Oh, STFU.

After spending a few days in the Lifestyles Forum, all I can say is, I wish some people would just shut the ******** up about Asians not being able to speak English. Also the people who complain about Asians (or any other race) who can't speak English properly.

First off - it's a second language. Of COURSE there are times when people mess up. Who doesn't?

Second - whether it's Japanese or Chinese or whatever, the grammar, the word placements, the verbs, they're COMPLETELY different. Like, if you translate the Chinese sentence "My English isn't really good" directly into English, it could be just "My English not so good." It makes sense in Chinese, therefore, some people might think it's fine in English.

Third - we're not all millionaires. Some of my old classmates in Taiwan have never been on a plane before. They've never experienced the Western world; they don't know how to use it like people who uses English as their mother tongues do. When you learn a language, you know what's the easiest way to do so? Move to the country. Mong Zhi, a follower of Confucious, said it himself: there's no point in staying in China if you're going to learn English. Same as there's no point in learning Chinese if you're staying in France.

... actually, his examples were parts of China then, but whatever. Same concept.

Lastly - what's so funny about new language learners? Let's see some people try Mandarin Chinese. It's the hardest language so far to learn. Is it annoying, seeing someone struggle with it? Maybe. I don't know though, maybe it just shows you don't have the patience, and/or you're too immature.

Show some decorum, for God's sake. neutral

Take it from someone who's currently in a foreign country trying to improve a new third language - it's not easy. I have to ask the French to slow down for me to understand. I try my best to speak it. I want to master the language, and to do that, I want people to help me, not make fun of me.

Traditional Chinese is the hardest language to come across. Let's see you try learning that.

According to David Sedaris French is an extra pain in the a** because of the seemingly random masculine/feminine status assigned to inanimate objects and etc. I don't speak French myself, but I'm curious: are you finding that aspect difficult as well?

P.S. I'm the girl who PM'd you the other day, though I'm not sure if you got it; your journal entries are showing up on my profile page (but only when I view it), for some reason. I thought I'd give you a heads-up that Gaia Support (finally) got back to me, and they're "working on the problem." Have you had your journal show up on anyone else's profile, that you know of? o.O

    I totally agree. T.T
People are probably just too inpatient.
    For example- I take dance.
I've mastered probably a lot of moves, and other people haven't.
I mean, sometimes I can say "Oh come on already! Its not that hard."
But thats just because I know how to do it, and its new to the other people.
    But I totally agree 100%.
Give people learning something new a break. neutral
    It takes time.
Also, I'm just starting to learn French.
Its pretty fun. But a SECOND language.
It will take time to master.
    Gosh. =/

lol, I feel for you, hun. It's so stupid. DX I'm takeing Spanish this year, wish me luck please! D :

I'm not the best at learning new languages but I'd rather know french before Spanish anyday. D ; Theres something about French, Japanese, Chinese, and Finnish that just makes me think "Omg, I want to learn that ôOô". I don't listen to French, Spanish, or Finnish music however. I am a Jpop Jrock fan though.

I totally agree with you on everything.

Chinese is quite hard to understand. I can't make heads or tails of it. I work in Atlantic City and several of the ladies I work with speak either Chinese or Mandarin. For some reason they get peeved if you call them Chinese when they speak Mandarin. Anyways, I get along fine with them even though I only speak English. They don't always understand what I'm saying but I can somehow understand what they are saying. They always come to me when they need help speaking to someone who speaks English and can't understand them. I don't mind helping them as I find most Chinese and Asians to be quite nice and good people.
In the casinos we tend to understand and try our best to honor their way of thinking and living. Like whenever a major holiday occurs for Chinese we celebrate just as we would ours. We go all out for the Chinese New Year. I love celebrating it.
The show that they have to celebrate it is jaw dropingly beautiful.

I guess because I'm an English, Italian, German, Irish and Native American mix it helps me to understand people who speak different languages. ^_^ Oddly enough most people think I look Spanish and thus should speak it. I do somehow know a little Spanish and can understand it when someone speaks it slowly. Even though I only speak English I have a rather funny accent and sometimes other English speaking people can't understand me. Lol.

If you really try, it's not that hard to learn a new language. Or at least grasp it enough to understand someone. I frankly could careless if they do or don't speak English as they are free to speak or do what ever the hell they want in America. Most other countries are becoming that way to. People can speak how ever they want and whatever they want. Denying them that freedom is not right and in America is unconstitutional.

And not only that but put yourselves in their place. Would you like it if someone went around making fun of how you spoke? I think not. So please don't say someone's English sucks as it is most likely their second language and not easy for them to understand. If you went to China and tried to speak Chinese I doubt they would laugh at you and say your Chinese sucks. So be nice and consider how hard they are trying to speak a language that is not theirs.

I'm no asian, but I'm german, but I know how that feels as well. Even if you speak properly, if someone doesn't understand you (and even if it's HIS own fault, that he doesn't understand what you're talking about), some make fun of you.

But I don't really care about it. I think for myself first of all, they can try learning our languages and see, if they do better. wink
