Insane stories of a McDonald's employee
Just some stuff that's happened in the last few years I've been working. As well as other things
Into the Fallout.
Chapter 10:

Sara grumbles to her self as her and Ingram get to work. They cleared out a bunch of old chairs for their work space. This old entry way was perfect to build the Relay. They were starting with the Reflector platform. The base that would hold the Molecular Beam Emitter in place. Now she was willing to admit when she first did this quest, she had no idea how it all fit. But after a small walk through and several times playing, it made sense now. That didn't change the fact doing it by actual hand was a pain in the a**. Ingram was helping of course. But they had to make sure the circuitry was connected right. One false move could fry Nate, or worse. They would save the console for last since they couldn't build it without the scanner. Sara tightens a few things and sighs, she wasn't sure how long they had been working on this thing, but it was done. Ingram runs her hand over her forehead, clearing off the sweat. Not that it was hot, but with all the hard work, it built up a good sweat. Even Sara had removed the log sleeved shirt of her uniform. She was still in a normal white t-shirt, which she still had no idea where she got it. She takes a breath as Ingram passes her a bottle of Nuka-Cola. "Thanks.." Sara downs the soda, finding that, it didn't taste that bad. The few hours of game play gave her time to put points to allow her to down food without worry of radiation poisoning. She should be thankful she bothered, it seemed to be saving her butt right about now. Ingram watches with passing interest. "I don't think I've ever seen anyone down a drink that fast..." Sara blushes a bit as she just smiles. "I was thirsty?" She chuckles a bit as she runs her hand through her hair.

She had managed to find a hair tie. So she quickly ties it back into a small bun to get it out of her face. Something she learned after so many years of working as a cook. As they took their small break, Ingram looked at the prints to make the Molecular Beam Emitter. They might need a bit more help with this, and looks up. Neither one of them had any idea how long it would be before Paladin Danse and Nate would return. So she turns to the Relay Dish, that would be more easy to deal with. "I'll be back, just need to get more scrap metal." Ingram turns to head for the storage area of the airport. Since she was the one in the power armor frame, she took heavy duty lifting. As she waits, Sara fans herself for a moment before looking back to the platform. She gives it a small tap, knowing it would hold together. "I see some progress has been made." She jolts up to see Maxson, giving her an odd look. She stands straight as she gives him a salute. "Sir...um..yes we just finished the platform, everything is wired and ready to go. Just wanted to make sure it held..." She lets out a small cough, now he was just being sneaky. "Ingram left to go grab more metal, since Paladin Danse and Nate haven't returned yet, we decided to move ahead and make the Relay Dish, since there's no point on starting the Control Console without the scanner..." She taps her chin in thought. "Though it can't hurt to start the base, but...ehh maybe it can wait this goes beyond what I'm used to messing with." She was starting to get nervous, what was taking Ingram so long?

Maxson looks at the platform, he wasn't sure what to think, but it looked sturdy at least. "I just hope this works, I never thought we would even get this far into finding a way into the Institute." He was more talking to himself at the moment as he places his hands behind his back. She watches him for a moment before she speaks. "Why do you think they do it...?" Maxson turns his head to her as he rises his brow at her. "Replace....people I mean...it just seems so....risky..." Maxson feels his shoulders drop a bit as he shakes his head. "I don't think those...monsters have a reason, they have the technology to make these machines. So they think they get to play God." The very idea angered him, plus the fact they seemed to do it so, easily. "Imagine, if they use that technology, to replace someone in power, the world goes into a whole new war, and I fear it'l be one no one could ever recover from..." Sara found it hard not to look at him in awe at the moment. He made a good point but she had never heard him voice that fear before. Her brows knit as she watches him. "You don't think they'd aim for the Brotherhood....do you?" He seems to freeze at this as he gives her a sharp look. He was about to say something. But how easy would it be to replace the Elders in the other branches. The ones he had no control over? "Then we just have to make sure that doesn't happen, won't we Knight?" His voice was cold, but she got the point. "Yes sir.." Ingram returns with a large crate as she sits it down. She lets out a small sigh as she shakes her head. "This should be enough to make the Relay Dish." Sara takes a look as she nods. "Looks good, and some of the steal isn't to badly damage, this should work.."

