Insane stories of a McDonald's employee
Just some stuff that's happened in the last few years I've been working. As well as other things
Into the Fallout.
Chapter 8:

They don't go far, much to her surprise he takes her to the old parking garage just outside the airport. It was easy to spot what was left of some of the planes after the bombs hit. No doubt the Brotherhood already made sure to take what they needed and just left the rest to rot. Most of the metal was already rusting beyond repair as she turns to the left over cars. The design wasn't to far off from what she was used to. Not that she really drove much. Not that she could tell them, cars hadn't worked in the last two hundred years. Up here, away from the chaos, she was free to take aim at some of the old rusted cars. At a safe distance of course. Maxson, true to his nature showed her how to hold onto it. He also warned her that laser riffles tend to have a bit more kick to them. She takes aim and fires, it wasn't to mad, but the car catches on fire fast and they quickly step back. It really was no different from firing a normal weapon, just that it made a different sound and it needed different ammo. Maxson watches her closely as she practices, getting the hang of it rather quickly. It was like every time they crossed paths, he just had more questions. As she lowers the weapon once it was empty, he looks up quickly. Before he could even stop himself he speaks up. "You always sleep with a teddy bear?" She lets out a small panicked yelp as she almost drops her gun. She catches it quickly as she turns to him, her eyes wide. "Wha..wait..you saw that?" "Saw it when I came to give you your weapon..." Her throat goes dry as she tries to swallow past the lump that was now there. "I..um.." She lets out a low sigh as she rubs the back of her head. "It..just helps me relax..." That and it was so uncomfortable trying to sleep and not have it feel she was crush her chest. Not that she would tell him that part.

"I know, it's....probably not..." She rolls her hand as she tries to find the right word. "Common I guess..." "But as a man you just wouldn't understand..." She tries to remain calm through all of this as he just ends up stepping just a bit closer. "Honestly, I couldn't really care less." She rises her brow at him. "Then why ask?" He seems to snap at this as she jumps back. She really had to stop sassing the man. "Um...sorry.." He lets out a hard breath at her. "I'm just making sure I don't have some borderline insane person on my ship." Her brows knit at this as she frowns. "Hey, I'm not that crazy. If I can survive six years of people being annoying, I can handle this." Hell she'd rather be here, then at her old job, hands down. "I could totally write a book on crazy, title it: People don't know how to brain, part one..." She holds out her hand in a dramatic fashion. "You'd...be really surprised what I had to put up with, just to make sure I was able to pay bills and you know, not starve..." He was quiet again, the only thing she could feel was a slight breeze that came from the ocean. Without thinking she picks up her right wrist and rubs the spot just above the wrist bone. "I still have a small scar from where I burned myself..." She could still make out the faint ring of burnt skin from when she got to close to the grill. Just as she looks up, he was right there, taking a look for himself. It was faded by now, but he still looks at it. "Err...it's old by now...trust me it wasn't the first time I hurt myself...somehow..." Getting burned was the most common. Mostly back when their only oven-mitt had a hole in it. That one hurt.

Once again, she had no idea what to make of this guy. He slowly seems to let her go as he glares at her once again. It seemed to be the only emotion he was used to. However, he just seems to relax after a minute as he places his hands behind his back. "Six years at any job is remarkable, I'm sure you enjoyed some part of it.." It takes her a minute to answer. "Huh...yeah, I mean, I did learn a lot, and it was one of the first jobs I ever had." Her eyes seem to light up as she lets out a low laugh. "There was this one time, we had a radio that would play country music. It wasn't that loud and it was mostly just background noise. Well anyways, I walk in, I don't remember what song was playing, but something didn't sound right." It was still hard not to laugh at the memory. "I'm not sure what happened, but it would play a song, then all of a sudden it would just fast foreword through it. Then it would go back to normal, then fast foreword again. Imagine that...for five hours...by the time two hours had past it was right back to the song that was playing when I got there and the only thought in my head was just...ohhh no....it was, annoying but hilarious at the same time..." She lets out a low groan as she leans her head back. "But man I got so sick of country music after awhile...then our radio broke, and it was just sweet bliss after that...it was just one of those moments were you just go quite, and just bask in it...no one missed it..." Maxson lets out a low sound. "Never had much of a taste for it myself. Mostly just stick to the classical when I work.." "Makes sense, it's suppose to be more relaxing."

