Int. Airplane in the dead of night lights are dimmed MONA AND NOAH ARE SITTING AN AISLE APART, ENOUGH FOR WHISPERS TO BE HEARD
The majority of the passengers are asleep, with the exception of MONA, a 19-year old racially mixed girl playing on some handheld device. She is wearing trendy clothes that do not look like they go with her personality. NOAH, a male who appears in his early 20's and of European decent. He wears a white shirt with a brown faux-leather vest; he reads a book next to an older lady who is falling asleep as she knits.
MONA
(Muttering to her game)
Tap, tap, tap...tap,tap,tap-tap-tap... Stupid monkeys messing up my rhythm....
Losing the game, MONA looks around to keep from frustrating herself on the flight. She notices the boy the aisle away from her is still awake, too shy to speak she sighs and leans back in her chair. There is a catalog in her lap with the picture of a school, she fiddles with it.
NOAH
(Not looking off his book.)
So, where are you going miss?
MONA
She looks around at first to see who else is awake. Knowing that he couldn't be talking to the older lady, she turns to respond.
Oh me? Uhm.... school. College.
NOAH
You don't sound too happy about it.
MONA
I'm not... it's not where I want to go...
NOAH
So why go?
MONA
If I don't go somewhere I'll be a failure...
NOAH
Your parents’ right?
MONA looks away giving another sigh.
MONA
I always thought I would be brave enough to chase my dreams, have some fun, you know... I don't know.
Noah
I understand. People tell me studying Alchemy is a waste, that I will never accomplish anything with that, but screw them. I'll throw my life away if I want to!
MONA
I don't know of Alchemy... just the stuff I have seen in an anime. Sorry
MONA gives a chuckle looking at NOAH who smiles back.
Noah
You know more than most. Hey- before we arrive at your scholastic prison, wanna

MONA looks at him suspiciously.

(In an agitated tone)

(Looks around for flight attendants)

