I hate hate hate the term "gamer girl".
It's just so unnecessary to have to label the gender of a gamer. It's unnecessary to label the gender of any hobbyist. Like, I knit but no one has ever called me a 'knitter girl'. I also sing, draw, sleep, breathe, eat, and go to college. I've never been called a 'singing girl', 'drawing girl,' 'sleeping girl, 'breathing girl,' 'eating girl,' or 'scholar girl'. BUT YET, the term 'gamer girl' is so widely accepted in our culture, it's just annoying.
I am a girl. I am a gamer.
I am NOT a 'gamer girl'.
I AM A GAMER.
Maybe if 'gamer boy' was a widely accepted term alongside 'gamer girl', then I wouldn't find it so offensive. It's just the fact that when anyone says the word 'gamer,' the first gender that comes to mind is the male gender. It's not fair. Women game too.
Women who use the term to define themselves (like "I'm a gamer gurl xoxo silly boys" wink are the part of reason the term 'gamer girl' has such a bad sound to it. I don't think we should re-write the definition of 'gamer girl', but instead we need to get rid of it completely.
Sorry, I just wanted to get all that junk off my chest. Just to restate my main point
I AM A GAMER NOT A GAMER GIRL