She didn't mind it herself, though she would rather listen to a sound track from a game she liked. "Awww man..." She looks up a bit as something hits her. She was going to miss the release of the Walking Dead game, well the next chapter of it after Telltale's when bankrupt. "Just when it was getting really good to...." She kicks at a near by rock as she shrugs her shoulders. There wasn't much she could do about it. Maxson was giving her that, look again. The one where he was trying to figure her out. "Nothing, my taste in music has changed a bit as I got older, my mom was mostly country.." She holds her hand up, unsure what Grateful Dead was classified under. "But when I was about...oh hell eighteen?" That sounded about right. "My friend came to me, shoved something new into my hands. And I just...fell in love with it." What was Linkin Park, punk rock or just rock she couldn't remember. "It was such a shame to learn their lead singer had committed suicide, but their music was really good. I mean some of their newer stuff wasn't that great. But it wasn't really aimed for my generation, it was for a new one which made sense." But it had still left one hell of a impact on her. "Wouldn't be the first singer to do that though, but it's still tragic.." She seems to catch herself as she turns her eyes to him. "Err..sorry..." She was sure by now he was just taking a mental note every time she started doing this again. Maxson just shakes his head a bit. If he had to be honest it was rather nice to hear someone talk about something else besides work. Was that why he was out here now, just a small excuse to be outside?

He had to admit it was kind of a nice change. "Do you read?" "Do people blink?" Bad answer, but he smirks a bit. "Do you know where I came up with the name for our ship?" She blinks as she looks up. "The Prydwen, yeah it's the name of King Arthur's ship in the native Welsh literature..I read that in school, I don't think it was ever finished though..." She watching him as his eyes light up for just a split season, but he quickly shakes it off. "Not a lot of people can get their hands on such books." She bites her lip, having to remind herself where she was. "We got lucky I think, we had a good collection of books where I was...just be happy you didn't have to read the Oedipus...my God that was...eww..." She shudders it was just one of those stories that stick with you. "And do yourself a favor, don't ask..just....you're better off not knowing what that was about.." There just wasn't enough bleach in the world. "Guess it beats having to play out Romeo and Juliet...with a bunch of other fifteen year old's...." The maturity level was the lowest she had ever seen. She shakes her head after minute or two before she ends up sitting on one of the cars she's yet to blow up. "You're enjoying this aren't you?" Maxson turns as he slowly walks over to her. "Perhaps." She lets out a small laugh. "We'll I won't tell the boss if you won't." He turns to her slowly as she just smiles at him. He shakes his head again as he leans again the car she was currently on. He didn't really care they had stopped her training, he didn't mind a small break. They were so rare, but it wasn't like the ship was going to go up in flames any time soon without him.

"I can't imagine you get much time to yourself." She pulls her leg up to lean her head on her knee. He keeps his eyes forward on the Prydwen, watching it flouting there. "No, as Elder of the Brotherhood of Steal, the paper work just piles on..." She rises her brow at this. "Why not train someone to do it for you. Can't imagine it's that hard...just time consuming." Maxson lets out a low huff at this. "Much of what I do is on a need to know biases..." She lets out a low 'oh' at this. "Makes sense, can't imagine what would happen if it fell into the wrong hands." "Which is why it's so important we keep our eyes open on any technology that might bring harm to others." She tilts her head to the side as she looks at him. "I get it..." She blinks as she looks up, hearing a strange sound coming from the distance. She turns her head to see a large storm cloud heading their way. But the sickly green glow and the fact it was moving to fast told her this wasn't a normal storm. "Uhh, we should go inside, I think a rad-storm is moving in our direction." Maxson jumps to attention fast as he sees the storm. They wouldn't make it to the airport in time. "We need to move fast." She quickly follows after him as they quickly run down through the parking lot. She could already feel the electricity in the air, as she hears a crack of thunder roll through. Maxson growls at himself, how had he missed something like this? With little options open he finds an old door and kicks it in. She follows after him as they find an old stairwell that lead deeper into the parking lot. Most of it had been blocked by rubble, but they find a spot deep enough for the storm to not reach them.

It was so dark, but at least they were safe. Maxson pulls out something from his coat and the area lights up a bit. She turns to see he had a lighter. "You smoke?" "At times yes, not often....didn't realize this was under all the ruble.." He finds an old lantern and soon the area was under a reddish glow. "Most of these old car lots go under ground when people traveled. That way if someone was going to be gone longer then a day they'd have space above for people on the go..." He turns to her slowly as she feels her cheek growing warm. "Well..I would imagine..." She really hoped he bought it, but he lets it go. With not much else to do other then wait out the storm, they remain close to the door to listen to the passing storm. They were safe from the radiation, but they could still hear the storm. Even the hair on the back of her neck was standing up. "How long do you think it will last..?" Maxson just crosses his arms as he sits again a stone wall. "Might be awhile...I should had seen it sooner.." Was he blaming himself for this? "It's not your fault, it kind of came out of nowhere." Not even she had noticed until she heard something. She hears another crack of thunder, the storm was above them now. "Damn that moves fast..." It was mostly the same way in the game where they just seem to come out of nowhere at the worst times. She made sure to start packing a suit after awhile. Which brought her to something she was always curious about. "Mind if I ask you something?"

