My rant for the day…
Subject: TAKS
Reason: who cares?

TAKS: a series of “fundamental” comprehension, mathematics, social studies, and science tests built to test “our” knowledge of the given section. But are they really testing OUR knowledge?
No, they`re not.

I`ve had this conversation with my mum, and father (who lives in Arizona, and the importance of his whereabouts will come into play later) who both think TAKS is a huge load of… well, you know. The conversation usually comes up when I whine about teachers and how they won`t shut the [insert profanity here] up about TAKS, TAKS, TAKS!!! Everything they teach us is “This is going to be on TAKS, you need to learn this for TAKS, you won`t pass TAKS if you don`t know this!”
Shut the hell up already.

TAKS is a muse, a prompt if you will, for the teachers, it`s something that the TEACHERS teach us in order to keep their job, it`s suppose to be testing the teacher`s knowledge…not ours. If we fail TAKS, they don`t earn money… ahh… that sweet dingy green coloured pieces of paper. That`s all TAKS is and money maker for teachers and the pride in knowing they can teach, which they should be able to do without TAKS.
It`s not helping us toward getting a job in… say… FLORIDA, why? BECAUSE IT`S ONLY FOR TEXAS!
It does NOT say in any job description that “THOU MUST PASS TAKS FOR THY JOB OF THINE CHOICE.”
Now, for my father`s importance…
As you very well read, he lives in Arizona, yes, we have state regulated tests there, they`re called AIMS; Arizona`s Instruments to Measure Standards. It was made for US.
The teachers never mentioned AIMS (unless they whined about the 2 minute long speech they had to give us before we began the test that made them sound like a broken record.) They taught us about other things, not just about AIMS. They taught us everything about everywhere about everyone, not just about “John C. Calhoun, remember, YOU`RE GOING TO HAVE TO KNOW THAT FOR THE TAKS.”

If you ask me, I want to know about other things, not just about what the hell is going to be on the TAKS, and if you ask me, I don`t give a s**t about the TAKS. So, why don`t the teachers take this stupid test, so they actually KNOW what the teachers are teaching us.
TAKS is just a guide for the state to see how well the teachers are doing.
And for the record, I`ve learned a lot less in Texas than I have in Arizona.

Why can`t all states be like that?
Oh, yeah, because this is Texas, and they can become their own country if they want to.
******** Texas.
And I don`t care if I get in trouble for saying that because my teacher has this program that enables her to look at my computer from hers.
She can talk to my mother, who has the same views as me, and she can have a hell of a lot more cussing from her if she wants to.

Thank the stars for parents like mine.
