as people have been suspecting for years and years, It's the end of the world, or that's what they say
It appeared after the eclipse, no noise, no movement, nothing, just there. People would look up in the sky and scream with shock, or just stay silent and stare. It was large, that was for sure, large enough to see it in space bigger than the sun. It looked like ornate disks of shrinking sizes in each other, or just a large disk with ring holes in it. Around it there were no stars, just emptiness. In it's middle, there was a ring of energy that was, if you look long enough, slowly growing. As some people put it, 'it's a giant gun.'
This new 'discovery put the world into shock and awe, humanity had never seen something so massive. Quickly scientists all over the globe tried to figure out what this was, and spacecraft were sent out to find out what this was and what it was doing.
After agonizingly long months the data came out, this 'ring' was indeed something of power, how it was formed, no one knew, but one thing that put hope out of people completely was what was to happen. The satellites had been monitering it's progress and two things were found. It's energy, that had not been identified by scientists, was dangerous and charging. The second thing...it was aimed at the earth.
Quickly, order fell apart, something that man could not overcome was upon it. the worlds leaders held an emergency meeting as quickly as they could, ordering the scientists to find out how long it would be before it fired, and discussed. When all talking was done, the obvious conclusion was reached, throw everything we had at this thing. After much deliberation, this plan was accepted.
The time it had until firing turned out to actually just be 3 months, the gathering and firing of all the missles, nukes, and other massive bombs humanity has would take 1, predicted hit 1 and a half. Meanwhile, people began to fight everywhere over everything, valuables, water, food, anything anybody could hoard and enjoy before death. And something that wouldn't make much of a difference at the time was happening, people were vanishing mysteriously and sightings of mythical creatures escalated.
After the first month, the fighting lowered in wait to see if our weapons did anything against this thing, but the vanishings only increased. When the hit happened, it wasn't as expected, the missiles went on course, all for one spot, attempting to break through this thing and destroy it. When the missiles got to a certain point though, they were pulled off course and were sucked into the energy, which, to much disbelief, grew.
10 minutes after this, something came hurtling out of the ring. It looked like a seed and was impacting with the earth in a matter of minutes. Now the ring let out a certain glow that was puzzling to all. out of the seed, which was located in the middle of Australia, in front of several hundred thousand people, came demons, swarms of them.
These gruesome beasts took no hesitation to look at this world, and quickly went to work. The demons would slaughter any living thing they could get their claws on. Australia was quickly cut off, and everyone knew this was just another problem adding to humanities fall.
People found out soon after the demons appeared, what was going on right in front of them. The vanishings were from all races from fiction an myth. vampires, werewolves, and other creatures of the sort, were disappearing, and taking people with them.
two more things that were found was that the process of the ring's energy gathering was sped up by these bombs to a week. This sent everything into mass hysteria, and the killing was to begin again. The other thing was that this glow was changing people, people who were exposed to it for too long would change into anything, even demons, and would disappear the next day. Some people viewed this as a curse, others, gods gift, the ones were being chosen to be taken. They were also being abducted by the other races.
2 days before the firing, the population was down to 1 billion and thinning yet. Half the world was overrun by demons, and the other half was 'safe' A belief was spreading, and it was making a calm. People were realizing that there was no solution to this problem, and that it was something to accept. Not all chose to believe this, and there was still violence, but many turned to this.
The day that the ring fired, most had either fled to the safest place they could or were with all the 'believers' at a large gathering, where bands and other people were performing for the last time. In the final moments, the earth seemed to be silent, then the ring let the energy loose, and it first punctured the earth in a small amount, going straight through, and then the rest of the energy caught up. The earth was obliterated in a mere second, but even after it was gone, the energy continued, taking out some stars as well before lessening, and finally stopping.
In this new dimension, where many had fled to, the land lay ahead, unspoiled, and all races roamed free, humanity was minor and treated in most places as such. Now new colonies were being established, while another ring hung in the air. This ring however wasn't to fire for another billion years...