He gives her a small nod. "Do you have your own set of power armor?" He couldn't help but chuckle deeply. "Yes, it's not kept in the same bay as the others though..." Her brows rise at this. "Where is it then, do you have some personal storage spot for it?" He didn't seem sure on what to tell her. There was nothing different about it, just the slandered T-60f power armor. "Correct.." She leans against the wall as she pulls her legs close to her body. "I take it you don't get to use it much." There was a small pause. "Correct." He seems to shift in his spot a moment. Somewhere in his mind he was wondering why he was doing this. She was just another one of his Knights that worked for him. He shouldn't be getting to know her, or anyone for that matter on such a personal nature. Still, as he listens to the storm, maybe a small part of him, missed this. Just, having someone to reach out to that didn't care about his rank. Sure Danse was the exception, but only because they had known one another for so many years. Still even now when their paths cross, there was still that air of respect they had. But the Paladin knew his place so they didn't get to speak as much. He couldn't play favorites, people would talk. It was a small ship after all, not much was kept quiet for long. Hell how long would it be before they started talking about this? Well that's if anyone found out about it. He wondered if anyone had noticed by now he wasn't on the ship. "Knight." She blinks as she looks up at him. "Yes sir?" He was standing now as he turns to her. Of course, the weather had to be a jerk and lets out a loud crack of thunder just as he turns.

She doesn't hold back the small scream as she jumps and turns to the door. "Oh that's mean...what the hell..." Maxson covers his eyes with his hand as he lets out a low chuckle. Poor timing is all it was, but it was a little funny. He loses what he wanted to say and just drops it. "Once the storm passes I should send a team down here to see if we can't find anything useful." She nods as she heads over to what what was left of an old car. "It's such a shame these vehicles aren't in better shape. Must had been nice to just travel wherever you wanted when you felt like it." Maxson looks at the broken scrap metal of the car. He had only seen a few old pre-war pictures of what they looked like. For him, he had never been to sure what to think about them. All they were really good for now was spare parts. She was still doing her best to play out like she was born in this place. Not someone from a different timeline all together. "I think I prefer flying.." He kicks at the rusted frame as she looks at him. "You know how to pilot a Vertibird?" "Of course, just in case of emergencies." She got to see the inside of the cockpit herself, there were so many buttons. "Knowing my luck, I'd try to take off, and the whole thing just blows up. Hey what does this button do, boom!" She throws out her hands in a mock explosion. Then again she did that anyways is stores. If ever there was a 'try me' button, she was the first to push it.

"Still that's...awesome.." She blinks as she looks up. "The storms aren't going to do any harm to the circuit boards is it, I mean..the ones in the air?" He looked surprised by her question. "No...rad-storms pass rather quickly with little harm to our equipment...how did you think of that?" She gives him a sheepish smile. "I lost a computer of mine to a storm way back when. Oh I was so..crushed the memory card was trashed, there was no saving it..." She lets out a low sigh as she places her hand over her heart. "It was a piece of crap anyways, but it was mine..." She shrugs helplessly at this. Maxson just keeps his eyes on her as the sounds of the storm finally drift away. He knew it would still be awhile before it would be safe to go outside. "You know a lot about technology...don't you?" More then she was letting on at least as she feels herself blush. "Oh...yeah maybe, like I said before I was...am fascinated by it. I still enjoy taking things apart to see how things work." The nerd in her just lived for that sort of thing. "So if we ever brought in a synth, would you be willing to take it apart?" Her eyes go wide, she had not expected that, was he testing her? "Depends really, if it's one of those older models then sure, they'er just wires and bolts after all. But anything...new I don't think I'd be....comfortable with it since everyone says they look so....human." He seems pleased with this answer however as he walks up to her. "If we can locate one, taking one apart might give us a better idea how these...things work. But I agree, we won't deal with the Gen 3, not yet at least..." That made her shiver, but all she could really do was go along with it. "Well, I'll be more then happy to help.." He still seemed pleased as they finally make their way out of the parking lot.
