. There was a time before that where they hadn't done in...I don't know how long. But it was bad, like, we could had been shut down for it. So a friend of mine, he goes in to clean it. He had to be sent home after because he was just covered, in old grease, like, head to toe I felt so bad for the guy.." He holds her close as he looks down at her. "What is grease?" He wasn't to sure he wanted to know. "Oh it's...just a natural oil that comes from cooking meat, mostly frozen meat sense we had to keep it...'fresh'." She was going to explain this as best she could. "It wasn't easy keeping that thing working, it burnt out more times then I can count. But the one thing I really hated was how small it was..." Her whole body goes tense. "It was so bad once I had to ask someone else to go in there for something we needed because for the life of me I couldn't go in there and not start feeling like the walls were closing in.." He tightens his hold on her a bit. "Sounds claustrophobic.." "It was and I hated it, that and the floor was always slippery, it was always a hassle I swear."

She lets out a low sigh, he didn't seem to mind having her where she was. "Aside from that I learned just about everything and even managed to become a crew trainer. It wasn't much but at least I had some hand in teaching the young ones: Hey, your doing that wrong!" Maxson hadn't kept his eyes off her, even if he couldn't see her face. "I suppose that explains your ability to lead those around you.." She feels herself blush as she slowly looks up at him. "Heh, I suppose you have a point, I guess I just never realized. Who knew I'd be a natural..." She could feel his hand slowly rubbing her arm, she didn't mind that much. He was just getting used to this, and he found how easy it was to do so. She shuffles close as she turns her head back against his shoulder. The last few days of hard work slowly starting to catch up on her. He doesn't seem to mind as she wraps both her arms around him and closes her eyes. She couldn't even begin to remember the last time she had fallen asleep with someone at her side. A part of her didn't want to think back to that. She lets out a tired laugh. "On a side note, I have a list of reasons why people got mad at me..." "You made...a list?" She lets out another laugh. "You bet, lets see people got mad at me for, price changes, food items that were no longer available for one reason or another, but the top was when our shake machine was down..." Maxson tilts his head back. "I'm not sure I know what that is..." "It's a cold drink, mostly made with milk, and flavoring, I used to enjoy them back when I was able to drink them." She missed them every once in awhile, mostly the chocolate shakes. "I had one dude get like, supper pissed at me and started asking me why it was broken and s**t. I may know how to fix some things, but not that, but seriously, calm your s**t man.."

She was slowly starting to fall asleep on him. So she was trying her best not to, "It never failed though, this thing was a hunk of junk, why we kept it I'll never know, but people enjoyed it.." She feels Maxson shift a bit as he leans back with her. "Didn't stop people from acting like a bunch of raving loons every time it pooped out on us." She was slowly failing at keeping herself awake. Her eyes were already closed and soon she just goes quiet. He hadn't noticed at first, but when her breathing had evened out he knew. He wasn't sure what he should do. He could move, but he didn't want to risk waking her. He also didn't want to risk her staying in his room because there was no doubt in his mind his guards would take notice. Maybe he was tired, maybe deep down a part of him could care less. So he ends up kicking off his boots and lays back with her, stretching out on the couch. There was just enough room for the both of them as long as he kept a good hold of her. And at the moment, letting go was the farthest thing on his mind. She settles against him quickly as she nuzzles into his chest. He could feel his heart pounding, but he was slowly starting to enjoy this. It still put him through a loop how different she was. A true survivor against the hell a place like this could throw at a person. He slides his hands over her, resting them on her back as he slowly falls asleep. He had never shared his space with another person before. But he quickly decides it was something he could change in the future as long as things kept working to his favor.

Sleep hit her like a rock, she doesn't even remember doing so. Whatever she was curled up against was warm and she enjoyed the feeling. Morning came far to quickly, just like clockwork she wakes up slowly. It takes her a minute to remember where she was, until she jumps a bit to see Arthur hadn't moved from her side. With his back against the seat of the couch. His arms were wrapped tightly around her to make sure she didn't end up falling. Knowing her luck she would had done so. If she wasn't holding onto something, she often moved around far to much. Good to see she didn't end up kicking him, because she had done that as well by mistake. She doesn't move however as she watches him. He was sound asleep still judging by the ease his chest would move up and down. She had never seen him look this peaceful before. It was still hard to believe the man before her was only twenty. It was still slightly unfair how much he had gone through. He moves, pulling her closer to him as he slowly wakes up. She finds herself looking into his eyes, giving him a sheepish smile. "Heh...mornin', and I thought I liked to cuddle." He lets out a low laugh, slowly waking up. "I think I can get used to waking up like this..perhaps just not on the couch.." She couldn't hide a small giggle as she hides her face. God help her this man was far to smooth for his own good. "Oh my God I am a bad influence on people..." He wasn't going to argue the point.