Ingram looks up as she spots Maxson, she sees the odd look on his face. She wasn't sure what to make of it. Sara stands as she turns back to Maxson. "It shouldn't take to long to make the Relay Dish, hell with any luck we could finish this by the time it gets dark.." She turns to Ingram. "Well that is if your a night owl like me..." Ingram lets out a low sound. "You kidding, I don't think I know what sleep is anymore..." Sara looks up as she nods, her own sleeping habits haven't changed much. "And there you have it, we'll keep working as long as we can sir." Maxson seems to take a minute before he says anything. "Just don't burn yourselves out, continue your work..." He glances at Ingram for a split second before leaving to return to the Prydwen. Ingram had known Maxson for sometime now, this, outlook was different from what she normally saw. She just shrugs however, there was an heavy air of stress that was hard to ignore with this project. Just as they were finishing the dish Nate and Danse finally showed up. It had taken them some time to go through the hospital. In the end they picked up what they thought would be useful. Among them was the scanner and Sara smiles at this. "Perfect, then we can work on the console." She turns to Danse as she gives him the proper salute. "Paladin, good to see you again." He smiles at her warmly. "Knight, you two got a lot of work done in one day." Ingram just shrugs as she lights up a cigarette and takes a puff. "We got the basics set up, but we'll need help building the Molecular Beam Emitter." Sara nods at this as the Paladin shuffles in place. "Then I'll help where I can." Nate pats his back as he chuckles. "Same, even if I have no idea what to do. I've never been good with technology...hell when Nora bought a Mr. Handy robot, she was the one to put it together.."

Sara lets out a good laugh at this, poor guy. "Don't worry, I'll show you what needs to be done. If nothing else it's mostly just setting up the frame we'll need help with, so having an extra body of power armor will help." She nods her head to Danse and it clicks when he needed to do. "Understood, we'll get to work first thing in the morning.." It was slowly getting darker, and the rad-storm left behind a thick layer of clouds making it darker. "We should cover this stuff just in case it rains, we don't want anything to get ruined." Ingram nods at this as they get what little they made inside the terminal building. At least the part that still had a roof over it before calling it a night. The area around them had some lighten, but with the coming storm it just made things darker then normal. So it was just best to cut their losses and not chance anything getting caught in the storm. Once on the Prydwen Danse makes his way to Maxson's room and knocks lightly. "Enter." Danse steps in to see Maxson standing over his terminal. Maxson turns his head and stands straight when he sees Danse. "Paladin, I trust you found that scanner." Danse salute to Maxson. "Yes sir, it's been delivered as promised. I volunteered to help with the Molecular Beam Emitter." He hoped he was getting that right. "We'll continue work tomorrow, weather holding of course sir..." Maxson looks up at this, another storm, must just be an after effect of the rad-storm. They could use some fresh water after that. "Good work Paladin, you helping is acceptable, we need all the hands we can get. Even if this goes beyond even our knowledge."

Danse watches him for a moment. He seemed a bit more on edge then normal. Was he nervous about this mission? It had been many years since he's seen Arthur so worked up. However Maxson doesn't seem to notice the worried look his friend was shooting him. "I may need to remove Ingram to make the network scanner we need to plant into the Institute. But Knight Hagen will be enough..." Danse listens closely as he speaks before stepping in. "Sir...no Arthur...are you, you seem really troubled..." Arthur seems to snap at this. "You do not speak out Paladin, I am not finished, there's so much work, so much can go wrong. We still need to see if we can't locate Li in there and hope she returns to work on Liberty Prime. Not to mention how Knight Thomson will be able to return, if at all...." He tightens his fist at this. "But we have to send him, sending anyone they might recognize as Brotherhood would fail this mission." Danse remains silent through his rant. Arthur was stressed, it was easy to see that. His mind turning to all the negative outcomes that could come from this. It wasn't like they ever tried to pull something like this off. Their work was always dangerous, but this could be costly. Not to just them, but to the entire Commonwealth. "So then why does it feel like he's hiding something?" Danse takes a minute to speak. "I'm sure things will go fine..Knight Hagen and Proctor Ingram have it covered. I haven really gotten the chance to work with this new knight outside of our mission to Fort Strong, but she seems capable." Danse watches Arthur, and for just a small second, something seems to flash in his cold eyes. Danse had only seen that look once. "Arthur likes her, but he has no idea what to do about it. So he's stressing himself out over everything else."

After what happened with the Lyons hurt him more then he let on. It wasn't easy for Arthur to give in to anything other then his work as the Elder. Danse still had to be careful however, knowing how Arthur's mind worked well enough. He was far to stubborn to ever admit such a thing, ever. No matter the cost, he was the type to take things to his grave so to speak. "Well, I've taken enough of your time Elder." He was using his professional voice. Maxson just waves his hand as he goes back to his terminal. He had a small window here, Danse takes it. "For...what it's worth sir, you should give it a chance...throwing yourself into your work, won't chance anything. But I know you, you'll try it anyways, good night Arthur." Danse leaves the room after that and Maxson feels his grip tighten. Deep down he almost hated how well Danse could read him. Had he slipped, or was Danse more prospective then he thought? He lets out a low growl at himself as he sits himself back into his chair. As the Elder, he felt he should punish himself for even considering, anything outside his work. He had no time to think about anything else. Relationships were nothing more then a casualty. At least that's what he had been able to convince himself over the years. Maybe he was just far to young and inexperienced to really understand any of it. There was no rule against relationships, hell if nothing else over the years, after his parents met it was encouraged. But what the hell did he know, he could hardly remember them anymore. Just a faded memory to far to grasp. But as he sits there, a faint voice echos his mind.

