The most recent incident at my school I can recall is seeing a middle-schooler reading a paperback novel. I sat across from her, waiting for my ride, and when she took the book off her lap I saw it was Twilight. Instinctively, I told her how it ended and that it wasn't worth reading. She tried to ignore me, but I'm sure she heard me, and knew what I was talking about. My ride came immediately afterwards, and my sister told her, "That's just her opinion."
And it got me thinking... if you were a child and heard an older person, (almost an adult) tell you their enlightened opinion, wouldn't you be apt to listen and share the same opinion? So maybe, when you tell a little girl that something is bad, when you are clearly smarter than she, she will believe it's bad. When that girl finishes the book, do you think she will have liked it, or have been disappointed? Will she become skeptical and see the truth? Hopefully. There's still hope in the world.
