“Get out of my room!” Jules shrieked as she reached over towards her dresser to find something to throw at Phoenix, but Phoenix jumped up and grabbed her wrist.
“Wait!” Phoenix exclaimed, his eyes wide in surprise that Jules would even THINK to throw something at him, “I just want to talk.”
Slowly, Jules lowered her hand and let Phoenix lead her over to the bed, where they sat facing each other.
“I just wanted to apologize for not being there to help you this afternoon. I’d forgotten how easily you get yourself into trouble,” he gave her a grin and Jules rolled her eyes.
Phoenix cleared his throat.
“Um…so…I also heard that you’re a vampire’s lover now…” he continued quietly.
Jules’ nose wrinkled in disgust.
“News travels fast around school, doesn’t it?” she asked with a sigh, “Unfortunately, I got paired with Mr. Self Centered.”
“You didn’t say that to his face, did you?” Phoenix asked in surprise.
“Hmph. Of course I did,” Jules replied in a matter-of-fact tone, her arms crossed over her chest.
Phoenix stared at Jules in shock.
“Jules, do you even know who that vampire is?” he asked.
“Like I care,” Jules grumbled.
Phoenix smacked his forehead.
“Jules! That’s Richard Alucard! He’s practically a prince!”
“What?!?!” Jules exclaimed.
So that’s why the other vampires were afraid of him, she thought.
“Well, he’s still a jerk,” Jules continued.
“Yeah, but he saved you life, Julesie,” Phoenix pointed out, “He certainly didn’t have to do that. He hates humans.”
“Yeah, he told me,” Jules shook her head in disbelief and winced, touching the back of her head gingerly.
“What’s wrong?” Phoenix asked worriedly as he leaned forward.
“Nothing, it’s just a small headache,” Jules waved Phoenix away, but Phoenix wasn’t buying it.
Reaching out, he grabbed Jules by the elbow and pulled her into him.
“Phoenix?!?! What are you doing?” Jules asked, confused and a little embarrassed.
“He smacked your head pretty hard against the lockers, didn’t he?” Phoenix asked as he gently touched the back of her head, “You’ve got yourself a nice goose egg. You’re lucky your head didn’t hit a lock…”
Releasing Jules, Phoenix pushed the sleeves of Jules’ school jacket up to reveal bruises around her wrists.
“You need to put ice on it to reduce swelling,” Phoenix told her.
“That’d be easier to do if you weren’t holding onto my hands,” Jules replied.
Phoenix smiled, “Would you like me to kiss your boo-boos to make them feel better?” he tease4d.
“Ugh. Knock it off, Phoenix,” Jules pulled her hands away and shoved him.
“Jas, can you bring up some ice?” she called.
