i remember the time we sat by the shore,
the sand beneath or feet made the soles sore.
i ran my warm fingers through your silky hair,
although it was hot, we just didn't care.
you turned to me, your eyes matched the sea,
you promised that you would forever love me.

i awoke from the sun beaming into my eyes,
i put on my coat, got my hat and the ring, ran outside.
i drove sixteen miles to your house by the shore.
i knew i just could not wait anymore.
i grabbed the key from under your mat,
walked inside, tossing my hat.
i ran to your room and opened the door,
you lay on the bed, there was blood to the floor.
i cried your name, for the hole in your chest.
i held your bloody hand, as red as the rest.
you whispered to me, "though the time isn't best,
just for the record, i would've said 'yes'."
your tears did not match your beautiful smile.
i sat with you for a very short while.
but your smile faded, back your eyes drawn.
and i held your limp arm;
my maria was gone.
