A new year has started, and so has the new events. As you might remember, during the New Year's Eve Ball Ian was arrested and accused of the arson of the Gambino Mansion. Obviously we were not going to be left with the questions:
Is he innocent or guilty? If he did it, what is the proof? If he didn't, then who did it? Just an accident?
All the questions have no answer yet, but they might soon enough:
Ian's trial was announced one nice day of January, and a special forum for the event was opened:
http://www.gaiaonline.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=176
During 3 days, Cindy Donovinh our trusty reporter has showed the Gaian community what exactly happened during the trial.
http://www.gaiaonline.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=11840995 (Day 1) http://www.gaiaonline.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=11853056 (Day 2) http://www.gaiaonline.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=11863188 (Day 3)
I was planning at first to post all the dialogues, but as you can see is way too long and it would just stretch this entry vertically, making it difficult to read sweatdrop . Let's just hope those pages stay for a long time. I will just post Cindy's opening posts for each day.
Trial of Ian - Day 1
Cindy Donovinh here at the Durem Courthouse.
Today is the day. Ian, the shop owner of Barton Boutique is on trial for premeditated arson at the Gambino mansion on October 30th, 2005. It was quite shocking news when we all found out that Ian may have been responsible for this horrible act!
Today, the residing judge is none other than JudgeBot 502X. He has a long history of unbiased decision making most likey due to his extensive programming.
The prosecution is represented by ProsecutionBot 508Z. He has a longtime conviction rate of 97%. I hear he was programmed with human-like emotions giving himself insight into how humans will react to testimonies.
As for the defense, that role will be taken by DefenseBot 513A. This is DefenseBot 513A's first trial. In fact, DefenseBot 513A just rolled off of the assembly line this morning. It will be interesting to see how he fairs against the PBot 508Z.
The trial is just beginning, let's now go live to the opening statements!
The trial was in charge of a judge bot:
And there was also a prosecution bot:
And a defense bot:
One to proof Ian guilty and the other one to defend him.
As the trial went on, Gaians could start to take sides, to side with Ian or to be against him, by following the course of the trial or simply because they like Ian or hate him. xp
During the first day of the trial there wasn't much action nor interesting facts, besides, there was no evidence at all. But three witnesses were called:
Each of them made their declarations and answered the questions made by the bots, but like I said before is too long to post it here and it will just stretch the page. So feel free to use the link and read. Nothing really exciting happened. sad
Trial of Ian - Day 2
Cindy Donovinh here at the Durem Courthouse.
Yesterday, we saw some pretty damning testimony from the prosecution witnesses. But so far, none of that testimony showed any real evidence.
Defensebot513A seems definitely out of his league here, but will his adaptive programming step up to the plate in court today?
Let's find out! The proceedings are about to begin!
During the second day things started to heat up (Finally twisted ).
Our next witnesses were called:
The first one is Bucho, head of the Gambino mansion security, his purpose is to protect Gino at all costs. He is the first to show ''evidence'' against Ian:
A surveillance camera recorded Ian on the scene of the crime, is actually when he was looking inside to see if he could find Sasha and rescue her from the fire. The second one speaks for itself, Ian's fingerprint on what seems to be his hat (Then how come he still have a hat? xp ).
During the questioning, the defese bot accused Bucho for the missile that blew up the Gambino mansion back at the Halloween 2k4 bash to stop the zombie madness and also accused Bucho of not being worth the title of head of security since he failed to prevent disaster two years in a row! (I agree 3nodding ). Bucho went berserk and attacked the defense bot, the judge ordered Bucho out, who sworn he would return... eek
The second witness is Geebus, he accused Ian for assaulting him back at the New Year's Eve Ball after not letting Ian inside the mansion (I can see, poor guy...NOT!) During his interrogation, defense bot malfunctioned:
Shocking! Defensebot 513A has malfunctioned! The techs are currently working to fix the problem. The judge has relieved Geebus until then...
*UPDATE*
The techs have successfully rebooted DefenseBot 513A and he is working normally now.
I believe that is all for the prosecution witnesses. The defense will now start calling their witnesses.
Ok, moving on.
The third witness was Leon, not much to say here except that he favored Ian and believes he would never be capable of doing such crime (Maybe he likes him because of the deals they made at Ian's shop? xp )
Moira was the fourth witness, between all the dialogue she revealed that Ian is crazy about Sasha and that he doesn't have a clue when it comes to a woman. But still, Moira also supports Ian by saying he may be spastic sometimes, but he is ''non-aggro''.
Last but not least came Rufus, Ian't trusty cat. Rufus obviously supports his master, they have been together for a very long time. We learned that Rufus is part of a special kind of talking cats (That explains it, always wondered how he could talk xp ). Just like Moira he stated that Ian could be spastic but he would never hurt anyone. Is also weird that Rufus is a cat, but barks like a dog. xp
That ended the second day of the trial.
