“How many students go here?” Jules asked as she stared at the cafeteria.
You could stick my whole house in here five times and STILL have room, she thought in disbelief.
“A lot,” Phoenix said with a wink.
Jules rolled her eyes, “Thank you, Captain Obvious,” she said, her voice laced with sarcasm.
Phoenix gave her a great big smile.
“You’re welcome!” he answered, clearly proud of himself.
“Where do you usually sit for lunch?” Jules asked, trying to change the subject.
“This way,” Phoenix grabbed Jules by the wrist and dragged her into the heart of the cafeteria.
Jules noticed that there was a definite seating order; it was just like cliques only she couldn’t figure it out.
Phoenix approached a table full of boys and a scattered few girls. Everyone looked up and greeted Phoenix warmly.
“Shadows! Hey!”
“What’s up, bro?”
“Haven’t seen you all day, Phoenix.”
One of the boys, a spiky brown-haired lad, caught sight of Jules.
“Hey, Nix, who’s the babe?” he nodded in Jules’ direction, “New girlfriend?”
Phoenix put his arm around Jules’ shoulder and pulled her closer.
“Everyone, this is Juliet Constantine. She’s a new student.”
Jules lifted Phoenix’s arm off of her.
“We’re childhood friends,” she explained.
“So you’re single?” the brunette asked.
Jules blushed but Phoenix just laughed.
“Wait,” a girl with light brown hair spoke up, “Constantine? Like James Constantine? The Hunter?”
No sooner did the girl finish her sentence that silence fell upon the entire cafeteria.
