The Black Fox took a beating that night. Physically, mentally, and emotionally. The ship, one of four identical ships under the command of Commander Wolf Fang, leader of the Black Canines, was whipped by stinging wind and terrible rain on there way back after lifting treasure from merchant sailors.
The Captain of the Black Fox, a woman by the name of Zara Smith, held on to the wheel of the boat, trying to keep it from flipping over. She was a normal sized women with long black hair normally pulled back and braided but that night, her hair was free to dance in the harsh storm. Her loyal first mate, and older brother Aaron, kept the crew in line, storms and disasters were times when crew members with a grunge wanted to mutiny. Those that didn't pull there own were left to fend for there own. There lift lines would not be secured.
And behind the captain stood her second mate and navigator, Brandon Weathers, looming over her as she helped steady the boat and keep it on some kind of track.
The sea howled and screamed like a child who didn't want to bathe. It sent waves and waves onto the boat, forcing to boat to tilt dangerously to the side and sending the entire crew against its railing. Weathers held on to the Zara, he large back pressing against to railing.
The sound of cracking wood made it to Weathers' keen ears and he immediately push his captain onto the brother who was holding on to rope from the mast. The wood gave in and Weathers along with ten other member of the crew fell into the ocean just as the ship turned itself right.
The entire event took less than twenty seconds, but the look on her crew's face as well as her beloved seemed to last forever as the memory would never leave her mind.
Zara leaned on the newly repaired railing as she watched the ocean and a harbor come into view. She and her brother knew that they'd have to find a temporary replacement for Weathers. Neither of them were as knowledgeable of the ocean and its ways as he was. They had so much history together. They were kids when they decided that they would live the lives as pirates. They even spent time with the fisherman just to learn about the sea. Brandon being the only one to pay attention when it came to learning the stars.
She let out a soft sigh, thinking about having to replace him. They'd never find another like him and it hurt in her heart to have someone take his place. Her brother watched from the wheel, seeing how depressed his sister was. He'd taken over command of the boat while she was in morning, just until she felt better.
They used the cover of night to dock in the harbor where they would meet an old friend of the Canines. They needed him so that they'd find a good group of people to be part of the crew.