NOAH gets up from his seat, book still in his hand and points to the handicap bathroom. MONA looks at him for a split second and then follows.
MONA
It's not like I'm going to have any fun where I'm going...
INT. AIRPLANE BATHROOM
The lighting is dim in the bathroom, unlike the seats outside, turbulence can be felt here.
MONA
So now what?
NOAH
I've been studying this book, and I wanted to try it out.
MONA
And you thought here was a good idea?
NOAH
Anywhere is a good idea. I just wanted to do it here!
NOAH pricks MONA's finger before she could protest and flips to a page in his book.
MONA
What gives?! You have no manners!
NOAH shoves the book with a diagram of an alchemy circle in her unpricked hand.
NOAH
Copy this onto the walls.
MONA, no longer asking question copies the circle as NOAH begins to mutter something under his breath, the more they draw and mutter, the more turbulent the plane becomes. The lights start flickering on and off.
MONA
Noah! This is freaking me out I want to stop! (No response) Noah? (No response)NOAH!?
The lights black out and the bathroom shakes furiously. The lights come back on; there is more blood on the walls than MONA had drawn on. NOAH lies on the floor, his clothes blood soaked and an eerie smile on his face, on the bathroom door in front of him reads in blood. "Having fun yet?"
INT. Bedroom. 3 in the morning
MONA is in her bed her eyes wide open. There is a phone by her face; the voice on the other end is quiet too. The voice belongs to a boy named ANGEL. For now all the audience hears is his voice. She hears her step mother, ALANA's tearful screams as she bursts through the door. ALANA is a fair skinned lady with freckles and straight hair. Tears streaming down her face. She shakes the beam of MONA's loft bed.
ALANA
Mona! You have to get down here! Your father is trying to hit me you have to calm him down!
Angel
Mona, don't do it. You know what happens, she'll just get him angrier and he'll go
for you. Stay there.
There is a moment of silence before MONA's father; CALIB's voice can be heard in the living room.
CALIB
(Drunk)
Get out of my daughter's room! Come out here right now!
ALANA
Come down here now and fix this Mona! This is all your fault.
ANGEL
Mona? Listen to me, this isn't your fault. Stay in bed where it's safe. Mona? Mona!!
MONA closes her eyes and takes a deep breath before climbing down the stairs of her bed. She makes her way to the living room, radio playing in the background.
MONA
Dad, please stop... I want to go to bed...
CALIB
Why you standing up for her?! I'm trying to defend you from what she's trying to tell me about you and you're standing up for her?!
CALIB walks up to MONA and continues to yell.
CALIB
She's calling you a slut and you wanna stand up for her?!
MONA
Dad, I just want to go to sleep...
CALIB slaps MONA across the face sending her to the ground. While all this is happening ALANA gives a sigh of relief and goes to her room.
CALIB
Get up.
MONA gets up crying rubbing her cheek.
Calib
Who were you out with today?
MONA
Some friends...
CALIB grabs her by the hair and throws her again.
Calib
Alana said she say you with a boy, why are you lying to me?
MONA
(Through tears)
I wasn't he was walking me home.
CALIB picks her up by the arm roughly.
CALIB
Go to your room. You're not going to school tomorrow; you can clean the house instead. If you have time to be around boys you have time to clean.
MONA makes her way back to her bed, CALIB tripping her out of anger one last time before going to his bedroom.
ANGEL
MONA! What happened?!
MONA
I-I have to go. I won't see you at school tomorrow, I have to go...
Int. hospital room. Christmas Day. 11 PM
Nurses are patiently propping NICKI's legs up as she's about to give birth to her third daughter, NICHOLE. NICKI'S mother is there by her daughter's side, holding her hand. MONA is in the back of the room closest to the door, nonexistent to the others.
NURSE
All right Nicki just a few more pushes.
NICKI
(Screaming)
Get her out!!!!!
Nicki's Mother
I can see her head, you're almost there sweetie.
Nurse
One last push!
MONA's eyes widen as a baby's cries reaches her ears, it's hew baby sister, NICHOLE. The nurses clap and give NICKI her baby. NICKI's mother begins taking pictures. MONA walks past everyone and her eyes meet with her little sister's. They both smile.
EXT. School room building. Sunny Afternoon.
NICHOLE is in a tight circle with, SELENA, a superficial light skinned, skinny, dark haired girl. LOVELY, a tanned, short hair, somewhat taller the rest girl, and YOSHIKO, a Japanese-American girl, well immersed in the anime pop-culture. While the girls are talking, MONA can be seen behind Nichole's shoulder- spectating.
Selena
So my parents left to their trip earlier than expected and I managed to get this out for some school time fun.
SELENA pulls out a bottle of liquor from her messenger bag. All the girls except
NICHOLE giggle. Both MONA and NICHOLE'S eyes widen with a hint of worry.
Yoshiko
I've never had this stuff before; I usually go for more Jack Daniels-type drinks.
SELENA
Hey I just grabbed the first one I saw.

(Grinning)
Who's going first?
NICHOLE
Wait a minute guys! We'll get in trouble if we get caught!
MONA
(Her words do not reach the girls.)

SELENA, YOSHIKO, and LOVELY begin to pass the bottle; every time NICHOLE passes it the girls give her a glare. After a few passes the girls are noticeably buzzed. MRS.WILKINSON, walks pass the girls and notices something is wrong.

What is going on here?!
The girls throw the bottle to NICHOLE which she instinctively catches.
MONA
Drop the bottle Nic, Drop it!!
SELENA
Mrs.Wilkinson! Nichole brought a bottle from home and we told her we didn't want any part of it- she forced us to!
The two other girls drop to the floor crying.
LOVELY and YOSHIKO
Nic! Why are you so mean! We said it was a bad idea!!
NICHOLE

SELENA
Then she told us if we told anybody she would make our lives hell!

Nichole!! I never thought you to be! You are coming to the principal’s office immediately!

(Yelling)

NICHOLE looks to her friends to say something, but realizes they won't. MONA makes for NICHOLE's hand but cannot move. SELENA, LOVELY, and YOSHIKO snicker as the teacher take NICHOLE away.

Stop sticking up for your dumbass friends!!! They just use you!! Do something!!! DO SOMETHING!
Tears of frustration fall down MONA's face.
EXT. School Room Building twilight, THE SUN IS ALMOST GONE.
Finally able to move, MONA sits against the school building, defeat on her face. Footsteps can be heard and ANGEL, a male in his early 20's with short brown hair and glasses, walks and kneels before her.
ANGEL
Hey.
MONA
I can't protect her.
ANGEL
She can take her of herself.
MONA
You didn't see! They threw her under the bus! They-
ANGEL
They got caught. You're not the only one watching over her. I had ground duty today.
MONA looks up at him with a big smile.

Now let's get out of here.