Trial of Ian - Day 3
Cindy Donovinh here live from the Durem Courthouse.
Yesterday we finally saw some forensic evidence placing the defendant at the crime scene! It seemed quite damaging to Ian's case. In retaliation, the inside word is that Ian himself will take the stand to clear his name... but we'll just have to see about that now won't we?
Let's go to the courtroom, the trial is about to continue!
For the last day of interrogations, two witnesses were called:
Is the key figures of this trial. blaugh
Gino was first called, between his declarations, Gino said that Ian helped him when he reappeared after the fall of the Gambino Tower (April Fools Day 2005), and that Ian has never threatened or tried to harm him before. Basically he is saying that Ian didn't started the fire as well. The prosecution bot tried to make Gino confess so Ian would look guilty, like Ian blamed Gino for his father's previous actions and such.
Last but not least, Ian, the accused one was called. Ian also has his own interesting facts such as that he runs Barton Boutique since he was a child. The critical question was made:
Ian, did you commit arson at the Gambino mansion on the night of October, 30?
His reply was obvious:
I did NOT, sir. I would never do such a thing! I am not a violent person and I would never harm a living thing.
When the prosecution bot started interrogating Ian we found out that he has a last name, but it was not never revealed, we also found out that Barton Boutique was originally called Gambino Boutique. As for the last part of the interrogation, the prosecution bot made question about Sasha and everything between her, Ian and Gino. Making it clear that Sasha didn't loved him and finally made Ian admit that the fact that a Gambino took her from him made him angry.
(F*** you prosecution bot stare )
Well, there you have it! Today is a close call, I have no idea who did better today. We'll just have to wait for the closing statements until we can get a better idea! And GAIA 9 Action News will be there with coverage. You can count on it! See you then! Cindy Donovinh, signing off!
The next day, the voting for Ian't fate began:
http://www.gaiaonline.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=11875264 (Voting thread)
The bots made their closing statements:
Male and female humanoids of the jury. It is quite apparent that the prosecution has no case here.
All of the evidence that has been recorded into the court record database has been circumstantial. The prosecution has a tape of the defendant at the crime scene, but nowhere in that tape does it show the defendant actually doing anything wrong.
The prosecution has a bottle of pills that has the defendant's fingerprint on it. This only shows that the defendant was there. And we know why he was there. He was there simply to save the woman he loves FROM the fire.
The prosecution claims that the defendant is an evil, deceiving humanoid. But all that I observe of the defendant shows that he is merely a humanoid searching for *clang clang* ... love.
The defendant was simply "in the wrong place at the wrong time" to be accused for this crime. We all know that Ian is not responsible for this act. Let's not prolong his suffering any further. Hasn't he been through enough?
Ladies and Gentlemen of the jury.
The defense would have you believe that the defendant, Ian, is a harmless individual. But we've shown you evidence that this is, in fact, not the case at all.
We had numerous witnesses, even witnesses called by the defense, admit that Ian was jealous of the Gambino family, especially with Gino Gambino.
We have witnesses testifying to Ian's violent nature. Ian ASSAULTED a man who was just doing his job.
We have irrefuteable evidence of Ian fleeing the scene of the crime and evidence that Ian was where he wasn't supposed to be that night.
We have evidence that Ian had forethought that something bad was going to happen at the mansion that night, a warning to the woman he loves.
Ian HIMSELF admitted that he would do ANYTHING for this "love." I call it jealousy. And we've seen it time and time again. Jealousy breeds acts of violence. The answer is clear. Do NOT let Ian get away with this heinous crime. You must convict Ian.
And with that the voting began and continued for the next five days, after that the poll was closed, but the forum remained opened.
The final results were:
By unanimous decision, Ian is innocent! biggrin
I voted innocent because personally no evidence showed actually confirmed that Ian did it, and what if he is angry about the Sasha/Gino thing? Is doesn't mean he is going to kill thousands of Gaians inside a mansion just for two people. xp
During the whole event people expressed their opinions about the case, others even had their suspiscions about who could have really done it, even I have my suspiscions. xd
But there was a deliberation period that kept us waiting in suspense the conclusion of this crazy trial, and unfortunately January ended without an update. We will have to find out next month hopefully.
Will Ian be freed? To be continued...
As for the rest of the month's interesting facts:
- Item update for the stores. biggrin - Gaia credits feature was oficially released. - Gift wrapping is back. - Gift giving feature released. - January donation items were released, the choice between the angelic parasol and the sword of Aegis (Finally, swords so people can shut up about them xp ) - New Fishing/Casino reporting system added (No more annoying n00bs ruining your fun biggrin ).
That's all for this month, the conclusion of the trial will come in the next entry.