"They disowned me..." He remembered that look on her face as she told him of her past. All that pain, and numbness she had dealt with. The loss of her own self worth, the people meant to protect her, knocked her so far down she almost did the unthinkable. Did that make him any better? Did not knowing his parents save him from the unknown? "Did they even care, or was it just to bring in a new 'Maxson' into the fold?" That question alone left him awake as a young boy. The older he got, the more he wondered if he was just the outcome of the Brotherhood wanted to continue his family line. His greatest-great grandfather started this organization. He was the last of that line, and it was left open on wither or not he would change that. He closes his eyes as he leans his head against his hands. He leaned against his desk as he sat there. Did he want that, for himself? It wasn't like anyone was pressuring him into that role. He had to be completely honest with himself he had no idea what it meant to be a parent, let alone know how to handle any kind of relationship outside of what he was familiar with. What the hell did he know about this? He slams his fist into the desk as he breaths deeply. He calms slowly as he turns and heads for his bed, to damn tired for this. He removes his battle coat, and sighs deeply as he folds it nicely. This coat had been with him for far to long for him to take his anger out on it. He lays on his back as he rest his arm over his eyes. He slips under the single blanket he had as he just lays there, thinking. "I just....I couldn't understand it...how things got so bad, I mean hell I came...this close, to jumping into a flowing river...because it was slammed in how much I wasn't wanted..."

Her broken voice enters his mind. He curls up a bit as he frowns to himself. If no one had seen her. He jolts as he sits up, his hear pounding all of a sudden. How many of his fellow brother or sisters came to the same fate? All it took was for someone to look away, and they could pull the trigger. He sits there for a minute, as he thinks back. Danse, he was always far more understanding then most. "A chance..." It sounded so easy, but that was Danse, he was often optimistic, when he wanted to be. He could feel the darkness slowly creeping up on him. He shakes it off as he throws himself back into his bed and just forces himself to try and get some rest. If he ever came to the bridge, he was going to burn it before he ever crossed it. With that he was sound asleep after several hours of twisting and turning. Morning rolled in slowly, as well as a bit of light rain. Sara yawns as she sits in the small mess hall with some coffee. She was surprised to learn they even had any and she jumped at the chance. Sure it tasted burnt, but right now she didn't care. She was in her usual t-shirt, and pants. She was glancing at a turn piece of fabric with the Brotherhood symbol on it. Danse joins her and it takes her a minute to recognize him outside of his power armor. "Paladin, good morning...you look so different outside the power armor." Danse just gives her a warm smile, since they would be working together, he may as well join her now. "You do know I don't sleep in that...right?" She gives him a playful shrug. "I don't know, you seemed so attached to it..." She was teasing him of course, but he just seems to drop it. A part of him could see why maybe Arthur might have his eyes on her.

"What do you have there?" Sara blinks as she looks at the fabric. She smiles brightly as she turns to her left, holding it to her shoulder. "What do you think, to much?" He rises his brow, unsure if he understood. "I want it tattooed on my arm, I always wanting another one, might as well since my right arm has one." He takes a look, seeing the lovely blue flower drawn in her skin. He wasn't familiar with the flower, but he found it fit her. "Never liked the idea of marking my skin, but if that's what you want, there's nothing against it.." Sara just smiles more as she tucks the fabric away. Danse turns to see Maxson, not far, listening. "Wonder how long he's been standing there." "So what's the story behind this one?" Ingram already knew, as well as half the ship. "It's from a collection of books I read. It'll be hard to find it out here, but it still holds a place in my heart." Her smile holds, but it was far from happy. She lets out a low sigh at this. "The last one wasn't that great, but Ocarina of Time was like my first into the whole thing.." Water temple could still go suck a fat one though. "Long story short it's just about a young hero trying to save a princess, I have the weapon he uses on my back, that was the first tattoo I got. Took awhile to finish and hurt like hell, but...man it was so worth it having to watch poor Ty struggle when I went through our dare.." Her eyes were lit up now as she speaks. "Ty?" "Oh sorry, my friend...an old friend...he was killed years ago. He was...hell like my brother, you know?" Danse smiles at this, understanding her a bit more now. Maxson was gone, but Danse figured the Elder had heard enough. He wondered just how long before Arthur would break. Or worse, how long his stubbornness was going to hold out.
