Come again, please?
I can never help but notice how some characters one comes across in RP are just a little...too good to be true. Sometimes more than a little. And hell, I've been up all night and have nothing better to do, so..away I go with ranting.

One of the things that really bothers me are the crazy hybrids. I don't know if it's out of a want to be unique, or to justify a certain appearance and/or powers, or to make it 'interesting,' or what it is, but WHOA. Are vampiric/demonic/draconic/elven werecatfish REALLY necessary? Ever heard of overkill? Family trees like that make my brain hurt.
[Or, in the case of something pureblooded, it's one of the last (if not THE last of its kind).]

And powers, holy crap @.@. Here, let me make a wild guess as to the above vampiric/demonic/draconic/elven werecatfish's powers are. Strength of ten or more men? Check. So fast you can't even see it move, let alone hope to save yourself? Check. Miraculous rate of physical healing? Check. Immune to hostile magic? Check. Astounding powers of intellect? Check. Internal lie-detector that would work on the most skilled of con artists? Check. Sixth sense that warns of all dangerous people, places, and situations? Check.
Let's see, what am I forgetting? Oh, right. Shapeshifting, flight, inexhaustible energy, irresistible powers of seduction, magic of one sort or another (better yet, several!), 'daywalking' even though it's a vampire...probably another half dozen or more things could be added to that list.
(This is not to say there's something wrong with daywalkers. But give me SOME weakness, please?)
Oh! Don't forget the remarkable fighting prowess, including the ability to use any weapon ever made (or not made, as it were). And if they don't have a specific power, well that's all right! Here we have this bag full of handy items from magically-inclined friends, that will take care of all your magical needs for you!

Then there is the obligatory traumatic, hidden past. Tragic losses, dead lovers, shameful secrets, betrayal every time you turn around. If it could go wrong, it has. If it hasn't gone wrong YET, things are sure to go south soon, just you wait and see!

And best of all? Our vampiric/demonic/draconic/elven werecatfish only LOOKS like its 20 years old! Not bad, for something that's been around for a few millennia!

    Amen to that

Even though I own a few pets described, I can't help but agree with you. I don't think mine are to overkill, even my characters train, get hurt, and well, loose.

    May reality live on! :O

A second Amen, from the fox section.

I agree wholeheartedly. D: Although even I am sometimes guilty of making 'perfect' characters, I still try my hardest to give every one of them weaknesses and faults. I do not believe there has ever been an RPer that hasn't made some sort of perfect character, but the good ones realize they've done it and fix it. heart
