Dear Journal-
Today, Arroh and I were invited to join a pair of brothers- a tall, regal Prince by the name of Shadowknight, and his silent coutnerpart, Ben, in a mission down in the Old Aqueduct.
The Prince had silver hair, and the shadows seemed to wrap around his legs and to pull at his arms and clothes. Ben was bright and energy cackled in his hair, which stood tall and bright yellow. No, not blonde, not gold- YELLOW.
And I thought I looked weird, even if he sent off waves of obscene amounts of power. For some reason, I felt like shouting "KAMEHAMEHA" at the top of my lungs when I saw his hair.
Of course, Arroh, seemingly psychic in his ability to sense mischief or weirdness going on in my mind, shot me a look.
They explained to us that everyone else they had asked had been too scared to go- the Star Portal would send us somewhere extremely dangerous, and chances are, we would barely have enough protection with the rings (they appeared to keep us from dying, instead emitting a strange becon to any nearby aliens/animated/enemies to GO AWAY. Don't know why we don't just do that, but whatever).
We followed them over to the Star Portal, and HELL, that thing was giving off the WEIRDEST noises I had ever heard. In fact, I'm getting chills just thinking about it... It was the creepiest thing (up to that point) that I had ever seen.
The Prince told us to wait there while he sought out other fighters for this most auspicious of battles.
I waited, but after about 5 minutes- I was really, REALLY bored. I started running around in circles, Arroh watching in bemusement. His gaze would dart every now and then to the portal and he would tell me, "Be careful, Amallia. I don't trust that thing without Shadowknight around."
I should have listened.
Finally, out of sheer boredom, I cantered right onto the pad.
Purple light shone all around me, until I couldn't see anymore, and the sound- that horrible, droning sound- rose louder and louder in my ears.
Suddenly, it was gone, and replaced with quiet snarls, light clicking noises, and the feeling of being trapped.
The sky was gone. There was barely any light. Unnatural tunnels led deep into the walls surrounding me, and I stood frozen on the pad. My communicator crackled, followed by the following messages:
"Amallia! Goddammit, why did you step on the pad?!"
The Prince. He sounded both angry and worried.
"What do I do?!?!?!" I hissed into the comm. Silence.
"Don't leave the pad, whatever you do! I'll go talk to that GIB dude!!!"
Despite what was going on I couldn't help it.
"I knew that dude wasn't a Concerned Citizen."
"AMALLIA!" Arroh shouted in annoyance in the comm. "What did I tell you?! You never listen to me!"
"Arroh, did you know that the dude in black seriously IS A GIB age-"
"That's not important, Amallia. Godda- How can I protect you if you keep getting yourself into these situations?"
I blushed.
"i don't keep getting myself into these situations!" I shouted hotly. "I... I am not reckless! I do stuff like you tell me!"
"Tch, hardly. Wasn't it just yesterday that you walked right into the MIDDLE of all of those satellites?! I had to come running to save your four-legged a**-"
At that point the Prince interrupted, telling me that there was something I needed to step on at the bottom of the diagram on the pad. Carefully making sure so as not to step off the pad, I walked slowly over to the button.
At that moment, something bright and glittery caught my eye.
"What-" I looked up, and a tiny little bug thing stood in the entrance of one of the caves.
We stared at each other, and I put my hoof down carelessly.
The Prince tried to yell out to me to not step off the pad, but his voice was drowned out by the sudden sounds of clicking, screeching, and scraping. Rocks fell around me.
I shouted, jumping back onto the pad in an attempt to fix my mistake, but it was too late. Whatever survived here, I had woken it up, and it was coming.
I raced over to the button, no longer able to hear the sounds on the communicator. The sounds continued to escalate, and I felt something trickle from my ears- blood. Trying to cover my ears as best as posisble, I stomped on the button with all of my might.
Just as the purple light lit up, a giant white... scorpion, roach, spider, THING... crawled out form one of the tunnels.
I stared in fear as it stood tall over me, and then I was gone, transported back to Gaia, where the sky was blue and there were flowers, and the Animated ran free. Even THAT was preferrable.
But when I saw the absolutely livid face of Arroh, I burst into tears and collapsed onto my knees, and he flinched.
"THAT W-WAS HORRIBLE!!" I had sobbed. The Prince, standing a few feet away, looked uncomfortably at his brother, and Arroh came to sit awkwardly next to me, rubbing my back. I still remember what he said to me:
"That's... well, now you know. Curiosity, ah, killed the Centaur."
The Prince came to stand next to me.
'I'm assuming you dont want to join us anymore?" He said quietly, his voice barely betraying the annoyance he was feeling.
I didn't answer for a few minutes, but when I looked up, the Prince's eyebrows went up; my pink eyes must have been hard.
"on the contrary. I want to destroy those things before they get it in their heads to come here," I said in a dark voice, still quivering with the trace of tears.
the Prince grinned at me.
"Then let's go."
When we left that area, sorely defeated- but not without taking out at least 30 of the ********- Arroh had to drag me.
Now, all I can remember is the bunch of them hurrying to heal me, telling me I did well and all that s**t. I only remember not being able to hear clearly, seeing red, and feeling absolutely drained.
The visions of those red eyes, the sounds of clicking- all of that will haunt my nightmares for a very long time.
Not to mention... I probably didn't learn my lesson.
