September was full of surprises and rants. The site has been going through a lot of changes, and we all know that people don't welcome change with open arms most of the time.
But before getting to that, the Summer Festival finally came to an end. The final results were:
First place: Durem Second place: Aekea Third place: Barton Fourth place: Isle de Gambino
blaugh W00t! Fourth place and proud of it! blaugh
The champions received a golden trophy while the rest of us got a silver trophy, so much for a special item for the big winners. Oh well, they can still remember how hard they kicked our asses, there is no better prize than that. xp
Now about September, like I said before it was full of changes that brought joy and rage at the same time (like every new implementation xp ):
The biggest change would have to be the Marketplace 3.0 implementation. The simple fact that it charges 2% of the gold we make for each sold item was enough to enrage the population in general. Topics were made non-stop insulting the staff and cursing the fee, a lot of users threatened to stop donating, boycott the new marketplace by not using it and even leaving Gaia (no surprise there). It might have been confusing at first, but just like every new feature once you use it for long enough you get used to it and may end up liking it. I really like this new marketplace since it makes it's navigation much easier, and also has made me a decent fortune. wink The rage died out but there is still a few users who are determined to fight until it is taken down. The staff already said the fee will be removed if it doesn't meet the expectations, which is to slow the inflation down. A lot of vendors have inflated the items because of the fear of the new fee, is true that they earn more than they would if they would have left the prices unchanged, but it also means more gold is removed so it also helps control inflation a bit. We can't expect the positive changes to show up right away, is a process that takes time and that will probably show it's good side on the long run. Still, I can say this a million times and the haters will always remain haters. xp
Another change that brought up some steam was the changes done to the forums. As always people get scared of change and complain, but I find it very useful. The new forum pulse they added helps me keep up with the topics that had the latest posts and it keeps updating when more posts are made, we can even close it if it bothers us. I agree that there is still a lot of white, but this is only the first stage, more changes will be made and that will hopefully mean less white on the pages. 3nodding The changes also included a 50,000 character limit to the individual posts. Guess that helps against the long stretching posts that some n00bs make, too bad that affects serious roleplayers and probably my journal entries. gonk
*Prays it all fits*
Characters with spaces: 2,946 according to Microsoft Word. I should be fine.....
Ok, moving on. The storyline was once again updated and it couldn't get any better. Last time we found out a little about Ian's past, specially that his real name is Damian and that he has a brother named Louie, but they were separated when they were young. Gino and Liam in the meantime were visited by the VH sisters who seemed very interested in them. Now the story continues:
I must admit that I was very confused after reading the update, but now I think I know what's going on. For the looks of it the Gambinos and the Von Helsons are like one big family. Vladimir seemed to be married to Rosalie (The women on the portrait at the end, that's her name according to post made by Lanzer. Would it have hurt that much to mention it ON the manga? xp ) and together they had Ian, Louie and the VH sisters. However since Gino was there in the portrait with her and Johnny I assume she was originally married to him (Johnny), then she married Vladimir. The vampire issue certainly caused her inminent death (Ian's flashback on the previous update) and that's were Ian and Louie got separated. To put it short:
Johnny G + Rosalie = Gino Gambino
Vladimir + Rosalie = Ian + Louie + VH sisters (No doubt Rosalie found Vladimir more appealing xd )
All this + incidents + separations = One big family
Gino, Ian, Louie and the VH sisters must be stepbrothers surely, maybe that has to do with the reason why the VH sisters kidnapped him. Still why the hell would they want Liam? Because they find him sexy? sweatdrop I still don't see what's Zhivago on the family, maybe he is just Vladimir's loyal servant.
Well, that pretty sums up the most important updates on Gaia for this month. Looks like we will have a hell of an event coming for Halloween. twisted The developers better don't mess this one up, Easter 2k7 was bad enough. xp
The September 2007 items were the choice between the Superior Form and the Gift of the Gods. Two kick a** items loved by everyone, for real I haven't seen anyone make hate comments about these items and I better don't see any. evil
After months of waiting, a new Gaia comic eek :
Ok, October with it's Halloween and my 4th Gaiaversary:
twisted HERE I COME! twisted
