If there is one thing I am tired of hearing about this Christmas season it is the argument about whether or not someone should say "Merry Christmas!" or "Happy Holidays!" Honestly, is there anything more stupid to argue about in the world?
I am sick of hearing people rant on and on and on about how they get upset when they hear employees at Target or Wal-Mart or wherever else say "Happy Holidays!" instead of "Merry Christmas!" I really don't think its THAT big of a deal. Yeah I celebrate Christmas and I know and firmly believe in its true meaning and I am adamant about keeping Christ in Christmas instead of turning it into a stressful meaningless pile of materialism. But I also know that other people will actually be offended if someone said "Merry Christmas" not because they hate the holiday itself but because they actually celebrate something else.
Not sure how many people on here celebrate Hanukah or Kwanza (does anyone even celebrate Kwanza? If you do tell me!) But I guess if I were Jewish...or African..or something I might be a little offended if all anyone said to me was "Merry Christmas" I would want my Holiday to be recognized by the general public too.
And really, I think it’s the meaning of what someone says that matters. No matter how you give seasons greetings aren't we all just trying to wish someone happiness? Aren't we all just trying to love one another by telling them to have a great holiday? People I know that celebrate Christmas get so mad when someone tells them to have a happy holiday and they are so quick to almost rudely tell them to have a merry Christmas. Nobody is stripping away our right to say "Merry Christmas" so why be rude about saying it? And also, why be shy about saying it?
No matter why we celebrate Christmas or anything else and no matter what any of us believe in I think we can all agree that one universal meaning of each holiday is to spread love and cheer not just to our friends and families but also to people we don't even know. Give a gift to a stranger. Volunteer at a homeless shelter. Go caroling. Bake someone a pie. Give out free hugs. These are all things we can do to spread love and joy to one another in the next few weeks. This is how peace and unity is spread. Not just by holiday greetings but by actions. And we all should continue to do these things even after the holidays have passed!
So anyways... Happy Holidays! Happy Hanukah Happy Kwanza! (I'm serious. If anyone celebrates this I wanna know!) And MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!! heart heart heart heart
